Cooking The Traditional Way for the Christmas Feast🇫🇯

- In this vlog we follow how Navuti Village celebrates Christmas. It is Christmas Day and the men and boys are preparing food to cook in the traditional Fijian way called lovo. Lovo is an underground oven which food are cooked on heated stones then the food is covered in leaves to protect the food from the soil that the oven is going to be covered in. Here we follow how my family does it.
My momo was not happy when he woke up in the morning and the young boys were not at the lovo ready to prepare it so he had to take the lead by himself. After that we went up to the next village to buy some potatoes because the women said that the potatoes were short in order to make chicken curry.
Before the family meets together and eat for lunch the church service comes first. After the church service the women prepares the lunch and make it all ready for the family. Then lunch can begin.
After lunch people rest and in the late afternoon the family meets up for grog session in order to end the day and enjoy each others company in the last hours of Christmas.

I still remember doing lovo especially with taro, very itchy to handle but very nice to eat after lovo cooking, for us we use coconut husk and coconut shell to heat the stone. Until very red… I remember the stone explode since it’s new stone. We put taro leaves in coconut milk and chicken… it’s very nice brother still remember it until now. I made the videos on lovo too just to cherish the memories there.. and after all the food… just sleeping and KAVA hehe

I have very fond memories of BBQ in Fiji. My favorite meal has freshly caught and killed wild boar washed down with plenty of bounty rum poured from a metal kettle lol

Uraia spent most of his life in Denmark since childhood. Hence, he is Danish of citizenship before moving to Fiji.
