This shit is why people come to Sephora needing a therapy session. I get clients who walk in with kind eyes, warm laughs, and all sorts of great features begging to be "fixed", claiming up and down that there are a million things wrong with them. Makeup should be FUN. Its there to make you feel GOOD about what you have. Its an art, not a requirement.
I like to do more artistic makeups rather than "normal ones" and people seem to think I just wanna cover my full face out of insecurity? I love looking straight up from a horror movie, weird lines, flashy colors, ITS FUN AND LOOKS FUN. Dont know why everyone is afraid of being different or trying new things for their own...Oh yeah, because of people like the glowupgal. 💀 Btw you are doing an amazing job ❤

The "your face isnt done cooking" is so true. I notice my face change a lot when i was 18, and now at 20 its still changing a bit.
And then you've got someone like me who's had the same face since I was sixteen, and now I'm twenty four. Honestly, looking at my mum, I'll probably have the same face for most of my life, and that just goes to show no two people are the same. Genetics play a huge part in what your face looks like, which is why the idea of a "universal beauty standard" is so harmful

Honestly the only changes my face has had since I was 4 is basically it got bigger and I got eczema and allergy shiners. I'm more or less exactly the same. People are always like 'nooo' but then I show them a picture of me with my nan at the age of 5 and then they're like 'oh yeah actually you are basically exactly the same wtf are you a vampire'. I am very pale, get terribly burned by the sun, need to be explicitly invited to places and putting a stake through my heart will kill me so obviously the answer is yes lol.
Yeah, I used to have really chubby cheeks now my cheek bones are more defined, I also used to have a very feminine face now it's more androgynous because of my jaw line. It's so odd how human bodies work, that's why I am gonna wait until I'm 25 to make any decisions on surgeries in case my face does change more and I'm more happy with it.

I believe people who feel entitled to call other people "ugly" are extremely insecure about their own appearance. A truly confident person doesn't target people over these things.

Also Accutane can really fuck you up. It's hormone therapy that can make you enervated, depressed or experience suicidal thoughts, and it's supposed to be for people who have extremely intense acne that is painful and can't be reduced with other treatments. You have to take it for about a year, and get monthly blood work done. I know, I took it and needed it. It's not something to just recommend to anyone with any amount of acne.
As a person who has dealt with acne for about 10 years, my favorite part of having it is recieving unsolicited advice from people whose definition of a "bad breakout" is what my skin looks like at its clearest. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me whether or not I washed my face or told me to drink more water, I'd be able to afford acutane.

Too frequently, people feel like they're being helpful when they volunteer unsolicited advice to "fix" another person's health issues. I believe they do this to sooth any uneasiness they feel in these situations.
My sister, at age 12, had to undergo pregnancy tests every month at her dermatologist appointments when she was prescribed Acutaine. It was a safety measure, but disturbing all the same.
When ur in ur mid 20s consider using retinol. I was able to control my acne this way (after suffering for 15 years)
absolutely and same here, have had cystic acne for around 7 years. and how people have always said the same thing - like girl YES i have tried the most basic things.. and it’s so beyond frustrating for people to think acne is ugly even though my face would be the same structure would be the same with or without it.. like i understand ya fr 😢

I always think Shel Silverstein put it best wayyyy back when. He had a poem for kids about beauty, and it really was always right. You can have buck teeth, a wonky nose, frizzy hair, and as long as there's happy thoughts and a kindness in you, it shines out and makes you pretty no matter what the outside looks like. It was so weird when she made them blonde. It didn't look right at all. Also, with curly hair, it is often twice as long as it appears. How it hangs depends on your curl pattern. Seeing her give the one girl a completely different curl pattern is truly upsetting and awful. It's giving texturism.

When i worked in retail I hated when people would ask me “would YOU wear this.” It doesn’t matter what I would wear. My style might not be your style. My insecurities and my appearance isnt the same as yours. I would only try to meet whatever their specific needs were and make it fashionable. You want to be modest? Cover your tummy? Want bright colors? Have a short torso? Need something professional? Want to look sexy and classy? OKAY! I’m just here to find what you need and make sure it’s styled to fit those needs!

I should probably have lowered my expectations but speaking as someone who’s family has very prominent Jewish noses that I’ve always found beautiful, it’s still sometimes a shock how blatantly racist people can be under the guise of “beauty tips”
As a black woman, I've side eyedthe fuck out of contouring since it became a popular concept for this very reason. I have a short nose bridge and a pretty flat nose with large nostrils, very much not a European beauty standard nose. And I've noticed that a lot of these glow up contouring things will attack the shit out of anyone's nose, but especially women of color that do not have the long and sharp nose profile. And I'm not going to lie, it's made me self-conscious at times even though my nose looks fine with the rest of my face and functions as a nose should. And I'm 30 fucking years old lmao.

I’m lucky because I grew up around enough people with big noses to have it hammered into my skull that they do look nice and beauty trends are full of shit, but I know a lot of people who’ve been taught basically to be insecure about their facial features since they were children. It’s really so upsetting to me, I have multiple friends who’ve told me about how they used to photoshop their noses in pictures to be smaller. I didn’t grow up with television so I think my first exposure to the idea that a lot of people saw hooked and large noses as ugly was through the Harry Potter books, I remember finding jk Rowlings descriptions of villain characters so needlessly cruel even when I was like nine or ten, it actually shocked me a little lol. Like that woman went to every length to emphasise that her evil characters all had “ugly hooked noses”, it for sure did a number on so many kids and it makes me really sad. I have a pretty prominent nose too, and being brown I grew up around lots of people who had beautiful, big, round, all shapes and sizes-noses. I grew so insecure of my nose because even my mother would like squeeze my nose from time to time when I was a kid and say keep doing it it'll get smaller eventually. That shit fucked me up for years. I would beat at my nose bridge to try and get it less bent. Until in 9th grade I realized so many people around me had similar insecurities too. I draw, so I spent a chunk of my time back then drawing the noses of people who said they were insecure of them and showing them how they all are in the grand scheme of things when placed next to each other. I grew an appreciation for my own nose back then too :)

11:18 Accutane can be damaging in OTHER WAYS. So no, not everyone can take it. It’s not a “try this cream” type of this. It’s a HEAVY DUTY medicine.
My brother can't take a ton of medication (including most acne meds, which he's recently been prescribed cause he has pretty gnarly breakout) because he has a kidney disease. Potentially unpopular opinion: Suggesting so many of these girls get blonde hair is ludicrous because if you're not naturally blonde, that color can not only jack up the texture of your hair and make your hair look thinner, but it often makes women look way older than they are. In one of the clips of her "improvements" the girl had healthy-looking hair and whatever app she used literally gave her damaged-looking highlighted hair. Lol.

It's dyed green, fading to yellow-green. And it could jack up my hair so I choose to dye my hair darker colors and not lighter colors but I do really wanna dye it blue.

i work at a beauty store and the amount of women who come in asking for products that will change their entire appearance to fit tiktok standards ☹️
I was on accutane. It was horrible, it cleared up my acne for sure but my skin the entire time I was on it(everywhere but my face) was a mess. I had really bad cracking and bleeding eczema, my asthma got worse over that time, I had really bad and worsening anxiety. Even after that my skin, that hasn’t suffered eczema since I was a baby still has issues as well as almost zero tolerance for sun. I am a quarter japanese and used to tan super easily, almost never got burned; last time I went to Hawaii with my family I had sun poisoning for half the trip. I also somehow developed an allergy to almost all sunscreen except for cerave. DONT go on accutane unless you are REALLY prepared for the side effects.

Same here, other than acne in my late 20s I'm happy with my face and have been for a long time. Wearing make up doesn't make me feel prettier, just different. As someone who had braces for 6+ years and had another thing before that (don't know the name in english) because I was born with a smaller upper jawbone. Orthodontics aren't just for appearance concerns, most of the time our teeth have to be straighten because it lowers the chances of loosing teeth younger and not having dentures or implants younger. Also our teeth aren't usually very white, they are always somewhat off-white coloured and it's perfectly healthy and natural to have a tint. Some people have whiter teeth naturally but bleaching them fuck up your enamel which can lead to sensitive teeth or increase chances to get cavities.
Just brush your teeth and use dental floss or dental picks if you have a wire behind your teeth like I do so you can get it as clean as possible. And if you have the means, go to your dentist once a year to get a tartar removal.
All in all, I know orthodontics are really expensive and inaccessible in a lot of country. Even in Switzerland it's expensive af, I was "lucky" enough that my condition was seen as a baby and I was entitled to disability insurance to get it fixed so my parents didn't have to ruin themselves for me to have good teeth. One of my brother has a slightly crroked teeth but the dentist said it won't have any impact on his whole denture so he decided to not do anything and it's perfectly okay.
If you have good healthy teeth that allows you to eat anything you need, please just brush and floss and don't screw them with cheap whitening products for aesthetics.
