  • This supplemental lecture was recorded LIVE during one of my classes. In this lecture, I demonstrate how to use the PEER NGA West2 online database to search for and scale time histories. The portal to the PEER NGAWest2 database can be accessed here: ngawest2.berkeley.edu/
Remember that the NGA West2 database algorithm does not allow you to download your own rotated or averaged time history records. If you want to develop rotated or averaged time histories, you will have to rotate/average them on your own.

This is a great tutorial. However, the Spectral Ordinate is computed at the spectrum level, not at the record/acceleration level. So the SRSS is the SRSS of psaH1 and psaH2 (the maxima of each response). Same with the RotDs, these are the values for the response, not the ground motion. I hope this is clear. I recommend reading the PEER report

There was no financial support to rotate the records to Fau;t-Normal/Fault-Parallel components. The building code requires you to scale the records using the Max-Component, RotD100, so you want to use that for your spectral ordinate. you will still be downloading H1 and H2....

You should not be comparing H1 to your CMS, which is based on RotD50 (or Max-Component)

The are not unprocessed, raw time histories, they have been carefully processed by the PEER team.

Can u explain to me about the srss and h1 and h2 things?? Isnt the srss is sqrt(h1^2+h2^2) ?? And.. do we only need the H1 and H2 for computing the timehistory

@@christianjun6393 in the tool, the SRSS is the sqrt(max_H1^2 + max_H2^2), which is not the same as the maximum over time. the max(sqrt(h1^2+h2^2)) gives you the maximum response, which is equivalent to the RotD100. the two terms are equal when the two maxima occur at the same time, which we cannot assume. :)

    Hello
after we select data and go to seismosignal we will get all we said , but the question which one I am going to use in analysis and desgin
can I use pesdue acc as response spectrum , or response time history as a function for time histoy analysis, or shall I use correction value for time history ?????

    Hello sir, very nice tutorial!
Can one use MS excel to scale the acceleration time histories?
Is it as simple as multiplying every accel record with the scale factor?
    Thank you very much..

Nice video! But I dont know what should I do with the raw datas. I downloaded the file, but i have 5 datas in a row. How can i plot the graph in excel? And should I multiply the raw datas with the scale factor? And what if there is no given scale factoor? Thanks your answer!
