Jlawball, John Jones is exactly right. This is definitely NOT a step back. His pivot foot remains planted. It’s actually a terrible move w bad balance on the J but it’s Lebron and he’s 6’8 and that’s why he gets it off.
Jlawball What you are instructing is a step back & a better move
Sonny Flexchild some of them he retains his pivot placement, and some he adjusts his pivot/reaches for space...just like on some step backs you reach for minimal space and some maximum space...either way, a “step back” is an umbrella of moves that involve coming back to space in order to create separation...which he did lol 👍

LeBron doesn't actually stepping back looks more like a pullback to me. And you are mixing step back and side step lol! I love the yeezys on the floor, looks more realistic than those stupid cones!👍
I don’t think that how you do it cuz it not even a step back. From the highlight you see Lebron with the lazy dribble looking down to confuse the defender as soon as he have space he snatch the ball back into rhythm and shoot it😶
Multiple variations of a step back, my man...biggest thing to look is that he brings ball and body back to space to create separation...aka a “step back.” Hope that helps! God bless!

Lebron lets the ball float, drops and then brings his front foot right next to his back foot to take the shot. He does not hop back, notice in his videos he does not hop anywhere in the move
By letting the ball float, looking at the ball and then suddenly dropping, he sells the drive for the defender, then the defender drops back to stop the drive and lebron simply brings his front foot back and sets for the shot

That’s not what LeBron does. You can clearly see that LeBron does a step forward not moving his pivot and then brings the foot back into an often fade away. It’s really not a step back at all. It’s faking the drive really.
