- The 2. Bundesliga has been described as the most underrated and exciting league in Europe... So we thought it's time us English fans watched a live game in Germany. So far I've seen Bundesliga matches, as well as lower leagues, but never a 2. Bundesliga match... UNTIL NOW. And what better stadium to visit than Arena AufSchalke (the Veltins Arena) as Schalke regularly get over 61,000 fans watching them play in Germany's 2nd division. Today they play Darmstadt who finished bottom of the Bundesliga last season and have struggled so far this season. Schalke vs Darmstadt - most of us predicted a home win, but none of us predicted Schalke 3-5 Darmstadt ...WOW!

Going from Schalke-Darmstadt to Bochum-Kiel will make you realise that 2nd Bundesliga is superior.
Wer kennt es nicht, der krasse Support wenn Elversberg, Paderborn, Fürth, Regensburg oder Ulm mit tausenden zu Gast sind. So kann man sich jedoch das Versagen der ganzen von Steuergeldern finanzierten „großen“ Vereine schönreden 😂

That's crazy in it's own right. The stadium used to host the biggest game in club football. And Schalke until not too long ago were solid contenders every season to make it out of UCL group stages and an opponent to take serious, even for the biggest teams on earth...
Now it's hosting 2nd league matches and they were at times fighting relegation to 3rd league last year already. And with the start to the season, it looks like that will once again be likely what this season will be about, rather than going for promotion.
And still, it's full every home game... Just mad.
I have no idea what Florian Kofeldt gave his players in the cabin, but it must have been something strong. At the same time our players completely forgot how to play football in the second half. I was in N5 Row 8 in the Norkurve and everybody was pissed at how easily they gave their lead away. We have been through so much shit in the last years and now with all tose bad games recently, it was no surprise that everyone was extremely pissed at the players. I still hope that you had a great time here. We hope to see you soon at more games here. But hopefully with much better results.
I have also met plenty of schalke fans from around the world inside the stadium. From the USA, Venezuela, Austria, Norway, China and even coutries like South Africa i have met all kinds of fans. Which is pretty surprising for us since we dont really play great football here, but once you fall in love with the club, there is no turning back i guess. There is also an english schalke fanclub, of which i forgot the name sadly. These guys come over for every single homegame, some of them are even season ticket holders, which are hard to get here and it can take up to 10 years to get one. They told me that it is much cheaper for them to come to germany and watch games here than in england. They told me, that even how bad the games get here, it will always be more fun to watch schalke than any premier league game, since the culture around the games is so vibrant.

Football is an error game, and second league means, more errors. But that the craziness, I think this football is closer to the legendary times of 60/70 of last century, with their glorious legends, when football simply did more errors.
Having been to both Bundesliga 1 and 2 games I have no doubt German football is on a different level to England. I have been to Schalke and the fanaticism is off the scale. Mind you, smaller Bundesliga 2 clubs are just as passionate.

Really great video. You have also chosen a special game 😂 Even if I'm not really impartial as a Hertha Berlin fan, you should watch a game at the Olympiastadion. The stadium is really fascinating and the atmosphere is also first class. Last year we had an average attendance of just under 51,000, which is really strong for us. In general, the 2 Liga is full of big clubs that are worth a visit. HSV, Schalke, Köln & Hertha all have over 5,000 average away fans this season.
Hertha were our "original" club back in 2006 when we visited Berlin with our schools 😅 drifted away from German football until earlier on this year and now there's no looking back! Feel right at home in Germany watching passionate football!
@@RysFootyParadise Great. When you're done with the 2 Liga, you have to take a look at the 3 Liga😂. There are also clubs with extremely strong fan bases (Dynamo, Hansa, Essen, Aachen).
But cool that you have a connection to Hertha. We were a bit more successful back then too😂 We've had some tough years recently with an investor who drove us to ruin. After relegation, however, the new president Kay Bernstein (former Ultra/Fan boss „Capo“) ushered in the „Berliner Weg“, with players from our own youth and without a lot of money. Unfortunately, he died far too young in january. But the Berlin way continues and the atmosphere in the club is much better.

Any tips on the best way to get tickets or do these trips? My best friend and I of 45 years are flying to Cologne in March to hopefully take in 3 matches over 4 days - we don’t mind if it’s B1 or B2 and might even watch Fortuna Koln in the regional league. Ideally we want to watch at least two B1 matches in that area, which is why we’ve timed the trip to fit the fixture list.
