- History beckons the Silent Hunter King! OOOOHHHH YEEEAAHHHHH.
After wrestling with the decision for a while, I've decided to start up a new Silent Hunter 3 career, using the outstanding GWX 3.0 supermod, and loaded with the Silent Hunter 3 Commander frontend.
We're starting off in April of 1944, and the war is a LOT different from when we left off in our previous career. Where once we found easy hunting in a literal ocean of tonnage, there is now only a sea of OMG WTF HALP. But to aid us in our hunt, we are using Germany's finest new weapon: the Type XXI U-boat. Will its technological might be enough to rescue us from the might of my stupendous idiocy?! - เกม

Best submarine ever. Its biggest downfall though is you get it too late in the war and it also has limited AA bullets. However it is very fast underwater and its a true submarine. The range is massive and it's a good sub to hunt tankers in gulf of mexico with and return back home safely without refueling.
If he must end SH4, there are three ways:
1. Running aground in Tokyo Bay and shooting everything until death.
2. Surfacing underneath a Destroyer.
3. Ramming, deck-gunning and boarding IJN Yamato.
What a fantastic game. I used to play this day and night and at the top of it all, read dozens of U-boat books about WWII.
Two years late: The reason he/you can't tell if they are B24s or B25s is that they are neither. They are British (Remember us? We were in the war too.) Lancasters.
Well and Sir Effing is more interested in ships of the sea. Air planes just get him killed and too the uninitiated Lancasters and the B-24-25 look the sameish from ground level.

The Battleship Tirpitz was sunk in Norway by Lancaster bombers during a daytime raid with 22,000lbs bombs in each plane B-24 has rounded tail Lancaster they are more tall then rounded like the ones in this video ..Plus most B-24's had a Star with stripe on the bottom of the left wing

I like the way the XXI looks, but well... the VII had a predatory element to it that a XXI does not have.. its like the XXI sais

While the VII sais:
"Merchants of the World beware, for it is the Age of Wolfs in the Atlantic, and the Hunt is on."

Never commented before, but watched a lot of your SH videos, and I just wanted to say that you were born to Let's Play the ever-loving **** out of the SH games. I am immensely enjoying your commentary.

14:30 -- LOL -- So the damaged one is a B-17, you can tell by the distinctive large rounded tail; the B-24's were the trio that dropped its pattern on you, you can tell by the shape of the wings and the twin tails. Both have 4 engines. I initially took the B-24s for Lancasters, but it wouldn't make sense to see those in the daytime.
There is a mod for GWX that puts a radar warning device on the head of your snorkel that allows you to detect planes while snorkeling. This is a much better idea than just surfacing because you don't have to fully submerge your boat. You just drop your snorkel and away you go.
The mod is called
GWX- Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennnas
It actually should have came with GWX upon installation. You just have to activate it using JSGME
Yes! The series where wet humor is applied to all locations of the body whilst parading across the Atlantic with seamen, has returned! :D
I do, but the schnorkel isn't useful where we're heading. In my preliminary testing, I found out that the schnorkel creates a very visible wake for planes to find, and they're deadly accurate with their bombs by this stage of the war. If you're going to recharge, you may as well do it on the surface because you'll at least be able to detect plane radar signals, and thus be able to dodge them.

I've waited patiently for your return to SH3 (didn't enjoy SH4 as much) and I'm in your crew (woo hoo). Even better I started a new career (1939) myself in SH3 only a couple of days ago after a spell of Rome 2 so I'll be following you closely with this new LP. Let's all pray we survive till the end of the war. Prost!
That's a much more interesting trip out of port than the ones I usually have.

This is a decent idea. I should also clarify that I DO intend on playing SH5 sometime, just not now. Avoiding the campaign mode might be a way to accommodate this.
These mod looks 100% better than the stock game, without the mods. Fun game but I have a lot to learn!!

From the responses I got to my recent channel update video, Silent Hunter 5 was the least popular option. A small plurality of people wanted me to continue SH4 in some form, but for the reasons I've noted in the video, I decided to go with Silent Hunter 3.
I know that not everyone will be pleased with the choice, but that's the way LP's go: I can't play EVERY game, so I play the games that I will have the most fun with, which hopefully makes them the most fun for you to watch.

Has a float valve, like in a snorkel when you dive. Raise the snorkel out of water and it opens.

Bombed ten seconds out of port, got shot and you have a demonic slenderman on your crew. Great start! Next time you hit port add Dietrich Dualvield to the crew. He should be the cook, he specializes in cabbage, beans, pickled eggs and burritos. He is also known for getting sea sick at the drop of a hat.

I'm not sure if you can be bothered to go to Easter Island, but the shoreline is hilarious. If you pick up SH4 again, you can meet the Flying Dutchman in the Luzon Straits. Seems to appear in TMO.
Maybe that sunken Red "ship" was that bomber that got shot down.

Yeah, TMO is really weird. You can hear contacts and seem them on radar but your crew just WILL NOT talk to you.
What and exiting start with bombing of the sub pens!
Ah seems like im there as Seve82 but if its possible it would be more appropriate for him to be Count Seve von Teufel in german sub.
I don't think they had radar warning recievers on the snorkles, but they did have them as a seperate device, however, at least with the ones on the Typ VII's they were notoriously unreliable. Often going off when there was no radar, or not going off when there was radar. I'm unfamiliar with the device used on the Typ XXI, so it might've been the same or it might not've been. Either way, I would imagine the devs wouldn't implement that just out of sake for gameplay, but I could be wrong.

Oh man, talk about trolling me for comments -- take a long listen to the hydrophone, sometimes the screws are pretty loud on the largest military targets, but the pounding of the engine room is quite loud as well. The sound falls off to either side of the loudest bearing, so as long as you're presenting the shot with an angle on bow inside of 30° and 90°, its not likely you'll hit the screws with the acoustics. But this I have not tested....

The biggest downside from what I've seen of SH3 is the crew management, combined with time compression -- they get exhausted too quickly under 32X, and don't tire at all over it.
The Russians stole the type 22 conning tower on the Akula class, also Akula translates to shark or violent fish, and two other ones.

If I'm going to buy a SH game in the Steam Sale tomorrow, which should I get? 3 for the gameplay or 5 for the graphics? Not interested in 4 because I'm more interested in the U-boat campaigns. I understand their is a U-boat DLC but if I'm not mistaken, it also takes place in the Pacific which is on no interest to me. TBH I like the mission freedom of 3 and the graphics and ship internals of 5. Utilizing mods, which is the better game?

You're using the Type XXI? The Allies have no idea what they are in for. Also you should try to play some havoc with the D-Day landings.

I'm wondering if you could help me. I've been watching your SH3 and Sh4 "Let's Plays" and I've started with SH3. I'm just finding things long and boring at the moment and I know it's down to me. I'm starting in Kiel with a U-1 Type IIA. I'm on my second or third patrol and I've sunk nothing lol. I came across a couple of ships last night but I had my angles slightly wrong so I missed them both. The bad thing is with this sub is that I quickly run out of torpedoes and I have no deck gun. I'm just wondering if you could give me some tips to see a bit more action and maybe to also to get to a better boar a bit quicker. Thanks. After watching your videos, I've also subscribed.
You can find the shipping routes. There's a photo out there, you could probably find it on google images with a quick search. The photo shows the shipping routes in this game. Go and patrol along the routes and you will find action. It may take a while but you'll see something to kill.

Dont use type II u boat they sux, and start your patrol from 1940 with a VII type or better in my opinion... a IX type....

An Episode where you just do on huge Battle with a Wolf Pack if that is possible.
