I am so glad someone had some video of this production. I love the show, but this is the only one I ever saw live. In Chicago as a birthday present weekend with my wife. So good.
Excellent staging and the casting, the costumes, the choreography, the orchestra and orchestrations all were absolute perfection. This is the most spirited performance of this particular number I have ever seen. Brava! - and thank you!
I was backstage at this production. Those indeed are not men, but they would be so excited if you thought so, as Griffin's idea was that the ghosts be unatainable ideals of beauty from the past - mainly Erte. The tallest Ghost was indeed a young woman who is a legendary dancer who had issues being cast because of her height. She was the main thread throughout the show, and with her increadible headpieces and dead eyes, cast a spell over the audience. This was an incerdibly hard number to pull off becasue of the need to keep the number of actor contracts low, but the production was sold out, and this number had the audience on its feet very night.
Hello, it didn't occur to me that there was any gender-bending. And if there was (which there wasn't) who cares? The end result was smashing! I could see that deco-Erte, Ziegfeld-Joseph Urban referencing. This is my favorite song in the show and I loved the zeal and wit that went into it. It had a fresh energy and spirit that served the number well. And hallelujah! A Stella that danced the entire number!
