I just got this game and within 2 hours of gameplay, my whole squad was taken out. It was such a crushing feeling. But, I followed your advice and now every soldier is coming back alive. Thanks man.
I agree over watch is extremely vital, but there are some circumstances hunkering down can be more powerful in a longer run to keep a unit a chance to survive while you have other units doing a flanking move to get out of a tricky situation.
No, the first thing you should research is a scope. Trust me!! If you know how to position troops properly you wont need armor until half way through the game and only then because enemies have grenades and you want to be prepared.
Chryssalid with 2hp at close range and 3 heavy floaters with full health at long range.... Chooses to waste the snipers shot on a kill that several of the other soldiers could've made with their eyes closed instead of shooting a distanced floater with said sniper. Tactical.
Also another perk of overwatch is that it'll shoot them even if the enemy is out of normal range of that character. Not sure if you mentioned that or not, was kinda multi tasking at the time
My fave stratigem: two Squadsight Snipers (ideally w/Archangel Amror) at least one with Oppertunitist, a thrid soldier with Ghost armor, and exploiting the hell out of a glitch. Normally, snipers can only overwatch after moving with the pistol. But on PC, if you use the overwatch hotkey, you have a moment to click back on the rifle, and overwatch with it. Then, send someoe ghosting to scout, find an unactivated squad. Have sniper2 shoot, 1 down. Aliens scatter, overwatch, 2 down. Scout fires, 3.
I've recently discovered that Hunker Down allows you to essentially 'ambush' an enemy squad. It may reduce your visibility range, but it also seems to reduce their ability to detect you. Overwatch is great, but keep in mind that xrays wont move when under Overwatch; that, and you take a major hit to accuracy. Use it for map control.
I have to say, great video and very good tips. For me, all that you say I have learned a long time ago. I go way back to XCOM UFO Defense. Please don't ask me how long that was. Good job and keep up the good work.
idk if you still care or if you already know, but the ring that hunker down makes around the character represents their line of sight. The LoS is usually 27 tiles away, but it is 3 when you use hunker down.
It also helps to draw enemies out by using just a single Point Man to spot enemies and retreat, because some of them can be very aggressive and give chase. That's where Overwatch ambush can set up easy kills, or you can lure them into a killzone surrounded by your crew. Full cover is best, Partial cover is more for hunkering down because the 20 evade is not as effective. Hunker itself is good for minimizing critical hits. Concealment, being out of LOS, is even better for avoiding getting hit.
Great tips! I've been playing for about 6- 8 months now and haven't found any good tip videos until this one. Of course by now I've already mastered the game, soooooo, such is life I guess. =/
Sgt Schultz Brigade Yes, thank you! After playing for countless hours now, I cringe when I see some of these TH-camrs playing this game like a run&gun fps. As you said, it's digital chess, a thinking game. Have you tried "Xcom; Enemy Within"? Is it worth buying?
i would say yes it is but get it on sale i think would be best bet. it is a good addition but as dlc getting it full price never seems right to me. $30 as a dlc pack now does not feel right look for it as a ten buck addition feels right. it does add alot but i dont think 30 is a fair asking for it
it does feel more like an expansion pack but with the economy not being the best in any country i think waiting for a sale on steam would be good. hope this helped
Tell me about it, i get issues with my uploads ;/ Keep up the good work tho mate, loving xcom :) your tips are invaluable :) im learning the abilitys, that you unlock when you promote them. so hint hint, talk about them some more :)
I'm play slightly different. 2 snipers spec in a way to be life savers, 1 assault that can take a hit and draw fire(meat shield), 2 medics that can get to the wounded (also equipped with stun gun when second slot available), finally a heavy that deals "heavy" damage to machines. I also divide the squad into 2 groups that can support the other in the event of an "oh shit" moment. You can guess sub squad formations.
Pretty useful at my first playthrough, thanks for that. My only disagreement - I think that weapons are more important than armors, becouse enemies tend to get more HP early, what is bad for me, if I can't compensate it with my damage (it's good at least for normal difficulty, while I can pretty often end a mission with no damage to my men).
Very good job!.... love this game and the fact that it can kick our asses.Without proper tactics it will more often than not.Its nice to have a thinking game for a change too many run and gun brainless shooters...this game is differently not that
A few tips for you (in return for the tips you have given!) Equip your damn Support with a medikit! Don't move your units in the order that the game presents them to you. You never know when you'll need that Headshot or Heal after only a couple of units have moved, but you'll miss it if that unit is already in Overwatch! Reserve Assault units for busting entrenched enemy positions: Run N' Gun, coupled with Lightning Reflexes and the one that breaks cover is AMAZING at dislodging covered enemies!
thank you i meant personally did you like the video lol i did not think and mean you had to give me a like but i do appreciate that you are going to and i thank you. and i hope to hear from you in the future and hope to see you on my channel again.
Patience is without a doubt, absolutely the key to this game. Your first objectives when starting a fresh game should be building satellites and satellite uplinks for increased diplomacy and additional wages + scientists and engineers. Also, building an interrogation chamber and using the arc thrower is key too at first because when you capture an alien, you'll gain their more powerful weapons for free. That and interceptors, build at least 2 per region with upgraded weapons asap. Reloading too!
I'm drunk, but I still need to get the DLC for XCOM. But nothing will replace the original. Thanks for the tips! my ps3 is over heating but I'm spending my summer on the paintball field! I love XCOM every time I complete the Original I say another tour of duy accmplised! I once had a sergent with a %120 aim accuracey but then i made a bad move and moved him across an open space and he got killed. XCOM gives you a sense of PTSD. I wish i saved him. But i refused to reolad the mission.
mate u should also showed us what r the gear u r wearing do u have a S.C.O.P.E, medikit , alien grenade etc u know what i mean & keep the cool videos coming thumbs up!!!!
agreed i am just giving tips that i feel work and they work for me most of the time. using your own judgement in the given situations is usually the best i am just saying something that i hope helps and i am sorry that it was not able to help
Don't forget to not put your squad too close together. The mutons throw grenades and if your squad is too close, you get damaged badly. Good guide though, well done.
i have a basic one up on resources up on my channel and will probably be doing a more in depth on on the money alone. i hope you liked the video hope to hear from you on my other vids and good luck kicking the alien but
I'd have used the soldier that was RIGHT next to that last crysalid to take it out and save the sniper for the distant Floaters. Thanks for the video :)
taking your time is important. I thought I was ok to move into a ship and it turned out that I had mutons on one side of me and a cyberdisc on the other. I somehow came out of the situation with only one loss.
Dude, please, SLOW DOWN. Plan out your video and the points your going to hit. You fumbled around so much in what you were saying that it became annoying to listen to you blabber on and on and constantly cut yourself off. I couldnt even finish the video
yup it does but TW is a VERY easy game I cannot even remember a battle I lost playing any version (even with the darth mod).More than anything I like xcom's challenge that makes your tactics actually mean win or loose. Games today are just way too easy
i am glad i can help i have other and i hope those also help you also. i will be doing more in the future and i hope you see them and they help. hope to hear from you on in future glad you enjoyed it.hope you subscribe and please tell me what you think on my other vids hope to hear from you and good luck fighting those aliens
lol i know what you mean lol will be doing more vids on tips and tricks and the best way to take down the aliens i hope you enjoined them. please tell me what you think of it. hope to hear from you again in the future good luck on the difficulty and my you kick some alien ass
This is good "in combat tactics" but do you have any tips for after ward back at base and which missions and areas are priority to keep in the good or ok if it goes bad ratio I tried it first won every in combat fight but I lost becouse of the games secondary workings and I let 8 places go hysteric :(
I like to play this on classic, ironman, with 2 second wave perks that randomise stats of soldiers. Thin men just 1 shot crit my soldiers almost everytime in full cover and sometimes hunkered down. I havent completed it on Ironman mode yet. I am on game 18.
So i had 3 guys since the begining. Each had like 12 missions alredy and i took on a hard one thinking it was going to be easy anf lost chuck norris, obama, and bruce wills only jason statham survive. Very sad right now.
i go back and forth every time i play i tend to be slow and turtle up so i feel armor is the best way to go but going for plasma is not a bad idea i dont remember if you can skip laser i thought they had to be researched before they went to plasma
overwatch is a great thing. another great thing is that in xcom 2 - there's no longer aim penalty but I havent played the games yet and I dont know how the thing with all your people wasting their overwatch shot on the first thing in their range is fixed like you have all your squad on overwatch and the AI like deliberately moves with the weaker aliens so they get shot at while the mechs move in to kill you off after that. whatever. good vidya
I tried to follow your tips, and use oveewatch if the chance to hit was too low, and then i got one of my soldiers killed because of that. The aliens just fired at me everytime, and they hit me, while i was just doing overwatch. Sorry mate, fire is gonna be my primary move.
i think it is normal but i have gone through a few playthroughs i can't remember and i am trying it on harder difficulty now i am very sorry if this does not help
my biggist thing is not this its how to do reserch and WHAT TO. also how to get there. i have good armort but im always lacking good firepower. or all my main peeps are being taken care of for 2 weeks or so cause of this. also i dont know what to build and when since im always in need of cash. and im almust always in need of...
Great tips, but you should really take some time with your speech. Stumbling over words constantly gets annoying, like a high school presentation or something. Keep up the awesome work and analysis!
i am glad you enjoyed the video. =) i will be doing more of them i hope you subscribe and watch them and enjoy them and also the past videos i hope you watch and enjoy them also. =) hope to hear from you again thank you fro the positive comment and the words of encouragement
Sometime take the game slowly, sometime take the game fast, sometime you need to shoot, sometime you need to cover and support. Sounds like all your sentences end with an exclamation mark too. Sometime I like, sometime I don't!!
you should really use supression on your heavys with that overwatch so that if they decide to stay and shoot they are going to miss and if they move then they are guned down by overwatch you are talking about controling the situation but by having everyone stand infront of the aliens with overwatch doesnt always work they could just take a shot so u have to use your flush ability from your assualt and force their movement or supression to make sure if they do stay their aim is bad
yes i can and i am doing =) i hope you like the video. please subscribe and tell me what you think and i hope you enjoy my past and future videos and i hope to hear you again in the future "schultzy"

Tactical.
yeah not the best solution
Thanks for making tips ..many people not used to this type of game and say its too hard.Following tips like these will make it easier for sure
Also another perk of overwatch is that it'll shoot them even if the enemy is out of normal range of that character.
Not sure if you mentioned that or not, was kinda multi tasking at the time
You were over excited for this video but thank you for making it. Good tips for beginners. The dislikes are unwarranted.
My fave stratigem: two Squadsight Snipers (ideally w/Archangel Amror) at least one with Oppertunitist, a thrid soldier with Ghost armor, and exploiting the hell out of a glitch. I love this seriously. You make it even more intense. Just look at that alien. He is dangerous as fuck. Haha cheers buddy.
I have to say, great video and very good tips. For me, all that you say I have learned a long time ago. I go way back to XCOM UFO Defense. Please don't ask me how long that was. Good job and keep up the good work.
i really like ur tactics man helpt me alot my method was splitting into groups
idk if you still care or if you already know, but the ring that hunker down makes around the character represents their line of sight. The LoS is usually 27 tiles away, but it is 3 when you use hunker down.
I believe the ring is the line of sight that the hunkered solider has for that turn. Notice the symbol - eye with a cross out over it.
It also helps to draw enemies out by using just a single Point Man to spot enemies and retreat, because some of them can be very aggressive and give chase. That's where Overwatch ambush can set up easy kills, or you can lure them into a killzone surrounded by your crew.

Concealment, being out of LOS, is even better for avoiding getting hit.
Great vid! You sound pretty young but you are good at this. Your delivery is clear and enthusiastic and very informative, thanks!
Great tips! I've been playing for about 6- 8 months now and haven't found any good tip videos until this one. Of course by now I've already mastered the game, soooooo, such is life I guess. =/
glad you like it
Sgt Schultz Brigade Yes, thank you! After playing for countless hours now, I cringe when I see some of these TH-camrs playing this game like a run&gun fps. As you said, it's digital chess, a thinking game.

Sgt Schultz Brigade Yes it was, thanks again! I believe I'll wait then, still mastering Impossible Ironman mode anyways.
i am glad i could help i hope i can be more helpful in the future
thank you for the nice video and the good laugh at around 9:30 with the sniper. :D
Tell me about it, i get issues with my uploads ;/
Keep up the good work tho mate, loving xcom :) your tips are invaluable :)
im learning the abilitys, that you unlock when you promote them. so hint hint, talk about them some more :)
You can guess sub squad formations.
i would recomend anything that allows you to take an extra turn ((sniper-duoble tap) (assult- run and gun) and the heavys bullet storm)
Just started playing this game and although its a little dated now I totally love it. I have purchased all the add-ons so I can play for longer now.
glad you love this game
Pretty useful at my first playthrough, thanks for that. and another great tip is that you want your men to be near each other but far enough apart so the all don't get hit by a single explosive weapon
Nice tips. Been getting massacred in this game, so I need all the help I can get. Especially the research tips.
Very good job!.... love this game and the fact that it can kick our asses.Without proper tactics it will more often than not.Its nice to have a thinking game for a change too many run and gun brainless shooters...this game is differently not that

thank you i meant personally did you like the video lol i did not think and mean you had to give me a like but i do appreciate that you are going to and i thank you. and i hope to hear from you in the future and hope to see you on my channel again.
The ring represents their reduced line of sight because they are ducking further into cover. I believe.
Wonderful video. Thank you :)

Great advice matey, sub'd :)

mate u should also showed us what r the gear u r wearing do u have a S.C.O.P.E, medikit , alien grenade etc u know what i mean & keep the cool videos coming thumbs up!!!!
ty i appreciate it i have been trying to get more vids out but you tube is giving me a big problem with uploading
agreed i am just giving tips that i feel work and they work for me most of the time. using your own judgement in the given situations is usually the best i am just saying something that i hope helps and i am sorry that it was not able to help
"overwatch... Bam!" Haha fuck yea.
"It's not a run and gun game"
I disagree, all the assault soldiers have the run and gun ability.
but seriously, he's right
Don't forget to not put your squad too close together. The mutons throw grenades and if your squad is too close, you get damaged badly. Good guide though, well done.
Of course. I'm not even doing what he says right now. And actually, it can be useful even though they will not move. It also PREVENTS THEM from moving
i have a basic one on resources management but will go in depth more
What throws me off is the circle that surrounds the soldier. Does it suppose to mean something.
i have a basic one up on resources up on my channel and will probably be doing a more in depth on on the money alone. i hope you liked the video hope to hear from you on my other vids and good luck kicking the alien but
Can't wait to get myself a copy of this game next payday! 2 more weeks seems so far away...
Does hunker down help soldiers near them. I wonder because the ring around confuses me about that.
Dude, please, SLOW DOWN. Plan out your video and the points your going to hit. You fumbled around so much in what you were saying that it became annoying to listen to you blabber on and on and constantly cut yourself off. I couldnt even finish the video
ramblings is what best describes this vid. sometime taking the initiative and pressing the attack is also indispensable.
yup it does but TW is a VERY easy game I cannot even remember a battle I lost playing any version (even with the darth mod).More than anything I like xcom's challenge that makes your tactics actually mean win or loose.
Games today are just way too easy
thx bro i just got the game too👍👌🏽
i am glad i can help i have other and i hope those also help you also. i will be doing more in the future and i hope you see them and they help. hope to hear from you on in future glad you enjoyed it.hope you subscribe and please tell me what you think on my other vids hope to hear from you and good luck fighting those aliens
Overwatch is very, very important.... Thanks, cap'n.
Ahh! The subtle Californian accent. XD
Awesome guide tho. You know what you are doing at least. Every other guide would miss something.
lol i know what you mean lol will be doing more vids on tips and tricks and the best way to take down the aliens i hope you enjoined them. please tell me what you think of it. hope to hear from you again in the future good luck on the difficulty and my you kick some alien ass
#1 sign of a noob is specifically that they recommend overwatch as a tactic, with no other details even.
This is good "in combat tactics" but do you have any tips for after ward back at base and which missions and areas are priority to keep in the good or ok if it goes bad ratio I tried it first won every in combat fight but I lost becouse of the games secondary workings and I let 8 places go hysteric :(

I havent completed it on Ironman mode yet.
I am on game 18.
Take a shot everytime you say "honestly".
In any case good advice for the game.
So i had 3 guys since the begining. Each had like 12 missions alredy and i took on a hard one thinking it was going to be easy anf lost chuck norris, obama, and bruce wills only jason statham survive. Very sad right now.
Hooked on this game
Such is the way of Xcom...
i go back and forth every time i play i tend to be slow and turtle up so i feel armor is the best way to go but going for plasma is not a bad idea i dont remember if you can skip laser i thought they had to be researched before they went to plasma

Can you make a vid. on how to get the best funding I do Excellent on the missions but sucks on the monthly funding.
I hate getting emotionally attached to my guys/gals.
ty
my biggist thing is not this its how to do reserch and WHAT TO. also how to get there. i have good armort but im always lacking good firepower. or all my main peeps are being taken care of for 2 weeks or so cause of this. also i dont know what to build and when since im always in need of cash. and im almust always in need of...
n because of this the mission i had to go onto a flag ship everyone kept dieing b/c they where all rookies but my sniper xD
Great tips, but you should really take some time with your speech. Stumbling over words constantly gets annoying, like a high school presentation or something. Keep up the awesome work and analysis!
0:47 There is a run n gun ability in game
can you do some thing for base stuff? thanks!
Oohh I see. It shows the crossed out eye at the edge. Ok.
im fighting an advanced allien battleship with 23 enemy alliens all machines and mutons. fuckin so hard i swear too god
i am glad you enjoyed the video. =) i will be doing more of them i hope you subscribe and watch them and enjoy them and also the past videos i hope you watch and enjoy them also. =) hope to hear from you again thank you fro the positive comment and the words of encouragement
=) i am glad it helped
Just curious, won the game on normal now trying Ironman classic...its kinda kicking my ass, hence looking at tips videos :P
Dude if you want recording software that's free use OBS you get no annoying water marks on that because its open source
thank you i am glad you enjoyed i will be doing more of these vids i hope to hear your opinion on those also
ty =)
woud this still work with enemy within when you need to be more agreaive for meld?
more aggresive
"this is a computer game" yes, not rocket engineering or brain surgery...
98% and missed. i got the short end of the stick. hard but fair my ass
Sometime take the game slowly, sometime take the game fast, sometime you need to shoot, sometime you need to cover and support. Sounds like all your sentences end with an exclamation mark too. Sometime I like, sometime I don't!!
thank you =) i will be doing more in the future i would like to hear your opinion in the future thanks for the positive comment.
thats the sight..
4:18 best part
no, its everyone within the ring
you should really use supression on your heavys with that overwatch so that if they decide to stay and shoot they are going to miss and if they move then they are guned down by overwatch you are talking about controling the situation but by having everyone stand infront of the aliens with overwatch doesnt always work they could just take a shot so u have to use your flush ability from your assualt and force their movement or supression to make sure if they do stay their aim is bad
What difficulty you playing it on?
yes i can and i am doing =) i hope you like the video. please subscribe and tell me what you think and i hope you enjoy my past and future videos and i hope to hear you again in the future "schultzy"
Also, overwatch tends to pin down a target (in bad cover) that you don’t have a nice hit% on, but someone will next round.
you are welcome
