I give my thoughts on the new deal and look at what Tomiyasu, Mikel Arteta and Edu have had to say. I also discuss the news that the independent Key Match Incidents panel believe that Kai Havertz should have been sent off against Brentford and respond to several of your questions on topics such as the summer transfer window and Ethan Nwaneri's future.
    0:00 - Intro
    1:10 - Tomi signs
    4:45 - Arteta and Edu's delight
7:16 - Havertz 'red card' review
10:00 - Brazil train at Colney
    14:00 - Your questions

What did the 'independent' panel say about Arsenal's two claims for penalties? Because Havertz's so-called dive was not the most controversial decision that was made that day. And if that panel had nothing to say about Trossard being choked in the Brentford box and Gabriel's shirt-pull in the same box; then we know they did not do it for the sake of football integrity.

The panel should had judged the match on both Havertz incidents , because his first booking was not a yellow card and therefore if he had received a yellow card for the dive he wouldn’t had been sent off

Congrats to Tomi on the new deal! I agree, I think the length of the extension makes sense in his situation and for the reasons Charles stated. Great kid and player!
Regarding Kai's "non-call", I think if he would have just kicked the defender in the chest he would have been good in Howie Webb's eyes.

Two clear occasions in the very same match that should’ve been penalties to Arsenal (Trossard and Gabi’ M), ref got those wrong, no investigation though.🤔

The two points we lost last season against Brentford for a wrong VAR decision works out for us this time. Plus let us not forget there was a blatant foul on Trossard in the box in this game and we should have had a penalty

Charles, Isn't it funny that there's now chatter from the KMI panel when it's the most important time in Arsenal's season?? This is a huge despicable agenda against us!
Also, what powers do they have in relation to the PGMOL & the FA?

What a coincidence that the panel would say unanimously that Havertz dived! What happened to the many calls they "missed" when it was against Arsenal. Nothing was ever unanimous.

  • @jermynamissah-arthur6597

Hi Charles, this incidence panel is an absolute joke. I dont mind them looking at the Havertz dive but there seems to be a clear and convenient forgetfulness when it comes to Arsenal. In that particular game, in 2 instances before. Trossard was dragged to the pitch, horsecollar tackle. Gabriel's jersey was pulled so clearly and for so long and both those were ruled no need for referee to review. Why is it that the mainstream media (Sky, PLTV) refused to talk about our penalty decisions which we were clearly screwed? But focuses on Havertz.
And Thomas Frank should be quiet, we didnt hear him say anything last year when they scored an offside goal in which an official "forgot" to draw the line.
Even worse, the VAR was none other than Paul Tierney who had made a mistake in the previous week. Why did Howard Webb and his cabal at the PGMOL see fit to then place him on punishment by putting him on an Arsenal game the following week.

I like all love Tomi, but from a club's perspective I am wondering if his injury concerns mean that this a type of selling contract, with offers invited in from other clubs more quickly than normal? But with the extension, gives him time to prove a continued fitness.

Morning Mr Watts, keep up the great show.
The point you're making about Zinchenko and whether the team has found a new way of playing is a perfect example of what Mikel wants from his team. He has essentially found another setup that delivers in addition to the way the team plays when Zinny is in the team, which in turn, makes Arsenal more unpredictable in knowing how they set up. I think he'll keep finding these different setups based on circumstance and squad evolution. Thinking of the idea of numerous 'first teams'. COYG, let's get the European double

Love the show Charles. Enjoying using this international break to have some extra fun with transfer thoughts. Here's two more.
    1. I feel we don't talk enough about our lack of a true backup to Odegaard. We don't have any player that can slot right in if Odegaard needs a rest that doesn't require a change in structure. One player that comes to mind with offensive AND defensive ability for that right 8 role is Conor Gallagher. Chelsea are in a financial bind. Thoughts on a total 90 million pound offer to land both Gallagher and Mudryk in a structure so Chelsea won't take a loss on Mudryk? I remain convinced Arteta had a plan for Mudryk and can still get the best out of a still young player that can match Martinelli and Saka's speed.
    2. I disagree we need a 80-100 million striker. I really like how we look with Havertz as a false 9 (and G. Jesus too). We do need a striker for a different look now and then, especially if we need a goal late in games. Few quality players would be willing to take such a bit role. What about Giroud? He's still got that ability to score goals at AC Milan. At his age he may be open for a more limited role, especially on a team that are genuine Prem League and Champions League title contenders. Surely he'd hold off on going to play in MLS another year or two so we can see that beautiful Frenchman back in Arsenal red!

I think just a 2-year extension for (admittedly) a great player but who can never stay fit like Tomi is reasonable. If he can prove his fitness next season then the following season would be a good time to look at the situation. But if he’s still only ever fit to play Japan games next season it will be time to cut our losses.

    Hi Charles,
Why is there a reluctance from the top premier league clubs to recruit from the championship?
Players like Bellingham, Eze, Bowen, and Gyokeres have shown that the best players in the championship can definitely play at a higher level. Buying Gyokeres from Coventry would have been significantly cheaper.
Jaden Philogene has been sensational for Hull City this season and can play on either wing. I feel he would be great for us.

OK, so what about Havertz's first yellow card? It was never a yellow. 3 penalties shout and none given. The pull on Trossard's neck? Stonewall penalty, not given! Typical of these, so call panels or pundits. How about assessing all major decisions?

Hi Charles, Great work as always. Quick one regarding this whole world class debate. Do you think we now have to rethink the way we view what a world class player is opposed to how we used to view it in previous eras. I think there's a good conversation to be had surrounding this point due to the fact that in past eras the term world class was determined on your ability to provide individual brilliance whether in defensive or attacking play depending on your position on the pitch. I think players in todays game have to be judged on both their ability produce moments of individual brilliance but also their ability to process tactics, game state and also positional change whilst maintaining an elite level of performance. Coaches such as Pep, Klopp and Arteta have changed the players required I.Q. level and their ability to process what an opposition team is doing tactically and how they can go about adapting to their tactics and attacking their weak spots. Is it time that we start to consider a players I.Q. and adaptability and the flexibility they give a manager and their team as a metric in determining their standing in the game, are we too focused on just stats and individual brilliance. It would be interesting to see how many players we considered world class in the past how they would fair with modern teams with players with superior tactical acumen and a more structured yet positionally fluid players who have a high technical level. Apologies for the long windedness but I think so many players are not receiving their dues in terms of their actual intelligence of the game, tactics and ability to perform at a high level in multiple positions!

Hey Charles! Since we are in a bit of lull before the league & CL returns, I was wondering what you would rank as Arsenal's great away wins?
In the league, the win at Old Trafford to secure the title must be up there? A more recent one (although not half as important) might be the 2-0 win at the Etihad when Cazorla ran the game?
In the CL, I will always remember the 2-0 win against Milan in the San Siro in 2007/08, a brilliant all-round performance. Two random ones I loved were the 1-0 against Dortmund with Ramsey's winner & the Giroud hattrick against Olympiacos. Hoping for another great night in Munich in a few weeks 🤞
Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers! Ben

Are we talking about the Brantford that scored an outside goal last season when Arsenal were in their title hunt? I don’t feel for them! I didn’t hear this much noise when a similar poor referee decision was against Arsenal . Come on man, allow it

Hopefully this will be a message to Havertz that he needs to cut out this kind of crap. It's really distasteful and is not helpful to the team. I remember when Joel Linton was sent off in the Brazil Argentina game and it ruins the game. The Argentinian should've gone off for his theatrics.

And Arsenal should have been afforded a penalty. I'm utterly convinced of this. So Havertz should have been sent off the moment Arsenal got their penalty....

It's baffling how people are only concentrating on Kai Havertz when 2 Brentford players were waving and signalling to the ref that he should give Kai a card, ironically one of those 2 players was on a yellow card too, which means he SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT OFF WITH KAI.

Charles, this hatred by officials of Arsenal is European wide. Pierluigi Collina (former World cup ref) and now in charge of European Referees standards, has said that Odegaard's Goal against Porto, should have stood. Imagine if we had lost on penalties? VAR was supposed to stop all these "panels" reviewing incidents after game. Brentford Prior to Kai's dive we should have had two penalties, they never mention that?

Hi Charles. I feel that Zinchenko should be moved on. I don’t know what it is about him but I’ve just never taken to him. I feel his impact has been massively over stated given the amount of football he missed last season pre World Cup, he had a few good games but was not the transformational signing we are led to bileive. After the World Cup he was either injured or quite poor. Same again this season. Maybe it because I just really liked KT but I do actually think we are a better team without Zinny.
I feel there is an agenda some times in the arsenal media to defend of over praise certain players like if he has a bad game he has had a bad game we don’t need to be reminded after everyone one of his qualities. This is not done for any other player. (Not aimed at you by the way as you are always really objective 😊)

No he was pushed out you can clearly see it You are on the run it doesn't take much for you to fall one must differ from a dive and losing balance from the pressure of defenders all you have to do is look at the picture and look at kai hips thighs people loose thier balance on the pavement and fall what diving on the pavement right what ever

I love how Charles loves spending Arsenals money. It was an easy deal because his team couldn't believe how much money was on the table. Just like the Liz Truss government. Give everyone a pay rise and don't worry about the finances. 100k pw is still a lot of money even in EPL. Why double his money? This contract will price him out of selling to teams in Europe because they only pay that much money on top top players who arent always injured. Tomi himself has admitted to not contributing as much as he liked. I'm sure he would have accepted a 50 percent payrise. Currently we have half a dozen players earning 100kpw plus who aren't regulars and who we can't sell because they earn too much.

Was Kai havertz dive the first in football history. Was it the worst thing to ever happen in football. Why are people still talking about it. There was contact he went down trying to buy a penalty. It wasn't a penalty, but so what he see this all the while but they made a big deal of it because its Arsenal. Kovacic challenges against Arsenal was forgotten by the media by the next day. They can all go a suck a sheep

That is what I was saying : there was surely contact on the guy. Even some Arsenal fans are saying that it was a dive giving into the narrative of the media 🤷🤦‍♂️
