Will this technique work on all colored gems? Or just the 4 your mentioned? Also do real gem stones even if lab made fade if you put into acetone cleaner? And dye the liquid. Or is that a true sign of fake gems? Thank you for the video. Will help me alot in my new journey into gem stones.
Thank you for your reply. It works with all transparent Stones. The Stones I mentioned are usually the most often faked. Acetone usually dissolves paints, adhesives and resins very well; if the liquid changes color, it is a pretty sure sign that it is not a natural gem or a recolored stone. Only in the case of very brittle or cracked natural material, which is often improved in purity with oil, it could happen that the stone has a lot more visible inclusions after the bath in acetone. Certainly colored oils are also used to intensify the color, so it can also be that such a natural stone not only shows more inclusions but also loses color. If everything goes well, there will be the next episode in the next 2-3 weeks. Yesterday I got 6 natural emeralds to show a direct comparison. We also take a closer look at the shapes of the Stones (Natural Emerald vs Fakes) and more...stay tuned🙂
@@Mikah234 It shouldn't harm a natural stone. Perhaps there are a few materials that react negatively to acetone in some way. Many gemstone cutters bathe their stones in acetone to loosen the adhesive bond to the dopstick.
@@Mikah234 most genuine emeralds on the market have been treated with resin or substances similar, so I for sure wouldn't dip those, unless you were sold an untreated emerald for several k & want to verify. Hi, Thanks for watching, you can use every clear and colorless oil. For best results use an oil which RI is close to the Materials RI you plan to test. Thanks for your Comment. The Plan is to create more short Episodes to help identify Fake Stones. All these Episodes get in a Playlist, so we get a good Series of short Clips. Upon multiple requests also with a direct comparison between natural and faked Stones. It is a wide spreaded Theme to identifying natural Stones or Fakes and i am looking forward to show you some more Tips and Tricks in the next short Episodes. At the direct comparison, between natural Stones and Fakes, we take a closer look at the Color, the Zoning and Inclusions, so we have complete video with a lot of Material. I didn't want to include this Topic in the first Clip because it is very extensive and the Video would be too long. Certainly it would have been better to show a natural Stone as a short comparison. Thank you very much for your suggestion.
Olivia states my exact assessment of your video. In your explanation to her, you seem to imply that the TITLE of your video is a marketing ploy to get more attention to your other mini series clips WITHOUT providing the RESULTS to the findings between real and fake in your dipping test. So why did you present something that you know didn't portray the ANSWER to the distinction between real and fake emeralds in your video when your title was meat to do so? As all of your pieces were dipped with the exact SAME RESULT, which was real and which was fake? You didn't answer your own findings in this test.
Thank you very much. Be sure to watch my ultimate Tutorials with much more Informations, Tips, Tricks and natural Gemstones. Check out my Channel and you will find more interesting Videos👍
So to clarify. If I place any Gem, for example, a saphire or emerald into a clear oil, and the stone keeps it's color all through out it, then it's REAL. If not, as you've shown in the video, then it's FAKE. Is that correct.?
It was the first Video with this test. Up to this point i havent a lot of experience in creating Videos and some trouble with the sound. You have to look for different indicators. Natural Emerald e.g. Typical Inclusions, color zoning, the shape as i said and shown in my ultimate Tutorials. Indicators for Fakes are often a homogenic color, bubbles, or as i shown the example here clear Material for the Crown or the pavillion or both and only a thin Film of colored glue between them. This Test is very helpful, easy and cheap to learn more about your Stones.
When the Stone is colorless in Oil, it is no real Emerald. Real Emeralds often have inclusions and colorzoning. Often you see different saturations of Color in different Areas. If the Stone have strong and the same color in all areas, be critical and make more Tests. In the next Episode i plan a direct comparison between natural Emeralds and typical Fakes. First I have to buy some more faked Stones and look what questions comes in the Comments section to create the best content for you. Thanks for your Comment👍 Stay tuned✌

According to your description, it indicates a piece of dyed quartz, such stones are often used in Asia as an imitation for jade and in the rest of the world as an emerald imitation. Hi thank you for the information.. Also can you please teach us or tell us how to drill a emerald at home to male beads.. I have been looking for a video but i couldn't find any.. Can you help please.. thank you.
I am very sorry, unfortunately I have no experience with that. I only drilled holes in Quartz once and only as an emergency improvisation with unsuitable tools.
You need a Foredom preferably, if you intend to do this for years. The shaft part with an adjustable chuck is a must. Short term, a Dremel moto tool will work, just not the workhorse like the Foredoms. Diamond drill bits Are a must. Next, you need padded locking jawed pliers, to hold the stone steady - you can figure that out. I personally also put a shallow plastic dish I'm comfortable using, with a thick sponge in the center. This setup is for what we call, "Wet drilling," to keep the stone cooled off, and keep the bit cool, so you don't shatter the stone! Don't forget SAFETY GOGGLES, do this in a safe place. Also note: you can go to a bench jeweler, have this done for you. Or have a partial hole, like for pearls, drilled into it. Then you can epoxy a colorless cement to hold the bail in, if that's all you need. But what do I know? I've only been cutting stones since I was 16.
Make sure to check my Ultimate Emerald Tutorial here th-cam.com/video/DT3lo3pgNbs/w-d-xo.html In this Video you i shared some more Tips Tricks and you will also see natural Emeralds compared to synthetic Material etc.
Yes, I just need a good natural stone that I can use as a perfect example. At the last Auctions I was always outbid😥 But now I have found some very well-fitting Stones for our comparison, that will be auctioned on April 17th. I really hope to get them, to finally be able to make the Video. I have all the usual Fakes here, but that took a while because I didn't want to order directly from India and therefore had to look a lot before I found the right Materials here.
Often you will find color zoning and pay attention to jardin, which means look for irregular inclusion pictures. Thats always a very good indicator for natural Stones. What also helps is to examine the Stone under UV light, Emeralds are often oiled, often with traditional oils that are UV active, i.e. small fluorescent zones can be seen. So far I haven't scrutinized a synthesis that has been prepared with fluorescent oils. In the meantime I have found two more typical syntheses that we will examine together in a new Video. I am still missing a few natural, meaningful emeralds, with which I can illustrate what is important and for direct comparison with the usual Syntheses.
