We are going to install Portainer then Nginx Proxy Manager. In order to do that, we will need a Debian server with Docker installed. So, let's get going.
Here are the detailed instructions, links, and linux commands:
teksyndicate.com/install-dock...
I'll post a few here to get you started (but seriously, click the link above).
First, do an update:
sudo apt update
sudo: apt: command not found
Then install Docker CE dependencies:
apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl gnupg2 software-properties-common
This is stupid... YT won't let me add angled brackets... so, just go read this on the website:
teksyndicate.com/install-dock...

This channel is probably my biggest influence for me getting into tech. Been watching since the TigerDirect days.
tell it on the mountain! lol... cheers! Hope this video gives you some ideas.
@@teksyndicate I still miss The Tek. I don't miss some of the characters that were on the show over time, but I absolutely loved the original editions.
So glad to see you’re still kicking!
I started doing the homelab thing about a year ago and fell in love with unraid
Helped a friend with containers last weekend. Gonna send him this.
Thanks for the vid! super informative. I've been thinking about getting a server going for a while
Logan! I used to watch your stuff back in 2012. I remember telling my gf's dad at the time how much Apple sucked, and then blowing his mind with my knowledge from your video LOL.
Love the server content!
Ooooo proxy manager looks way simpler than whatever the hell I'm doing with SWAG right now. I'm getting the itch to do some server overhauls now. Can't wait for the home server video!
The thing is swag comes with so many sample proxy configs that you rarely have to do anything manually, and it includes cert bot so it can handle your SSL certs for you.
Look in nginx/proxy-confs under swag. Everything in there with dot sample on the end, you can basically just copy, paste, then remove the dot sample from the copy's filename and restart swag.
Then swag will proxy to a LSIO container of that name.
For anything not LSIO you just have to make minor mods to the file to point at the right IP and port.
Ya that's what I'm doing, I just do it so seldomly that I forget how to do it whenever it's time to add some obscure docker container. SWAG is still way easier than Traefik was for me.
@@whiskeyleafa Traefik looks cool but I’ve never actually tried to use it. What I’ve seen of it it looks like it has more of a learning curve but I’d say it’d be good once you’ve got it setup. It looks easier to use than vanilla nginx, but I don’t know if anything just gives you a bunch of already done configs for it the way swag does.
Great video!
I am currently setting up a domain, dhcp, dns, config manager, A/D setup for a homelab to train more for upcoming oppourtunities :)
Just was messing around with Nginx this weekend and felt so good to get anything working at all! haven't even watched the video yet but curious if you touch on STUN or TURN services as for me that seemed to be the next issue with doing lots from one site. Also I don't know what I'm doing but it is fun and important so thank you! Have been watching since Tiger Direct days if that's the name of that old place haha
Thanks for help! only one public ip for all hosts!! :-D Thank you i send you coffeee
Could there ever be a possibility for a tek syndicate reunion? With you and wendell? Not really sure how the things are between you but it sure would be awesome to see you together again, if possible.
Perhaps enough time has passed for you to be able to put aside the past and be friends? :)
I'm just a casual, so I haven't found many things to use Docker for, so I only use it for FlareSolverr and Jackett currently. But it is nifty. Thanks for the guide.
Maybe I should make a video covering some of the things I use it for. Honestly, my favorite thing right now is FressRSS. It's amazing being able to read stuff in an RSS feed rather than on a social media website.
@@teksyndicate I did see Chris Titus show how he used FressRSS a while back ( th-cam.com/video/nxV0CPNeFxY/w-d-xo.html ), so showing how to set it up doesn't sound like a terrible idea.
You can also use it invidious (alternative front-end for youtube), pi-hole dns server and maybe zoneminder for your home cctv needs.
hello master, thank you so much for the tutorial, i learned a lot. and if i want to make environment like: nginx+mariadb+php8.3+redis, just want to use powerful wordpress environment, so just depoly above environment + wordpress yaml file right?
I have an issue with portainer. Despite the fact plex and one other container has been set up to always restart, it sometimes just doesn't. I have to manually access it and restart it. It's always worked after a manual restart, but I can't comprehend why it won't automatically restart itself.
when you create the container, what restart policy are you using? I usually use, 'unless stopped,' but you can try, 'Always," and see if that fixes it.
while here if anyone uses Nextcloud and had a slow interface but was able to make it feel more snappy please share. hardware is old dual x5650 poweredge but VM is on PCI NVME SSD so I felt like it would be decently snappy but it is slow on both LAN and WAN when changing from say Files to Notes or to Calendar but within the page things are decent. Collectives pages switch decent and Decks operate well too
Nice Video :), have you tried Dockage yet instead of Portainer?
it didn't look like it had as many features, especially for power users... so I didn't see any reason to test it out until it gets more mature. The ui does look easier... but if I want easier, I'll probably go for CasaOS
@@teksyndicate No worries :)
Huh why am I subscribed to this channel again
These type of videos is why I'm subscribed to this channel to be honest

Finally!!! Linux time baby!! About time Logan! Now, uninstall foobar and switch, dammit!
Never!!! Lol. There's also the more important program, FL studio... It'll run in wine, but the plugins won't.
What Linux player are you proposing switching to? I'm willing to give it a look.
I mainly run Windows because of mods, as I can't be arsed to setup all the modding tools save editors, etc in WINE.
@@praetorxyn I can't leave Foobar. I'm hoping it gets ported to Linux. The creator said, "no," several years ago, but ported it to Android... since then they said, "maybe."
@@teksyndicate Yeah. Honestly I haven’t listened to much local music on my computer for the last several years, as I mostly listen to it on my phone with PowerAmp / BlackPlayer (I have and use both so I can more easily toggle between two albums at once without losing my place). On the computer I’ve just been streaming from Jellyfin.
I got foobar setup again using your guide, which is why I asked Op what player he wants you to switch to so I can take a look at it.
I’m trying to finish up a modded playthrough of Cyberpunk, then I think I’m going to reinstall Windows, as I haven’t been able to get my AMD chipset drivers to update for years, and I want the updated power management stuff.
@@praetorxyn I'm kind of the wrong person to ask. My needs for music are basic -- it should be able to play music, catalog them and scan folders. That's all I care about. I am currently using a terminal based program called Musikcube.
