Laura grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania but had a challenging childhood. She experienced childhood neglect, and from a young age, porn was normalized in her life.
Her warped understanding of love led her to seek out validation from men, which eventually led to her working in the porn industry.
During this conversation, podcast host Garrett Jonsson talked with her about her misconceptions about the porn industry, how her time in the porn industry negatively impacted her, and what she’s up to today since leaving porn.
Consider Before Consuming is brought to you by Fight the New Drug, a non-religious, non-legislative nonprofit dedicated to educating individuals on the harms of pornography using only science, facts, and personal accounts.

If a person is not mentally stable then their participation with the porn industry is not informed consent, Anyone who has been involved in porn should have a right to revoke their material at anytime. No corporation should have forever rights to someone's explicit material, that is slavery not freedom.

I would say that nobody in porn is right on their minds. Are we gonna say that nymphomanism isn't a thing? Is that normal that a girl enjoys being ravaged by 15 dudes in a gangbang or even DP's? Hardcore BDSM's? Or even saying that they aren't bissexual at the very least if they do same sex scenes? A lot of stuff in porn is straight out parafilia realm. These epople are addicte to sex in a very unwealthy way. No wonder that majority of them come from screwed familiar backgrounds.

there are no mentally stable people among p0rn performers, in most cases they come into the business with huge ''baggage'' starting from the early age... it can be prolonged exposure to p0rn, broken families, abusive relationships, drugs, whatever... you can't open your mouth and swallow urine from multiple d((cks excuse me on camera if you are stable.

when I was about 3 or 4 years old we had a box full of vcr tapes, I would always go thru the box and see what each movie was and some were unlabeled. I once put in one that was a porn and when I saw what was happening I immediately started crying and feeling very very disgusted. I ran to my older brother and said I saw butts 😢 he knew exactly what it was and he smashed the tape in front of me and got pissed at my dad cuz it was obviously his. since then I choose to keep my mind as pure as possible, I recently deleted my Instagram too because I’m convinced that they are slowly starting to normalize pornography/ the sexualization of things and I don’t want to be exposed to any of it. Just doesn’t feel right in my spirit. praise Jesus everyday for keeping me pure

It feels to me that your rigid religious upbringing has caused you to overreact to the thought of your sexuality. Sure, the VCR tape is a valid reaction, but you sound like you have gone on to reject your sexuality completely. This is normal for those raised in the extreme religiosity of an evangelical home. For your own sake you need to break from this rigid religious world.

I didn’t see the point in living anymore because I thought so low of myself and because life was so painful. Part of that shame was from my religious beliefs. But a lot of it was from the knowledge of what is behind porn itself. I couldn’t stand the thought of myself feeding that industry. I also felt like fighting it didn’t make a difference. Anxiety, depression, and dysfunctional families are far too common today. It seems like our country is spiraling out of control. We really need to return to strong family values, focus on raising our children, and showering them with love and attention. The fact that parents today are focused on finances, a direct result of the dollar constantly being devalued by terrible leaders and bureaucrats, results in ignoring children. My dad bought a new car for $500 and his 2500 sq ft house in the burbs for $25k in the 60s. Try doing that today!

People don't have to have kids. Maybe they shouldn't consider it. Especially if they are just doing so to check off a socially conditioned box and aren't genuinely interested in making and developing a nurtured well adjusted human that has to exist in the world. Or if they don't make six figures and have the capacity to do so independent of one specific job. Humans are overpopulated as it is, it's totally fine to sit that one out if you aren't completely cut out for the job and daily investment and EQ required.

Porn has burnt out your dopamine reward system. In a way, that's a blessing because it makes it easier to go cold turkey and quit porn for good. On the other hand, it makes you feel like less of a man, so you will keep wanting to go back to see if you can get that feeling of arousal again. All I can say is, resist that urge. The more times you go back, the less you can recover. If you go full monk mode for a year or two, your body can restore itself. Physically that is. Mentally, you will always be vulnerable to porn. You have to keep it out of your life at all costs. If you go back, it will reel you back in. Find other interests to rebuild your dopamine reward system. Good luck, man.

But even when she was talking about school, i had the same experience. No relationship with dad, tried to look for male affection in my peers, relationships fizzled out once they realized i wasnted to wait til marriage to have sex. How crazy, the only difference is i started dating my then boyfriend once i turned 18 who is now my husband of 11 years who probably saved me from going down a similar path or something equally as destructive.

It definitely warped my understanding of sexuality and intimacy in ways I'm only just realising now (20+ years on).
I agree with the host that the effects of pornography do not discriminate and I am grateful for this channel and its resources. They are helping me unpick how that young exposure fuelled some of my dysfunctional behaviour as I got older.

People bend over backwards to reject the Biblical reason to avoid this. You guys / gals try to do everything your own way and then get exposed to the reality of sin. The Bibles commandments are not rules to make life boring or oppressed they are rules to follow to protect us from the evil of this fallen world. God created man and woman. He designed us to fit together in a great way. We abuse that gift and look what happens. Both men and women face the consequences of sin even if you don't want to acknowledge it.
