And speak of pessimism at times but if you watch them, they are very optimistic. They just refused to be manipulated by a federation that pisses on their shoe and tries to convince them its rain. I'm totally with you Jake! On the rest of it too ❤️‍🔥 I feel *exactly* as you do and I'm glad you said it using your full range of expression 😉
    The worst betrayal for me is that over say the last 2 international windows we've seen these *glimpses* of what this team *could* be. The chemistry between Gio and Haji. Puli's individual brilliance. Ream's stone cold defensive confidence. Our fire in the midfield. But even after some of the best moments I was never able to trust that we wouldn't get embarrassed again by Greggg's incompetence.
    Berhalter's superpower is blame deflection, so your choice of the term "gaslit" is perfect. He *is* a narcissist. But I could accept that if he were actually any good. He's not.

      True. But, on the other hand, this is exactly what I felt about the team pretty much the entire period from 2011 to 2017 when the program finally collapsed. I've felt mostly good about the last six years compared to the prior period.
      Berhalter for the first time in the job failed to meet the minimum required expectations. He deserves to be dismissed.
      But I figure its only about 50% chance that it will get better once he's fired or resigns. There is some lucky MLS team that will pick Gregg up. But there just aren't a lot of great choices for a coach that are realistic and available right now. I don't foresee the team even having a coach until early next year if they release him now.

It's the quality of training, not the number of youth being trained. We need to focus on recruiting socioeconomically disadvantaged youth--we owe it to them and these youth have much more ambition/drive. MSL/USSF needs to comply with FIFA RSTP solidarity payment guidelines, so that US youth soccer development can shift from the short-term goal of extracting fees from parents to the long-term goal of actually developing youth skills/knowledge (This actually will make $$$$$$$$$ in the long term). The rehiring process in particular was insane and reminiscent of a lot of what the worst organizations in the NFL and NBA will do where they had some chump who's been recycled a multitude of times and the organization settled on 6 months before the process even began rather than keeping yourself open to options.
    Sorry the world's been getting to you man! Ain't got much to say to be positive about cause you're absolutely not wrong and I'm impressed you were able to keep it to that cause man does it get easy to spiral. Keep your head up though, USMNT and the world as a whole can and will get better.
    Not even gonna get into the refereeing on Uruguay, was a twist of a knife on top of the team not even playing up to the standard we think they can.

    Big up and well said on the state of the world side comment. Soccer or Football are one of the few escapes we get from the rigors of the world and even that is in flux. Also I would add that it's not only shameful, it is embarrassing the direction we put forth in this game. The US Soccer Federation is in a very similar place as our nation. It is not in a good place and certainly plays a part in this debacle we are faced with in finding some stability. Onwards and Upwards to my fellow USMNT supporters and I wish you well.

    As a Canadian fan this is what I've learned about international soccer. Expect a clown show when it comes to officiating and tournament organizing. Expect to be disrespected by every country you play against and even the ones you don't play against. Expect the worse possible conditions, accommodations, schedule, and anything else that could give you a disadvantage thats in someone else's hands. Then when you overcome all of that you get to watch youtube videos where everyone says you're still no good.

Questioning what kinds of plauers we should allow on the squad. To now having a "stacked" roster and a golden generation just for them to fall short. Over. And over. The coddling of the modern american athlete must stop. We shouldn't care that players like pulisic and turner like gregg. Its about results. Theres no way getting grouped is acceptable on home soil. And we have beaten teams with less talent. Mexico in the world cup. Spain in 2009 come to mind. Theres 0 reason why this shouldve happened. Cant fire the players. So the coach must. Go. In group stage, the US was on par with Iran. That didn't shake you? Jake - what's the deal with McKennie, Adams, and Reyna? Are they a good midfield trio? Do they understand each other's roles and do they have good interplay together? It seems like we have 3 guys with great individual attributes but they don't combine well. Every time I see McKennie on the ball I'm hoping his tenacity and athleticism will lead to something good. I'm never thinking he's going to orchestrate a 3-pass combo that will release Pulisic down the wing for a 1v1 opportunity. A lot of pundits are saying we need to score more goals/score more often. Do we have midfielders who can do their part to create frequent scoring chances? I don't think Adams or McKennie are expected to do that at their clubs. And Reyna trains in a club environment, but doesn't play, so he certainly isn't expected to carry an offensive load. If this is our midfield trio in 2026, will we be able to score goals?

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What makes you think they have great individual attributes ass opposed to merely OK?
      McKennie in particular is almost impossible to fit into any team in a productive manner. He's not a reliable defender, but at the same time he can't score with his feet. You don't want him as a box to box because he can't score from outside the box, and you don't want him as a six because his judgement is poor. And he's not great as a #10 because his distribution isn't great. Also he's prone to getting out of shape.
      Adams is the best of the three, but he's injury prone and neither fast nor strong. Plus sometimes he gets over committed and doesn't track back quick enough.
      And Reyna has tons of skills but the mental capacity of a 10 year old. I am resigned to the fact that at this point he will always be no more than just wasted potential.
      I think you are starting to understand the problem with the team when you ask, "who can do their part to create frequent scoring chances?"
      You really need to ask that question about the whole team. We don't have a reliable international quality #9. Both Balogun and Pulisic are players that are really only as good as the players around them. They aren't players that frequently create chances on their own. And Weah is so unreliable at finishing that he's now relegated to fullback duties for his club. He only sparkles on the USMNT because we are overall so unathletic and Weah is at least a decent athlete.
      Berhalter deserves to be dismissed for this performance, but a coaching change isn't going to fix the fundamental problems.

    • @JakeLandau
      @JakeLandau  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      McKennie picked a crazy time to have one of his worst string of performances. If we could have played Panama over it should have been Adams Musah Reyna or Johnny.

    I wish at least one player from USMNT just shows some raw emotion in a post game interview showing how much they just hate and detest losing. Show that passion. Show that desire. Bring that fire. Guys like Dempsey, Jermaine Jones, Tim Howard, had that intensity and just hatred of losing that i just dont see current guys having. And i dont mean complaining to a ref. I mean, in an interview and just sheer passion that they love this game and will do everything they can to win. I just dont feel that with these guys.

    • @KenDaKingArrives
      @KenDaKingArrives 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because we don't have any "winners" in the squad, except Pulisic for his UCL victory. Some of the guys won other cups but I don't care much about those. In short, most of them don't know what it's like to win anything, except the meaningless concacaf trophies. This is another problem with not having players at the top clubs in the world that actually win things of significance. Besides not having the top competitive experience, they know no one will take them seriously if they talk about hating losing. I wouldn't. So they don't bother talking about it, and they shouldn't.

    Offside take:
    The VAR team looks at all camera angles and frames, not just the one used by the broadcast.
    They have a tool that draws the lines based on the dimensions of the view (the "not parallel" argument is ridiculous as this is factored in by the software)
    There are limitations with certain angles and quality, but because of those limitations VAR needs to consider the complete range of frames where the header may be in contact, in this case, it is likely the first frame of the header
    The presented "Frame" shows (1) contact with the ball, (2) the backmost US player, and (3) the foremost Uruguayan player. when a line drawn between 2 & 3 does not show any part of the Uruguayan past the line - VAR does not have a "clear and obvious" argument to challenge the call on the field. Even If the following 2/3 frames demonstrate a clear offside, it doesn't override the fact that there was at least one frame, from one camera angle that demonstrates onside.
    That's how "clear and obvious" works: American's can stop crying about it.

  • @djhz2001
    @djhz2001 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Berhalter was not going to be fired regardless of what happened at Copa America, and he won't be after this. Eric Wynalda said so a few days ago, and I think this is something we all knew deep down. Also, having slept on the results, notice that Panama scored a total of 6 goals on the group stage. The USMNT only scored 4. Leaving the US vs Panama game out of the equation because of the red card, Panama scored 4, the USMNT only 2. The USMNT, for all the possession they had against Bolivia, only managed to score 2, while Panama scored 3 against the same opponent. I think this has to be one of the key takeaways from the USMNT participation in this tournament. On the USMNT vs Panama, see that Chile held Canada to a draw despite Chile playing with 10 for most of the match, yet being the gap in individual player quality between the USMNT and Panama wider than any between Chile and Canada, the USMNT let Panama have 75% of possession and lost the match. Chile and Canada ended up fairly close in possession even when Chile were playing with 10. Finally, for all the complaints about the refereeing, which was bad, the only thing that could have changed the match against Uruguay was a yellow card against Adams that I think it shouldn't have been. The truth of the matter is that the USMNT produced an xG of 0.29 in this last match, while Uruguay produced an xG of 1.41. As for the Uruguay goal, I also thought it was offside, until I saw the lines drawn. People may complain about the technology not being the latest, just like the US was complaining about the pitch at Trinidad & Tobago in 2017 just before they were left out of the 2018 World Cup, but everyone is playing with the same technology in this tournament, and if you ask me, after seeing the review, it was goal.
