What a game. 3 key takeaways for Game 12:
    1. Ding's opening choices are quite bizzare but it is working. h3 QGD and the Colle System are both "passive openings" or openings that your waiting for your opponent to create the initiative. That is why you need people like Jorden Van Forrest and Richard Rapport on your team that creates such opening surprises.
    2. The rollercoaster of emotions and chess mistakes of this match is absolutely unbelievable. This is the positive effect of Magnus reliving the title because a battle of two evenly match players will produce this absolute nail-bitters.
    3. The look of dismay on Nepo's face really humanizes this Top players. At the end of the day, they are all human beings and they can make mistakes and feel such sadness.

Despite those hard-to-watch minutes of Nepo suffering, it's nice that we're still seeing real people play here. I mean we're all tensely sitting in front of our screens with our engines telling us what the best moves are. Imagine you are sitting there and "only" have your own wetware available. People criticizing Nepo have no clue about how it feels to play a strategic game at a high competitive level, furthermore under cameras.
He's emotional, that's a fact, and gets weaker in stressful moments. It showed on 2021 when he chained blunders against Carlsen. But 14 high stakes extreme level matches in three weeks PLUS press conference is exhausting. Thinking demands energy, and it's fair that in complicated position you might have some moment of absence. This is an unique structure of tournament after all, people are understimating the pressure that comes when you know all the chess world is watching your moves.
Okay, most people could see that this was a blunder, but most people couldn't have played the 12 games as well as he did, because you haven't even tried to put yourself in his shoes.
If you think the level is dissapointing, please go become a world champion, qualify for candidates and win the whole thing. The only ones allowed to fairly criticize Nepo are the world champions. Magnus is better than Nepo, that's a fact, but he chose not to compete this time, move on and accept it.

This game and the previous showed the difference between super GMs and engines. In these positions where everything is attacking/denfending everything, discoveries everywhere, both kings behind open files/diagonals, engines would just say "it's fine it's a draw". Humans would calculate under pressure and self doubt. In forcing lines super GMs play perfect games but in this scenario even Magnus would probably only do 5% better than everybody else.

I relate to Nepo as a player much more than any other player in the world! Not because I'm some sort of a GM or something but because of my ability to blunder winning or even easily draw-ish positions.
Where I know a few moves back that there is nothing more to be done in the game for my opponent to win. Not saying just because of this game but Nepo's last championship game as well.
And thoroughly enjoyed your covering Agad! No spoilers. I was so tensed in the end and it turned out completely opposite of what I was expecting of the position. Brilliant!

High drama. The match remains in the balance. Worthy of the great Kasparov v Anand disaster and reaction.
However, I think we can say it was an astonishingly original game, with a fierce attack finally held in check, leading to some subtle manoeuvres around the periphery of a complex and dead locked structure. An unfortunate result for Nepo, who as usual handled the loss like a pro, but certainly a memorable game for fans and chess in general that energised the match.
A series of quiet and technical draws would have been an anticlimax, while this ensures the players achieved an historic match whoever wins.👏
