  • Picked up this Mini Excavator Hydraulic Thumb kit on eBaY to install on the Deere 27D. The installation came with a few unexpected surprises but in the end feels like the arm I never had.

I just installed a thumb on my New Holland E27sr mini, I set my auxiliary pressure to 1800 lbs, if you didn't set yours already, it's a good idea so your bucket doesn't over power the thumb piston, and bend it bud. I hope your still enjoying your machine!! 👍

Thanks for the video! I'm considering this same thumb kit. How is it working out 2 years later?

Can you provide the link to the parts you used. I tried looking for OX Attachments and AUX Attachments on eBay, but couldn't find it. Also, how did you know this part would fit your JD 27D?

How much weight can that setup lift? I’m looking to get a 27d to move 2000 pound logs , is that unrealistic?

Held close to the machine, it might work but the whole rig only weighs 6500 lbs so probably too small. You should be able to find a load capacity chart at various reach distances and heights online.

I recently installed a thumb manufactured by Amulet and they state that unless you cut the relief pressure on the aux valve to 2100 psi you void the warranty on there cylinder. Just saying. Plus I installed a flow control valve on the thumb to control the speed. Machine still handles the 3" brush cutter just fine. P.S. I also use Teflon tape, just careful not to put it forward of the threads.

Good idea on the flow control valve. Both thumb and tilt bucket are incredibly fast. Got a link to the valve you used?

I bought a thumb for mine but i dont have the quick connectors included...do you have the connector model, or are those standard?
Thanks for the video, very helpful.

They’re standard flat face couplers same as used on skidsteers.

What kit did you use? I am looking at the OX.

Was wondering the same thing. He said "Ox" around 8min mark

Not sure if you knew but should never use Teflon tape on hydraulic systems, if any gets into the system can damage pumps, and valve spools

I’ve heard that. Tape is supplied with a lot of hydraulic equipment. I actually prefer to use recor-seal #5 when I think of it. Never had a problem with tape causing any problems though. Try not to overlap the end of the male part. Have you ever run across a failed part with Teflon gunk stuck in it?

You can use teflon tape, you just should start the wrap a few threads up so you don't risk a piece of tape breaking off in the line. Unfortunately he risked just that problem around 10:00, but it will probably be okay.
