@@8bitkron1k38 You can feel however you want to feel about a game, but you are mistaken if you believe it is widely liked now. Looking at Steam, it has worse reviews on average on Recent (69%) than the All Reviews (75%), which include the earlier, arguably worse days of the game. In other words, Fallout 76 is marginally MORE HATED now than before, not less.
If you think it's good now, that's fine, but you are simply wrong about "the haters" liking it now. I'm looking at the arithmetic, not your anecdotal experience with these alleged haters on whatever subreddit you're talking about. It's not an old take, it's one of the most common (and recent) takes. If I were to compare this to an actual instance of a game being rough at launch but coming into its own, No Man's Sky, the Recent reviews are much better (91%) than All Reviews (77%).
Second, don't reply to my reply with your completely unrelated bad take so that I will notice it and/or reply. Either your comment will stand on its own, or it won't. Don't game the system. Only time I'll tell you. Congrats, you got me to reply, but all this did was point out that you are mistaken. Your opinions are your opinions, but your assertion about its widespread acclaim is easily disproved.

Oddly, Metallica has made quite a comeback among several teenagers I know. They're going through the same fascination with Metallica I went through at their age, as my gateway into heavier music.

    • @jvondd
      @jvondd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Honestly, St. Anger is their only dud. Everything else they've done since the Black Album has actually been pretty decent, and a few songs are among their best work.
What bothers me is that ever since St. Anger, they've been chasing past glories and trying to make the same kind of music they used to make in their early 20s. While it hasn't necessarily been bad, it does signify a lack of growth and expansion of their sound. Say what you want about Load and Reload, but at least they were able to step out of their comfort zone and take some risks knowing that it might alienate metal purists. Nowadays it feels more like Metallica is just giving the fans what they think they want rather than expanding as artists.
That being said, I don't begrudge them their success, and when considering how close it all came to an end in the early 2000s, I can't really blame them for wanting to preserve their meal ticket.

Great games with great soundtracks, but for some reason this just worked well for me. 18:20 Ooof, that was me when I finished The Silmarillion. I ALMOST cried when I finished Lord of the Rings but held it together only to find out some weeks later that there was a prequel book that told the whole history of Middle Earth, and it was when I finished reading THAT and realized there weren't any more completed tales of that land that hadn't been polished up by Christopher Tolkien that I wept because there was no further arc for any of the characters, that was all there would ever be of the official canon. Mood frfr. Finishing FF7 was a little bit like that too: I was hooked on that game and did EVERY. SINGLE. QUEST. Doubled all the materia, beat every boss, fought all the Weapons, got my characters so OP'd that I could beat Ruby Weapon on auto-pilot (literally just set up Phoenix on Mimic and then let the game play itself for 10 minutes until Ruby was dead).

I recently gave up on a romantic interest. Many factors contributed to my decision, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was when discussing Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I was talking about how impactful the use of leitmotifs in the soundtrack was when he dropped the bomb that he was playing with the sound off. No music. No voice.
As someone who occasionally plays through games with custom playlists, I wanted to respect his decision. Not everyone will resonate with the soundtrack, but it was his unwillingness to even attempt to listen that gave me the ick.

Back in the maybe 2004, when I was in my late teens, one of the first things I ever bought off Amazon was the Queen album A Night at the Opera. When it arrived, to my dismay I discovered it wasn't a CD like I expected, but a DVD-Audio disc, something I didn't even know existed before that. I didn't have a DVD-ROM drive in my PC at the time, so the only way I could listen to it was through my TV, and I was also in the middle of playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the first time, so I plugged the DVD player into the audio jack and the Playstation in the video jacks and it became the new soundtrack for that game, just playing on repeat throughout any play session. It fit pretty well!
I don't think I heard SotN's native soundtrack until the last time I replayed it in 2018.

I wholeheartedly advocate cacophony mode. In-game music at 50%, after I'm used to it, is a perfect thematic joint to any genre of music. Sound effects 100% obviously.
It's musically fascinating to follow the tempo mismatches weave together and apart. This often serendipitously creates new cords out of microtonals within the resonances, and is at worst on par with relaxing to lofi beats in/or a moderately noisy cafe. Game soundtracks are inobtrusive enough to layer, so long as they're sorta mixed downwards.

i always play a game with its music first, so it can hit if it hits, so many iconic hits for me, Run from hotline Miami 2, the boss music fighting Gwyn in DS1, the music right after watching the tape in Silent Hill 2, the CHILLS, but Night Wish Angel to love while fighting kaelthas in WoW BC is it for me!

I love how you've edited the music to fade in as you reference it. It's such a small detail, but it really helps "immerse" me in these play sessions which could have been.
🎵🎶 Much respect! Keep fighting the good fight!

Haven't even watched the video yet, BUT:
    1) Yes I do listen to my own music most of the time, partially because of tinnitus (or podcasts if it's not an audio dialogue driven game).
    2) I immediately had a smile on my face, having read your post about burning out on the tough stuff.
    3. I hope you're well.

As a teenager I was delighted to discover that Quake 1’s “CD soundtrack” feature didn’t care what CD was in the drive. Each stage of the game is now indelibly connected to a specific track in “The Miracle” by Queen.

A great example of a game that pairs music with game events is Saints Row 4, from Thin Lizzy's "The Boys are Back in Town" for Johnny Gat's loyalty mission to Stan Bush's "The Touch" for when you finally get power armor near the end to rip Zinyak a new one, there are great moments of gameplay paired with music..

my 2 favorite games to play music over are Superhot, and Descenders. Superhot can trake almost any music and turn it around, free jazz, metal, ambient, all gives it a totally different mood. Descenders is amazing for really energetic music, flying downhill on a bike at fullspeed to anything high tempo jsut feels nuts, more midtempo stuff can be nice for jsut relaxing and trying out some tricks. Oh and Tony Hawk and Skate are great for putting on rock/punk/ska/metal/hip hop

I have a vivid memory of being 20 years old in early 2017 playing battlefield 1 around the same time my friend from college had recommended me Weezer's blue album. I didn't usually play the game with music because I was pretty sweaty and it was much harder to hear gun shots and foot steps with music, but on this particular day I was only flying planes. I remember the map. It was Ballroom Blitz, I remember blowing up my first tank ever in an attack plane while "In the Garage" played. Every time I hear that song, no matter what I'm doing or where I am, part of me is back on Ballroom Blitz, flying that plane around.
The first time I listened to DSOTM I was building a castle on Minecraft in its beta in 2011. "On the Run" still reminds me of building that castle to this day. There are some albums I used to play while I was raiding in world of warcraft, like Soundgarden's Down on the Upside, or RHCP's Blood Sugar Sex Magik. All that said, I have attachments to these games' original sound tracks too. I can remember my first world on minecraft, listening to the original music, trying to learn how to build my first house and make basic tools. Later in life, I began listening to lectures on youtube, and video essays while I would play games, but certain games dont fit with that.
When I play Baldur's Gate 3, i never have anything else playing because the dialogue and frequent text use too much of the brain to be able to focus on both at once. But if I'm playing an MMO and mindlessly grinding away on daily quests ive done 50+ times, my brain is barely even engaged and I can fully listen to something playing at the same time. There are sections of the world map in World of Warcraft that remind me of certain lectures and tv shows, just due to how the brain can engage its left and right half in tandem to form memories.

Yes! Adding my own soundtrack to repeat play throughs of a game is one of my favorite things to do. It forever links those songs to the energy of the gameplay, and vice-versa.
One of my favorite audio/video concoctions that I’ve stumbled across was playing Elden Ring to the tune of the Yellow Magic Orchestra discography. Caelid with Tong Poo was an absolutely luminous combination.🤩

You know Black Mages has a full rock version of the opera from 6 in Japanese, composed by Nobuo Uematsu? It's actually really good. I still have that bitch on my shuffle playlist.
Every time it comes on, I take it as a sign that I need a break, so I play some ad hoc karaoke and sing along. Yes, I _can_ sing in Japanese. No, I do not speak the language. Personally, I blame Utada Hikaru.

This made my brain happy. In the best way. And hadn't even realised I needed to travel back to early video game disruption. To just hear those sounds, and hear you explain the thinking, and the "taste' which is ultimately what this is. Sensory seeking at its best and still a part of my toolkit.
Despite not being much of a gamer I did always love watching a game flow and curating a musical selection that worked. Always having a couple of options. The first time I asked my older brother if I could try something with audio, that maybe the repetition of part of the soundtrack was why he kept getting stuck and annoyed and was starting to get annoyed before got to that part. He both denied getting annoyed and humoured me, as any sibling 4 years older, who has permitted a little sister to sit in corner of their room and self soothe while watching play video games will. Despite me being branded as "difficult" he never did. If a 13 year old will allow an almost 9 year old to hang out, that's ultimate affection.
He humoured my first recipe, was surprised but also knew making a big deal would overload me... but he played longer and got past the hard bit. So get trying combinations, and loved it

Funny you made this because to this day I will still get hit with nostalgic waves of when I first played Dark Souls on Xbox 360 and would run various albums of music, across wide swatchs of genres, for hours during my plays. Good times. Also during the first Saints Row and Halo Reach. Those were very lovely evenings
