A diamonds reflective index is what makes it difficult to see a line through it. An easy way to differentiate between a real V. fake, especially in cooler weather is the condensation test. Blow on the stone like you would your glasses to clean them, if condensation remains when you pull away to look, it's a fake. Or if you happen to be a jeweler, you know.
As a gemologist, the moment you put ‘diamond’ A on the line I confirmed my suspicion it wasn’t a diamond. diamond is so highly refractive, the line will never curve unless its severely included. From the moment you first showed them side by side I knew A was most likely a CZ. You can tell by the sharpness of the facets. Sorry you got scammed. But that’s why you shouldn’t ever trust what you buy online. As I always tell my customers, if it seems too good to be true when I come to jewelry, it usually is.
iPhone's sapphire lens is not pure; therefore, it's hardness level is lower. There are many videos that explain the weakness of the iPhone's sapphire lens.
None of these tests, other than the density test really help me to determine a stones validity. Unforunately, the verbal recording was not within my ease of hearing. I would look for inclusions or test it with a meter.
I wanted to say that you can determine the volume of a diamond by it's visual size vs carat rating. A good way to tell all of this is by the price you pay: if you get a diamond that is impeccable and that has zero blemishes or inclusions to 2x magnification then you're either holding a super expensive diamond or a fake.
Another easy way to test it is to find hard flat surface (flat stone)and a hard stick and put your diamond underneath it and try to crush it if it crushes it is fake and if it does not it is real
Use the "fog" method. Breathe on the stone and you will see it "fog up". On a real diamond, the "fog" will evaporate within 1.5 seconds. I have not tried this test on the synthetic (man made) diamonds, by BrilliantEarth, LightBox, or CleanOrigin.
On mohs hardness scale diamond is rated at a 10. Sapphire is 7 or 8 can't remember sorry. The iPhone camera lenses contains very little amount of real Sapphire. the lense starts scratching at a 6 sometimes 5. Now glass is rated at a 3-4 depending on what type, which allows diamond and Sapphire to scratch it. And allows diamond to scratch Sapphire. This should summarize this whole video
3:55 so let me get this straight are gonna damage a perfectly good iPhone just to see if the diamond is real or not? Why not get a diamond tester that cost not even $10 on eBay?
Hry man i was wondering. Ive seen videos of real diamonds not influencing a lazer. Instead of the prism effect happening diamonds seem to ignore the prism effect and just go right thru straight?
I’m gonna say this now because no one else did but if you have 43 years of experience why would you potentially ruin a very expensive diamond by ruining its point I don’t get it
@@joseph-danieltn7573 @approx 2:47 he is rubbing the point (culet) of the stone on a glass slide. diamond is hard but also brittle with cleavage planes and grain direction, any pointed part on a diamond is extremely prone to damage. on any gem for that matter. i should have been clearer and added (SO DON'T DO IT!!!) and don't hit it with a hammer either! or any of the other stupid wive's tales out there! :)

Now that CVD lab grown diamonds have flooded the market at such a cheap price and are said to be better than the real thing with no impurities it seams pointless selling a fake diamond now.
Harry Weds Not necessarily. The value of a diamond is most dependent on the carat, and clarity of the diamond. Color also plays a role in the value of a diamond but carat is the most prominent.

The iPhone lens is very poor quality sapphire and scratches at a 6 or 7 on Mohs scale of hardness. JerryRigEverything tested that. He compared it to a Tisot watch to prove it was crap quality

Hey dude, a diamond tester cost $10 on Ebay

Danielson Miagi CZ? It stands for cubic zirconia. A man made stone.

Can you share a work e-mail address? I have a specimen which needs your professional opinion. Thanks

Man made aka lab grown diamonds are real diamonds. There will be no difference in their properties.
Industrial method produced diamond is even better than the natural one. the colour, clarity are both better.
