    I'm with Carn in that melee has to deal with accuracy and so they should get a break with mana costs and scaling. Spell casters should have to take mana because they don't have to deal with accuracy.

      I still dont understand accuracy at all in POE2. it says that its only for projectiles and strikes. But I always hear people talk about accuracy for skills that are ground target aoes (or even slams). and we cant evade those, so why would enemies be able too...?? like i dont understand.
      concoction skills for example, or shockwave totem

    Regarding the character diversity comment and 6 links - I share a similar sentiment but from a different perspective.
    While I viewed skills at the "main" part of my build, I often used ascendancies to make the playstyle unique and different. For example, I could play Arc as totems, crit based, low life, mines - There was even a time when arc was used as a deadeye (with poets pen, years ago) All of these variations caused me to feel like it was different despite being the same skill. How I approached defenses was different, how I scaled damage, the gear I prioritized was all largely based around the ascendency choice and how I was able to make that the core of the build.
    I was considering making a new character the other day in PoE 2 and I thought 'I'd like to try chayula monk, i'll see if I can make the instant mana/es leech viable with a spiral volley/herald of ice build' - I did some research into it and 1 thing I noticed pretty quickly is it was impossible for me to make this work. Why? all instances of mana leech in the game are PHYSICAL damage, I was planning to go almost entirely cold damage for HoI explosions.
    I understand that this is just 1 instance but as Quin said, there's just so many 'obvious' choices that you're dumb not to take. Even if we removed IIR as a stat, and you wanted to play a spellcaster, what ascendency do you go? Stormweaver. Want to play Fire or ignite builds? Sorry no ascendencies for you besides some random stuff like demon form on infernalist. I do agree overall that more things added will help relieve this, but I also believe that this is an intentional design choice.
    It almost feels like if you want to play X skill you have to pick the obvious class linked to it (for example, bows = ranger), then you have to pick the obvious ascendency (deadeye), then you have to pick the obvious gear (+ to skill levels), and this makes it feel all the same. I don't believe this is a meta issue, I believe this is a fundamental lack of ability to experiment with things. Using pathfinder as a direct comparison. In PoE 1, you had some cool stuff, that was all generic and build enabling, you had remove all ailments node so you can avoid needing to get freeze immune, you have increased utility flask effect which made some cool breakpoints with things like dying sun, you had some poison flavour with prolif and wither, some elemental pen if you werent going poison. In PoE 2 you have a little bit of poison stuff, some minor flask stuff (which arent as useful as PoE 1) and some concoction stuff. So if you're going to play a pathfinder in PoE 2, you're pretty much doing it for concoctions, because it offers nothing else really. 5 passive skill points? great, I'd rather have immunity to all elemental aliments when using a flask.
    This feels like a fundamentally different design philosophy, while adding additional classes, ascendancies, skills, etc... will alleviate some of it. Why would I, as an Arc stormweaver, ever use anything except a staff or wand. What if I wanted some extra spirit on my weapon because there's some cool auras id love to use. Spirit can't roll on those weapon bases, so I need to use a sceptre, great now I'm using a sceptre that basically cant roll any stats I need. But I guess 99% of the time this wont be an issue because most auras are so hyper specific in what they do that I cant use them anyway. Want to use Herald of Ice like in PoE 1 with frostbolt? Nope, HoI is attacks only, sorry.
    This for me was a lot of the essence of PoE 1, the fact that we could see insane combinations of things people would never expect. Who would of expected voltaxic rift, a bow (which is intended to attack), to be used with a spell, to alter the damage type to chaos, and then combine that with something insane like a low life berserker, and the same build can go a glass cannon fanaticism inquisitor, or a poison based occultist.
    I believe while everything plays a part in this 'linear' philosophy, auras, gems, mods on gear etc.... I believe ascendancies are the core thing that differentiated builds in PoE 1 due to the power that was in them, but also the fact that they were often build/idea enabling. There is nothing on the blood mage tree for example that makes it stand out, it has some extra crit, some extra life, some leech to stop it killing itself. But the ascendency is just nothing special. In PoE 1 the assassin, while often underused was 'the crit guy' and crit could be used on anything. Blood mage has about 10 layers of bad design and narrow scope that it basically cant be used for anything, despite being the current 'crit guy'

    I don't want a map favorite system but I do want a "hated" map system so I can at least not see the maps that are just genuinely painful to run

      Also, it’s kind of a lazy and rigid design as well. I prefer the poe 1 design of having just +1 (unless using mist) on most items that can roll the stat

      It feels kinda weird for + to minion skill and spirit are the only way to scale minions. But idk how else they would do it

      @@dv2945 agreed. spirit i think is great, as it makes since for witch to be most spirit hungry class, but i have run across so many awsome sceptres in ssf that i would love to use and were PERFECT.... except ofcourse the + to minions wasnt as high. its the fact that it also scales their life incredibly high too.

      @dv2945 thats just how it was in diablo 2.... you needed minion skills to scale minions? And it worked perfectly, + to skills is a thing diablo 2 created and one of the core pillars od build creating in d2, and no its not outdated, diablo 2 is still the best arpg ever made

    honestly the problem with some mods being too strong is that filter system is too basic for that which is tied to identify being an irrelevant mechanic (since you always run with scrolls anyway which are basically free).
    If i could highlight all the boots that drop with movement speed it'd feel way better to me since i'd exclude myself from negative thoughts tied to seeing "yet another trash i picked up". The problem is really too often getting grind interrupted by interacting with complete trash you'd never use. The cycle of "item drops -> identify -> it's trash -> drop it" is far too common and being able to filter things better would be nice.

      Yep. Games like grim dawn and last epoch solved this already. Built in loot filter where you tick exactly what mods you want. Anything comes up on screen you know it will be worth at least picking up and looking at.

      @@WhirlwindMyBeloved You know you can't use filters like Grim Dawn or Last Epoch used bcs of 'identify scrolls'. First thing, the game shoud get rid of that scrolls like it do with portla scrolls. But I think the GGG doesn't do it on purpose. :(

      In a trade economy, there is certainly some benefit to having unidentified items, but it should be limited to uniques.

    What of "+5 to skills is mandatory and better than anything" differs from "+ high flat and %pdps is mandatory" except the fact there is 1 stat vs 2

      What is the difference between caster weapons giving some amount of +gem levels innately on higher tier bases with the modifier you can roll being limited to a smaller number of gem levels and martial weapons having higher base damage on higher level bases except for the fact that one is for spells and the other is for attacks?

      Well you have to consider that flat and % increase are both prefixes and + to level is a suffix.. it forces you to get those 3 scaler to optimize your damage scaling.. look for a +5 to gem without % inc and or flat mana rare wands they are dirt cheap

      I played a lot archetype on ssf so far, I felt melee is the hardest to gear and play, hat off to ssf players that have patience to stick on melee characters at this current build.

      you can get flat damage elsewhere, flat dmg scales linearly, when an additional level is more dmg instead of increased, for example, on my stat stacking witch hunter, I am using a bombard crossbow because it has higher attack speed than forlorn, with phys % because I get flat dmg from HoWa and rings. Another way to think about it, is that its almost like every +1 spell skill lv, is an additional affix for the item.

      Ultimately they should reconsider charges not having passives and put fortify back as a melee only thing
      With those two things bottom right skill tree characters will function

    Biggest issue with movement speed on boots is that bosses gets balanced around it meaning you cant use most of the unique boots in the game at all no matter how good they are since the lack of movement speed will get you killed.
    Maybe the solution would be to make it so the only way for us to get movement speed on boots would be through a special crafting option so that all boots can get it even if they are unique?

      Give movement speed as an implicit, but make it 10-25% depending on item level or base, and then the ability to roll an extra 10% as a hybrid es/ar/ev+move speed roll. That way every boot is good, but can still get better by rolling more movement speed.

    The +x skill affix being so impactful to the point of feeling mandatory is also one of the reasons so many uniques feel lackluster. In PoE 1 even an early garbage tier unique can make leveling much smoother, because it still tends to be a good stat stick and still has the potential to be an exciting drop that way. Them being outclassed by a single affix that can roll on regular gear just feels bad.

    I 100% agree that everything they ported over from PoE1 is what makes PoE2 great, and what makes PoE2 suck is everything they changed after 10 years of experimenting and honing PoE1 they threw half of it away. Quin you're saying wait for Leagues to have crafting added? Why? We literally already fucking had crafting and even if they don't want to add harvest crafting or any of that higher level stuff, why not at least give us the fucking crafting bench so we can fill out an item with at least one mod we want AND why do we not have Scours/Alterations in the game. It's driving me insane that they got feedback and everything for PoE1 and did all this refining and honing and had an amazing game and then threw half of it out and just seems like they're starting from scratch.

      Not going to lie, in PoE 1 I stopped playing because Crafting got too ridiculous and everytime I thought about coming back I wouldn't because I didn't want to learn the crazy complex crafting system PoE 1 had. Not until Ruthless came out and removed the bench did I come back to PoE 1. They have way more data than the avg player does. They probably saw/heard that crafting was driving/keeping players away. It's the only reason I can think that they would remove it.
      Not having alts/scours is a bit of a weird decision though...

    Influenced bases would go a long way to making loot interesting again. Every rare basically looks the same aside from a small amount of stat variance.

    I agree most of it is a balance issue but as for movement speed and the +lvl stats it sure feels like rolling the block chance on a shield that doesn't have any to begin with.
    They a b tested the spawn rate of citadels, maybe they should do the same with items. I mean, their items are textbased so they surely can generate millions of them for a bunch of item level ranges and balance player power around the average stats. Maybe even exclude the outliers like the +lvl from the equation, for good measure.
    The crafting system being absolute gambling wouldn't be so bad if the game is playable with half the possible outcomes anyway.

      Its skill point tax, no one enjoyed spending stupid amount of points traveling too every single life node on their side of the tree. getting all your life from STR and gear is fine, AFTER they balance the insane difference between life and EV/ES

    on my bloodmage, having almost no life on the tree feels really bad since it's basically needed for resource and scaling and will always be squishier than the mom + battery + ci builds

    in the game rn, 100% increased spell dmg is basically 1-2 level of gem depending on your gear. which means the T10 mod is equivalent to a lowest tier +gem. in poe1 you can only get like +2

    I crafted 577 max dmg staff with hundreds of tries and it has +4.9 crit chance suffix, but it is only level 72.

    off the bat: why is there no crafting bench? you don't need league mechanics for a crafting bench...like just make the bench a simpler version of poe 1.

    A big problem with +level for spells is that we have very little ways to add flat damage to a skill, it makes all other sources of inc/more/extra damage that much better on top of being flat-out good, those other mods just aren't good without +levels
    Attack based characters aren't rewarded for building mana at all which make the cost scaling much more annoying
    In general items in poe have always been annoying to roll, with choice mods contributing disproportionately high amounts of power to an item, but we shouldn't keep to that tradition otherwise we run into the age old "no ms on boots? Vendor trash" type of interactions with items

    I had major issues w the crafting system initially; unfortunately the omens are expensive to the point of being prohibitive til you're able to farm large amounts of currency w ease and while it doesn't compare to the depth and complexity of PoE1 it's a decent foundation and I've been able to both craft and improve some incredible items. Nothing like the crafting bench but I believe once more affixes, items and systems come to the game post launch it will only get better from here

    minion need a buff, so it doesn't rely on + minion skill stat, and make +minion skill harder to get, if you get it, it should be like getting a big phys weapon on phys build.

    treating each gem level as 12%/10% flat damage is wrong... spells get their base damage from gem levels so 5 levels to our BASE damage is actually crazy. +10 in total from wand focus amulet you get going from level 20 spark to 30 you are near tripling base damage.

    Two things they should change. #1 Essences should be targeted versions of PoE 1 alterations/chaos orbs. Right now they suck and letting people essence spam a magic base to get say Life affix + 1 would be great. #2 When you open the screen to put in your waystone there should be 3 map layout options to pick from. That way you can avoid the awful ones but there is some variation in running layouts.

    Sunder and perfect strike do "compete" for HOTG. They're just not as good right now. If they just tune those up and get them closer, especially by increasing synergy wth certain playstyles, they have some options there.

    People will hate it but they should absolutely make the + skill levels only go up to 2. 1 is low tier 2 is high tier. Up to 3 for 2h max.
    It's way too overpowered as is to have a place with other stats.

    The strength part of the tree needs some life nodes for sure but also GGG needs to stop holding hostage the life remnants and just make it into a spirit gem and rework Bloodmage entirely . If they do this life builds will have easier time .
    Thenagain , if Grimfeast is mandatory for ES builds right now and let's say we get Life remnants spirit gem that will become mandatory for life builds - shouldn't such gems just be passives for Life and ES as a baseline for the entire game for all classes ? They probably should .

    My wishlist going forward:
    Obviously the new classes thats a given, same with acts 4-6, obviously.
    T A N K. I want to go full plate armor, life and life regen, unkillable wall mode. What RPG doesnt let you just make a wall of a character I mean come on its one of the core archetypes in RPGs.
    A gamba to determinist ratio of like, 60/40 or 50/50. Right now I'd say we're like 90/10.
    More bossing focus in end game. The increase frequency was nice in 0.1.1 but I'd like to see more unique and pinnacle bosses and a greater focus/fleshing out of bossing with increased difficulty and complexity. Like, I'm looking for single player raid fights basically.
    Thats about it? Like theres some build variety problems but I feel like that will be fleshed out with more classes and stuff and end game will get more love with more leagues so like... I mean the game is in an amazing state already so yeah, there's not much needed for me to One Game it at this point.
    Oh, optimization. The stutters are pretty rough and really noticeable on maps like waterways in act 3 in the campaign.

    The real reason GGG took life off nodes is because they needed to train people on how to scale EHP new people and old hp andy's. But now CI is so good because it protects you from bleed, poison, and chaos, Thats going to be a hard thing to give up for alot of people.

      Looks like someone forgot that Defences are meant to protect Life. Defences are designed to be able to be defeated. If you can't scale Life, then Defences are worthless. The only exceptions are static "Defences" (Not classified as Defences) like Block and Resistances.
      This is why ES is such a problem. The bone-headed devs won't admit that it's just blue Life ever since PoE1 Beta. It is overpowered in comparison to the two other Defences it is apparently a sibling to.
      It has no equivalent to Armour Break or Blind (It would be ES Penetration), it has absurd scaling, and its "weaknesses" are addressed by the nodes you would get anyway because they are also the most efficient. It also gets 50% Stun Avoidance for free, despite Armour not getting Bleed Avoidance or Evasion rolling for Ailment confirms. Don't forget that as well as being a Resource, it gets Overflow mechanics as well.
      They have learned no lessons at all. And sorry about the rant.

    Personally, I was never a fan of PoE 1 crafting, always felt like arpgs should make sure there is a strong dopamine effect of good loot drops with a pace like Diablo 2. Crafting in PoE 1 always felt like a Diablo 2 item\hero editor which kind of kills the magic for me.

      hard disagree. d2 progression relies heavily on runewords, they prodive deterministic affixes and are way more powerful than rare gear, your "good loot drops" are just runes, not the rares. It makes progression in d2 wildly erratic as well. meanwhile poe allows players to incrementally progress through crafting, from covering weaknesses to making insane items

      Magic Find is only impactful until you start juicing, then its not needed. MF is just a bait stat, or a stat to help people who don't know how to/want to juice. Just make a good enough character that can juice all your maps with 0 MF or play your bad character with tons of MF and you dont have to juice your maps at all. Less loot but also you dont have to worry about anything juicing wise. Removing MF does nothing really except make it so all the bad characters are actually just bad and you should only really play OP builds. At least with MF you can have fun with a sub optimal build and still get decent loot without having to juice.
      On a side note if your bad character is still bad even with 0 MF at endgame so you feel you can't sacrifice the gear to get MF gear then the problem is not the game, it's the player/build.

    Hate PoE1 crafting since it's wayyyyyy too much but... taking away things like scours was a mistake. ID scroll lotto problem is a bigger problem than scouring to try again on a craft since you're farming a million bases now instead of needing one decent one. Scours should be brought back and that alone does a lot for inventory space and the general feels-bad of crafting right now where you brick an item and throw it away to roll a new one you have sitting around otherwise you have to go farm for a million more bases.
    But yeah there's a lot of problems with PoE2 right now. I would list them but holy hell it's a big list. We'll see where the game goes but right now meh... I don't really want to play.

      How I feel about poe1 crafting is, the end goal and getting your item made feels great, the journey and process for doing so did not always feel great, and this was mostly due to how disjointed it could all feel. So for me it's a love/hate thing.
      I would love for scours to come back though. I agree on this.
      And for sure there are a lot of problems right now with PoE2. I do believe things will improve, but I do think it's going to easily take 1-2 years for it to vastly improve. I doubt there is going to be MASSIVE improvements in 4-5 months time, I could absolutely be wrong though. But I have no problems being patient, there are plenty of other things for me to do and play in the meantime as well. I went into this knowing full well what to expect with the EA, and I do like the game. But definitely needs work, which it will get.

    I'm okay with no life on the tree. There is no "perfect" ARPG, there is just an ARPG that is good at what IT does. And POE2 should not be POE1. And besides, the more they make POE2 like POE1 the worse it will be, because it'll just be a worse version of it until they are exactly the same, because POE1 is great. I would be okay with some life nodes on the tree, but few and far inbetween, but I'm also fine with it not on there.
    And Quins right, they tried to normalize things so they could balance better. There is absolute 0 balance in POE1 aside from the very very very end game. Balance does strangulate a game if it's done too hard, but that will be impossible for POE 1 or 2. There's far too many variables, it's literally impossible. Therefore their best attempt is the optimal solution.

    I really hope the address the crafting system, its garbage: there is no player agency at all, they even needed to reverse their position on ruins, to give player agency. D4 and LE have figured this out, they can do much better.
    I do not like mapping because of the negative effects that you have no agency on countering. I think there is a better way balance these by doing other things then you loose res + ele dmg - recoup (life/es). for me these are not fun mechanics. The one shot mechanics along with of the severe penalty for death, its not fun and I don't want to run maps for the penalties alone. Loose all the loot and EXP is devastating, have not played in almost 3 weeks after leveling all characters.
    There is a HUGE error in their logic in regards to energy shield, this should be in place of life NOT in addition to. The way it is will be a disaster for balancing. Stupid choice on how ES is implemented.

    Hot take from a new player stuck andy: with how random the crafting is (at least, crafting options to make it less random are prohibitively expensive), I don't think the first modifier added to a Rare should cost 1 Exalt. I think it should cost less than 1 ex but more than 1 Regal. Currently, due to this cost, 99% of items are trash not even worth getting 6 modifers to see the full potential because you already know the item is not worth 1 ex or 2 ex. I know the rng might allow a god roll that makes a 2 ex investment worth dozens of ex (or even 1+ div), but it means that you can only really start crafting when exalts are already trivial for you to farm. It makes the barrier to entry for trading too high for people who aren't already arpg vets, or simply trying to produce decent gear for low levelling without just relying on uniques/twink gear.
    Exalts being used as currency for most people basically suffocates the ability to actually "craft" with them.
    Given how high items can sell for, I don't think making rares cost 1 less exalt to craft would hurt too much.

    Ghazz/DM's last interview GGGesusonathan and his pal both said they're firmly on the slot machine side of 'crafting' over players having direct control over whats happening. PoE2 crafting at least in their first go is going to be pure gambling unless people crap the bed over it enough. League mechanics will have gambling systems in place which will be the only way to get X type of mod (so they have stuff you cant get elsewhere), but they specifically stated determinism is not the direction they want to go in.

    People like to whine about the crafting system but I don't think crafting should be deterministic at all, it fucking defeats the whole purpose of the game if you can just easily cherry pick exactly what you want your item to have. Would make every single other item entirely useless and worthless.
    Phys damage is not the same as spell level, a weapon can have more or less phys damage bonus and still be good, any wand without +5 (i.e. perfect roll) on skills is actually worthless and useless, trash item, worth less than 10ex even with perfect rolls.
    WTF is this guy on the video going on about? the reason people all use the same skills isn't because of "6 links" (also why are people unable to adapt to new terminology? there's no such thing as a "6 link" in poe2 it's just 5 slots, there's no "6" anything to it, it grinds my gears), it's because 90% of the skills suck ass so you're going to end up using the 2 or 3 that actually do anything. Find me anyone literally ANYONE seriously using contagion or essence drain as their main skill? You can't because their damage sucks and they don't scale well into late game. I play a Witch, if I want to play the witch skills I either do minions, which largely means archers because the others are a bit iffy, or hexblast because all other DPS skills are a meme, both too slow for clearing and too slow for bossing because the DoTs don't stack on single target so you deal no damage.

They still will use the best skill for single target dps, and that makes the bossing the same for every build archtype.       There IS no point. Saying that you should have less options and have only one usable skill and then gimp all your other skills by having less slots on them is a bottom tier design choice IMO. How are you going to argue that less freedom in skill choice is better... The most boring part of PoE has always been that the top builds are always 1 button mashers, and this guy is "yeah you should only ever be able to make one single skill relevant in your build, being able to use more than 1 skill makes all builds bad".

    imagine getting enough decent gear/currency to make it through the campaign, I cant, I got like 1 exalt and barely any usable rares after like a day and 3 characters.
