This was a good story. Yes you don't use the same car you are used to in the driving school reasoning behind it is that you'll buy/will be driving another totally different car when you get your DL so you have to know how to drive any car in your class. If your luck falls on the Model board, take your time and always start with the first option unless instructed otherwise. If say you start with the second option even if you are right you'll fail. The practical they usually just do test the start and stop. Start the car(after doing all the requirements [seat adjustment seats belt etc]) Change from gear one to two, then a smooth stop(Don't do an emergency stop). As much as you will be shaking for whatever reason, just release the clutch pedal slowly [to avoid stalling] and hold it once you attain the loading point [vibration she's talking about] car will just automatically start moving when on gear one.
I can resonate with your story. last Friday I passed my NTSA TEST. Your story is like mine. I found a different vehicle in the test from which I had trained with. When I changed gear 1 to gear 2, the gear went straight to gear 4, and the vehicle stopped. the examiner was near to chase me out. I pleaded with him for a second chance, and he agreed I should try again.. this time was keen when changing gears from 1 to 2. finally I passed. Some guys are rude, but not all them. especially some women examiners are tough there. Thanks to Rashid was fair to me.

My instructor told me it doesn't matter which option you use as long as it's correct everyone seems to have different stories.
