Update: the spray on bedliner's finish didn't last much so gonna get new half gallon $20 bucket of herculiner and reapply. Besides that everything else is working great!! Picked up a heavy duty 72" x 96" cargo net from ebay! link in description! Will update on quality as I go.
Go to a salvage yard and get 2 more cross bars for your roof rack. Then get 4 more brackets. That will increase the weight capacity and give you support so the pieces don’t pop out.
If you look at all of Arksen's roof racks you'll notice they're all rated at 150 pounds, even their smallest rack. The manufacturer probably came up with that number after looking at a cross section of all SUVs and went with a low number so they wouldn't be facing a lawsuit should one fail. What's going to fail isn't the Arksen rack it's the factory rack that it's mounted to. I'm looking at the 84" x 50" rack, hell I bet I could put a half dozen aunt Ednas up there without a problem. Great video, thanks for posting it!
I bought the 64' version, put it together in my living room.🙃 Putting it on my 08 Equinox in the morning. Had to get cross bars first at a salvage yard. They were easy to install.
Nice. I have this rack on my expedition too. I’m pretty happy with it. It’s one of the only BIG roof baskets you can buy and it has more weight capacity than the Yakima. Aside from a little rusting at the joints, it’s fine and seems pretty rugged. I just saw another video where a guy had an 84”x50” arksen. I wish I had that one, but oh well. Didn’t know they made one that wide.
I'm sorry to tell you. drilling holes in that tubing is making it weak . The sleeve that the tubing goes into actually gives it superior support distributed equally between the two joints . Now your idea of gluing them together is not a bad idea
I'm looking a this basket , so thx for the detailed vid. I think if I purchase this I will weld up all those pieces to add rigidity. Then like one of your commenters stated paint with Rustoleum.
Thanks for making this video. Now that the rack has been on your vehicle a few months has the extra reinforcement proven worth the extra effort for you?
hey champ. One i got via eBay is 84"(L) x 39"(W) x 6"(H) w/ extensions. lemme know how it goes 4 ya. Rack is awesome, solid as can be. Looks great with herculiner application. No peeling or rattling.
Looks like you're using the bracket incorrectly. Supposed to sandwich the rack between the metal bracket and the plastic bracket, and the plastic sits on TOP of the crossbar.
Appreciate feedback. Saw someone install it that way b/c it didn't stick out as much. I looked at and decided to go the road less traveled. Any safety issues you see doing it that way that i might be overlooking?
@@Maknificent12now I don't think there's a safety problem. It's not going anywhere. Thanks for making the video. It helped me make up my mind to get one. Arriving Thursday! I'm thinking of adding an 8 gallon DIY solar shower so I might go even further with strenthening things up.
Suppose you’re right. 💯 more pieces = decreased structural integrity vs 1 piece That said for the purpose most people use it for... not sure the cost of a single piece of molded steel is worth the “overkill “ amount of structural integrity your get from that kind of design ya know? I feel that steps I took to solidify it should do the job and then some. What kind of setup you got?

I'll bet the dog kept up for the first half mile or so... :)
I just bought mine today and built it in my living room. Nice suburban I got a 04

Magnificent !
You saved me hours. You have the killer philosophy. The way you laid it out - Sweet.
Glad it helped!
Great video man. I Have a 07 Tahoe and just purchased the 64 inch version. I plan to rhino line it like you did for extra protection.

I think there's an add on you buy that widens your existing 39" wide roofrack to 50".
I don't feel bad for building mine in the living room now, lol
You should've put silicone at interlocking points and screws during assembly....paint second..stand by for the rust....
Harbor Freight sells $5 Rustoleum Auto Paint Black Flat finish. I have the same rack and will spray a couple of extra coats on it for good measure.

Good man! Let us know how she turns out!
That’s what I was thinking of doing welding pieces together 🤔
Using thread locker blue or red would take care of any loosing, but I like the video, good job !!
Really adds to the look! 👊🏼
💪🏿
Excellent instructions and well spoken.
Put it on wrong 😂. The thick part of the mounting thing goes ON the cross bar not under it lmao. The cage shouldn’t sit right on the crossbars 😂😂
Very helpful video! Thank you sir
Glad it helped

Thnx 4 watching! 💯 worth it! Still looking brand new and no fade at all. Furthermore still as sturdy as ever! I’d def recommend it
What is the width of that one? They sell two 84 inch racks. 36' or 50' wide. Also, how it fairing?? Thanks

have you had any water leaking into it/rust issues yet? I'm thinking about purchasing one for a camping trip coming up..
No issues at all partner. Had I not sealed the corners I’m sure I would have
Looks great
I think you can buy an extra insert
Cool
How many of those horizontal bars do you need?
2 are sufficient. More than 2 just increases max weight. I went ahead and added 2 more since I had them sitting around but not necessary. 🤙🏿
Any wind noise when your driving?
🤔 Instead of the screws and the sealant you could have used HEAT SHRINK. would have worked for rattle and waterproof.
Why are you painting on your bedroom. Lol 😆
How did this effect your gas mpg?? Any wind noise, thinking about getting the 84 roof rack!!
None so far. Might be due to exhaust and etc but don’t notice notice issue. No real issue on fuel reduction
Does it come with the net when you bought it?
Net was separate on eBay
@@Maknificent12now thank you

I noticed the same on the bracket is not how is supposed to be on the instructions , that is probably why it get loose with vibration.
You'll never get those metal shavings out of your carpet from drilling
the whole rack is a weak link,,,with so many pieces to fit together.
