Do you want to buy a brand new kite? But don’t know which kite to get? In this video I will go over some big brands like: Core, Naish, Duotonbe, crabina, Reedin, F-one and Harlem kites. And we will rank 9 different kites and bars according to our own personal experience. Yes, this is extremely subjective, however honesty is all this channel has to offer!
Buying a new kite is like buying a new car, you have to test it before you really know what it’s like. And testing kites is exactly what I have done, during the kitemana testitval. Does the core XR are really jump the highest for an average rider? Is the new duotone clickbar any good? How big of a gamble is buying a relatively new brand? Are the new duotone bags, any bigger than the average woman’s purse? You will learn it all in this kite review!
Oke, if you are in a hurry you can skip to this timestamp to check out the rankings immediately. If you want to know how I tested these kites, and care to know about a little bit of background information stick around.
Are you a kitesurfer that loves boosting and wants to get into doing kiteloops? Than, you are just like me, and that is how I will be ranking these kites. All kites in this review are supposedly made for boosting. I will be ranking these kites based on the following factors.
The testing was done by good friend and I, either at the Telstar Surf Centre or at the Kitemana testival. Firstly we ran towards the core stand (mainly to try the XR, the current WOO recordholder), where we teste de nexus 2 and the new XR. Afterwards we tried testing a 12 meter, because the wind dropped a bit. I got my hand on a Switchblade from cabrina. Afterter the wind picked up quite a bit we did some boosting on Naish kites. After the wind almost picked up to 30 knots we both tried the duotone stand. All the other kites mentioned in the rankings were tested earlier this year at the telstar surf centre.
Some honourable mentions we unfortunately did not test, were the North Orbit (they only had a few and they were constantly being test by others) and The new F-one Badit because they only seemed to have smaller sizes available. Also we didn’t get the chance so try out the airbrush and RPM kites. Especially the RPM machine is on my wishlist.
Oke so now for the exciting reveal, what is the kite we disliked the most?
    1. Duotone Rebel: want to go to the moon and back? We recommend the duotone rebel, its agile and boost super high. We tested a 9m with a small duotone clickbar. While I personally don’t like the large clickbar, the small clickbar felt a lot better. Its also nice Lasse Walker personally rigged this kite for us! If your wallet can afford it, we recommend this kite!
    2. Reedin Supermodel v2: I own the reedin supermodel and if you like light bar pressure this might be the best boosting kite for you! Long hangtime, easy looping that is what the super model is all about. Learning new tricks on the supermodel has been a lot of fun.
    3. Naish pivot: Using the naish pivot felt like coming home. It turns like my ex girlfriend seeing the bill coming and the barfeel is awesome. The main difference between the reedin supermodel and the pivot is the bar pressure. The reason we placed it below the supermodel is because of the hideous look. While Niash usually makes awesome looking kite, the 2022 just doesn’t do it for us.
    4. Cabrina Switchblade: I have mixed feelings with regards to the switchblade. And that is because the 9m is awesome and the 12m is terrible. To 9m kite turns so smoothly I even went for a kiteloop on this kite, while I can barely manage them. The hangtime is also great, since this is a 5 strut kite. I liked to kite so much that I might be buying a smaller sized one in the futere. Like I mentioned the 12M is not as great, since it’s very slow in my opnion.
    5. Core XR: this kite probably boosts the highest out of them all, however we do not place it at number one. The bar feels pretty standard and the kite is on the slow side, even for a 5 strut kite.
    6. Harlem GO: This kite feels a lot like the Duotone EVO, and comes with an excellent warranty.
    7. Duotone EVO SLS: this is a great allrounder, it has a super large sweetspot for jumping
    8. Bandit 2020: This is the first kite I bought new myself, turning is super smooth, but not made with boosting in mind in my opinion.
    9. Core Nexus two: supposedly this is a kite for beginners, but in my experience it’s fast with a delay. The low end is also missing in my opinion. However, it boosts really high and if you are an experienced kitesurfer you will probably have lots of fun using this kite.

Good job guys, on a separate topic what's it like to go straight thru a head height wave? (vid intro)

The crazy fly sculp 9m is an awesome kite for boosting and all levels of riders.

I am guessing Pivot was on the stock bridal settings, if you move the bridle to the second knots it boosts and floats much better.

Interesting and honest review. Evo SLS is def a good booster and just super fun to fly. Loops great too. Ozone edge would prolly make ur top 3 based off ur reviews. Orbit maybe but it’s got a funny bar pressure thing going on. Cheers 🍻

Cool! Is there any significant difference between the pivot and supermodel? Currently on the pivot and a bit curious, or are they quite similar

Out of the kites tested they were the most similar, however they are different. The most significant difference is the bar pressure.

Bit surprised there was no mention of the ozone edge. I bought it specifically because it was the preferred racing kite and is the best boosting kite that I have used. That said, I have not tried all the kites in your list. I have tried the switchblade from 4-5 years back and it sucked hard. Worst kite I have ever flown and give it an F for boosting.

Ye, I definitely need to try the ozone edge. What are your thoughts?

@@Jochumvideos I have a 13m V10. It turns quick for its size, give huge power and always catches me when I send it. My dad has a 13m V9 which is not nearly as dynamic.
I tried a 10m V10 once but the bridle caused it to buckle and implode while 30ft up. That said, it may have been tuned poorly or something cause Overbeek loves it.
Also, I should point out that the switchblade I used was also 2nd hand and may have needed some tuning, but I just got rid of it. I think setting up kites bar, bridle, lines etc and kite size selection can make a huge difference in the perception of performance. I am keen to give the Rebel or Orbit a go, but I just got a 10m Pivot, which is pretty great. I suspect the 10m Orbit will go higher and catch you better though. It has a super high aspect.
Anyway, that is my limited experience.
