Epilepsy is a group of neurological disorders characterized by epileptic seizures. Epileptic seizures are episodes that can vary from brief and nearly undetectable periods to long periods of vigorous shaking. These episodes can result in physical injuries, including occasionally broken bones. In epilepsy, seizures tend to recur and, as a rule, have no immediate underlying cause.Isolated seizures that are provoked by a specific cause such as poisoning are not deemed to represent epilepsy. People with epilepsy may be treated differently in various areas of the world and experience varying degrees of social stigma due to their condition.
The cause of most cases of epilepsy is unknown. Some cases occur as the result of brain injury, stroke, brain tumors, infections of the brain, and birth defects through a process known as epileptogenesis. Known genetic mutations are directly linked to a small proportion of cases. Epileptic seizures are the result of excessive and abnormal neuronal activity in the cortex of the brain. The diagnosis involves ruling out other conditions that might cause similar symptoms, such as fainting, and determining if another cause of seizures is present, such as alcohol withdrawal or electrolyte problems. This may be partly done by imaging the brain and performing blood tests. Epilepsy can often be confirmed with an electroencephalogram (EEG), but a normal test does not rule out the condition.

Life was grand as a toddler, going on weekend trips with my parents, playing with my friends and listening to grandma as she shared one inspiring story after another about the good old days. What more could a child ask for than the love and comfort of her family?
Surprising life quickly took a turn for the worst and that pathway I was destined to journey became rocky as traumatic obstacles crossed my life path and took me on a different journey. A journey, one no child should have to experience.
    The Beginning
At the age of five, I had contracted a sore throat and an ear infection. My mother had brought me to the doctor’s office that evening and the pediatrician had put me on penicillin and told my mother to have me rest in bed. No one thought much of it at the time.
I rested in bed and I was on the penicillin for about ten days. On the tenth night when she put me to bed, my lips were more red than usual. The next morning at about 8:00 A.M., my mother woke up because she heard unusual noises coming from my room that sounded like I was choking on my saliva. She walked into my bedroom to find me in my bed turning blue and having a grand mal seizure. This was the first time I ever experienced a seizure.

I know how you feel I’ve had them since I was about a year old but they were fairly random having about all kinds of them even on meds until the last 10 years I believe but the side effects turned nasty a few months ago when I got 2 kidney stones an about 2 months apart one worse than the other they suspected it was one of my meds and switching to the new one has had them come back unfortunately I’ve tried almost ever medication there is except for 2 the one I’m switching to and 1 they are saving for a last resort but unfortunately I can’t really do any other option with generalized seizures but hoping for the best with this new one 🤞fingers crossed.

Try CBD oil. That’s supposed to help stop seizures. I started taking that stuff this past weekend and I already feel a lot happier. I wish I knew about CBD oil when I was 11 when my seizures came back. I’ve had it with those things and waking up every morning afraid I might have one later that day.

i hope someone sees and knows the answer. i had what i believe is a tonic-clonic seizure because what i felt like i was getting head numbness and i was barely able to think i could only move for a bit then i would pass out and when i woke up i had a little trouble getting my consciousness fully like i was half awake and i bit my tongue. this has happened to me twice, the 1st time it felt like the upper part of my body froze and i could only move my legs and the 2nd time it felt like my head froze but i could barely move the rest of my body. so is this a seizure or a epilepsy or whats wrong?
note: it kinda feels like a computer getting so laggy after getting so many orders that it freezes and restarts.
another note: after my 2nd seizure the dr gave me keppra 1000mg to take twice a day, he said i gotta keep taking it for 2 years, if a seizure happens again the 2 years restart and he told im not allowed to drive, swim or play playstation until those 2 years are over.

There is a good chance i might have a form of epilepsy, about 3-4years ago I would have moments where I would 'zone out' for about 5 to 7 seconds and forget what I was talking about if I was talking, then over time it became more frequent, it started as once every 3-4 months, not I have at least 1 to 3 every week or 2 weeks.
I had an MRI and my doctor requested an EEG so....i am a little concerned.
I also do have autism, so that might be a factor too.
edit: I also do think I have a focal type of a seizure, as every now and then my leg or arm with jerk violently, and as stated I have moments where I 'zone out'.

I want to tell my story. I’m epileptic and I was diagnosed with epilepsy in early 2020 me and my mother were going threw a hard time and we didn’t have enough money to go to a neurologist and I had to wait until we had enough money to go to neurologist and he said I’m surprised you haven’t died because I’ve only had grandmal and then I started having clonic seizures badly and a week after that I got out of my moms car and and was gonna say bye to her to get on to the bus and I just started having clonic seizures back to back and I looked at my mom and a I saw the horror in her eyes and I the bus just arrived and I was in middle school and I saw my friends faces just in horror and the little kids on the bus I felt so bad after I woke up and after I woke up in the hospital I looked at my mom and I “said is everyone okay.” I don’t know why I would say that but yeah, afterwords I went to school by my decision and one of my friends came up to me and said you okay and I said yes to brush it off but I was not okay I’ve been having seizures since 2019 and I got depressed because I wanted to run in track and if I kept having clonic seizures I won’t be able to and I couldn’t and it was my last year in middle school and I lost hope of becoming a sprinter. After that moment a girl I knew from 1 grade came up to me and gave me a hug and said “ you okay” I said yes like I always do and a lot of teachers came up to me and asked about me but the same answer, after a while my memory started to become better, then I started freshman but my mom was dating a piece of garbage who was a racist a crack addict and meth and coke addict and he did opioids and harassed my mom and he made me have seizures and made me cry and one night he was gonna leave because my mom was kicking him out he heated a ring tone and jumped on my mom and took her phone and she tried to take it back and she got pushed and shoved to the ground and all I can here is struggling and crying and screaming and I woke up and tried to grab my phone and call the cops and My hand was grasped around my phone and I had a small seizure but I came back to reality fast and I called them he fled and was hiding near by to grab his dog and he harassed me and my mom again and he has a warrant out for his arrest for 14-15 grand sorry I don’t like to talk about it because it makes me have clonic seizures bu anyway, I was doing in one thing I couldn’t do good in algebra I sucked at the other curriculums but I was good at this until January 14th I was doing online school and I was in the middle of class thanks to my teacher we could have our cameras off and I had the worst seizure of my life, my mom came home said why are you missing school I missed a couple classes I never cared about bc i thought algebra was fun somehow but after I told her why they said the cops would show if I missed more classes and started having clonic seizures and my mom said to lay back in bed and I did and I said I’m fine bc when I have a seizure and I see someone in shock my hearts in physical pain it’s sharp. When I went full granmal i heard my mom say “ALEX” “ ALEX” “alex” then I feel my jaw opened and my jaw muscles tense up so hard my ears ring so loud and my brain concentrates on that sound it becomes louder and louder and then quiet I have vivid memories of it I remember it being so cold and my mom helping me get my shoes on and the paramedics pick me up and put me on a stretcher and they ask me questions and I only remember one of them saying “You still there?” and I was still half conscious and half unconscious and I woke up in the hospital with a nurse talking to my mom about my info and my mom told her and the nurse left the room and I asked my mom “ how long was it?” She said” 7-8 minutes and I was in shock remember if it’s longer then that 8 minutes it can kill you and I realized that the least amount of stress can kill me or harm me severely and I became sorta depressed because I’m walking on a thin rope some people are walking on but I tell people I hope your getting better and I’m telling myself I will get better to but I never get better I’m getting worse by the minute when I moved down to a home town of mine because we had no other because my town I was living in was becoming shit and we almost went homeless but i moved to a small hometown but I had a lot of people I knew and I was excited but not bc I knew people and they didn’t know me so I just stayed in my lane playing on my computer or doing “ work “ but after a while people tried talking to me I never talked to anybody except family or teachers but in my last class I had people I knew from younger grades when I was younger they tried to I have in and I got along with some people and these two girls stuck out to me they were so nice and they genuinely wanted to talk to me so I gave in too, they were nice but one was nice but mean but one is just really nice and cares about people and I told what happened and they said sorry I kinda began to have a friendship with them but I recently got an Apple Watch which had a seizure app and it detected when I was about to have a seizure and I had one each day for about three weeks and I couldn’t go to school and couldn’t finish and I have to restart but I’m gonna miss a lot of people because I was building a friendship but I don’t know if I’ll be there to see them because if I have a seizure I might die which idk if I feel better then I should, as I was typing this I am trying not to cry or have any seizures I want to tell you people who have been epileptic , my memory is fading away I can barely recognize people is this a side affect or?

My seizures always start with my eyes moving fast, then my muscles tighten up, my face starts twitching and if the seizure gets worse my whole body starts shaking. Some scary stuff. the visuals for this video are very crude and inconsiderate. a lot of people will happen across this video when possibly worried and searching for answers, and honestly the video script seems like it's making a joke out of it. displaying autistics as a person crying all the time? depicting accidents with pools of blood and folks freaking out over seizures? it's really unhelpful

Ketogenic diet is helpful in reducing symptoms in grownups as well. Why are you limiting it only to children?!
