This is such a good one. I love TMBG but about a year ago I kinda of was out of my obsession with them (it happens 😭) but watching through this and seeing another concert video of theirs just reminded me why I fell in love with them all over again. There’s really no one else out there like em - sure some bands can imitate it or sound similar, but the ideas and creative freedom/fun/ and purity (not like PG vs R rated purity but like, just them having purity in how they follow their instincts/fun/their musical interests and intuition both when it sounds great and harmonious and also when it’s more about achieving atmosphere or something more surreal/odd) at the center of their music and performance is something special.
0:00 - S-E-X-X-Y 2:20 - Istanbul (Not Constantinople) 5:20 - James K. Polk 8:15 - How Can I Sing Like A Girl? 10:48 - Birdhouse In Your Soul 14:10 - Glockenspiel Intro 14:56 - Shoehorn With Teeth 16:40 - Shoehorn With Teeth (CD Skip Version) 17:08 - Glockenspiel Outro 18:43 - Doctor Worm 22:27 - Don't Let's Start 27:39 - Battle For The Planet Of The Apes 29:30 - Letterbox 31:04 - She's Actual Size 33:49 - Particle Man (Breakdown: "The Sign" by Ace of Base) 36:48 - XTC Vs. Adam Ant 40:15 - Exquisite Dead Guy (featuring the puppets) 42:36 - Spy 48:01 - Spiraling Shape 53:22 - Meet James Ensor 56:25 - Ana Ng 59:26 - Twisting NOT SHOWN IN THE VID: Pet Name Spider The Guitar No One Knows My Plan Dig My Grave Encore: Lie Still, Little Bottle New York City Till My Head Falls Off
Right after XTC vs. Adam Ant at 40:08 it sounds like somebody (possibly with a British accent) says "That was shit". Guess maybe that particular individual was having a bad night for whatever reason. I mean, it's not my favourite song either but come on.
