It sounds great to me. I used to have a real Twin which was about 20 years old at the time, and honestly it was a pain. It got really hot and broke several times before finally catching fire.
Damn! I also had The "twin" from the 80's with two eminence speakers with an overdrive channel. The built in distortion was crappy and paper thin that was like a light overdrive. Clean channel was beautiful! For a couple of years the amp was trouble free, then while on a gig the amp would cut out and you would have to turn it up to ten , hit an A chord and the volume would come back to normal. My local amp tech found that a wire came loose or was left unsoldered from the factory. He fixed the problem and I sold it due to the weight. This amp was the "Twin" that had a circuitry designed by amp guru Paul Riveira
I have both the tone master twin and the tube one. And I’ve a/b ‘d and there is no real difference even when overdriven. They both sound amazing. In fact I slightly prefer the sound of the tone master. Also I prefer gigging with the tone master as I can set how much headroom I need using the attenuators. So it’s pretty cool. Love my tone master.
@@clgmafnas hi there, not so good with drive pedals. had to tweak the settings to get the best out of the drive with the tone master. but still got a good sound in the end.
Went from a Victory Countess to one of these and as much as I will always, always love Victory, the cleans and breakup on this are astounding. And you can pick them up with your little finger.
I just wanted to say that I think you did a very nice job with this review, and that your commentary was fair. Nice playing and great sound quality too!
I got mine about the time this video was made. I've used it ever since with no problems. The DO and the power attenuator make this model much more versatile than the original, which I used for close to 40 years. And the reduced weight is just another plus.
Hey bro, I'm looking for a tube version of Jazz Chorus and many people recommend the Twin Reverb. What do you think about this new twin VS the tube twin, is the clean tone identical? And are they identical when drive pedals are in front of the cleans?
It sounds like a twin , when you turn up a tube twin it sounds just like the tone master. Every twin Ive ever played is woofy and raspy when turned up into distortion range, twins werent made for overdrive. They are the best clean amp ever made. Thats what most people buy them for. If you want a great overdrive amp, buy a Marshall, or some other drive amp.
Yess my twin reverb would screech back when I’d use a distortion pedal. Now with the tone master, there’s no aweful feedback trying to use a distortion pedal :)
I took the plunge and bought a Fender Twin ToneMaster when they were first available in Australia sometime in late 2019 or 2020. I had previously put down the cash for a 1970's Twin reverb, but the sale fell through, so the Tonemaster was my next choice and similar price at the end of the day. It has been a great amp. It gets played everyday, and it gets used and abused by a bunch of teenagers practicing their band. I have had no issues with the amp 3 years on with all this regular use. The cleans are gorgeous! And I think the reverb and tremolo are very sweet. Particularly with the the software upgrade. I use the "attenuator" to be able to set the amp at volume 10 without blowing the roof off, as I love that "woofy" simulated Twin breakup. I use a clean boost pedal to accentuate that, but I have to say I have struggled to find a good pairing with drive pedals and this amp. I am considering trying a speaker change with some real creambacks. I would like to try the deluxe reverb version, I wonder if hat has more of that wonderful "woofiness"on tap. Anyway, my 2 cents. Thanks for your great channel dude.
I finally tried this amp myself, and love the tones out of it! Attenuated at turned up sounds beefy and great! Off course it's a light overdrive, but highly usable if you're into blues rock
Can’t wait for reviews with some aged speakers. There’s a mid/high range in these amp that drives me crazy. I’ve played a couple versions of this amp, in person, & didn’t notice it so much. I probably EQ’d it out the best I could. Hopefully they keep working on updates
You need an attenuator because: 1) There's no master volume, so the only way to get the amp to distort (on its own) is to crank the volume. But that would be really loud. 2) When a non-master volume amp is cranked into distortion, it's primarily the output stage that's distorting (which is different than distortion achieved with a MV). Presumably, cranking this amp produces output stage-type distortion. But again, cranking the volume would be really loud without attenuation.
I’m sold on theses hard core. I used to be that guy. China ??? Solid state ???? Truth is it’s even better and it blows my freaking mind!!!! Then the weight factor ...... but that would not even half way matter if they didn’t get the sound right, and they absolutely killed it. I have a USA fender concert amp sitting in my jam room right now which I love ... play it every day but these are just special sounding Amps. Go try one !!!
I didn’t even know they made a tubeless twin. That’s pretty cool! I won’t be trading in my tube twin though 👍🏼. They only thing I hate about a twin is you can’t turn the volume up past 3 without blowing the windows out of your house!

Since it's a computer, make it hooked into a big button jitterbug phone, and that also that monogram chrome name/address /phone label so they uber me home after my pre-recorded "pride and joy" solo break ("love me like a man" for the ladies). its in a setting with the band is where these amps will either sink or swim. sounding crisp and clear while alone is one thing, but keeping up with a raging bass rig, and slamming drums (in all types of clubs/rooms) is a total different story
Nice demo. One thing no one seems to be commenting on is how it feels under the fingers when played. That sag and dynamics that are a feature of a Twin clean at volume. Guess I’ll just have to try one.
Not much sag in a Twin reverb. It's a clean high headroom amp with a solid state rectifier. It has a pretty immediate response. The Tonemaster version is pretty damn close to the tube version.
I as kinda blown away by the opening clean tones with the tele. It really sounded great and it seemed like it was fun and easy to play through. I gotta say I was skeptical that these amps would actually still sound like the amps they are emulating and I still am but regardless they sound pretty damn good for what they are. Idk how much of that is youtube compressing the shit out of the audio etc. Either way great playing as always.
Man I have been looking everywhere for a demo of this thing taking a dirt pedal. This sounds awesome! Did the 1981, AT+ OR 420 have any digital hiss on top that you could hear in person?
03/05/2020: If I am plugged into the clean channel, can I hit footswitch to activate reverb or tremolo? Also, is there a difference in volume and tone with the 1x12 vs 2x12 speakers?
I played one of these and also the boss katana no comparison the boss sounds digital therefore like crap. The tone master sounded like a tube amp and the attenuater is super cool as the amp sounded the same at all levels just quieter.
I hope that the guy in the store paying full price right now takes care of it so that when I buy it off of him for 45% of retail, I don’t have to clean it ❤️
The cleans sound really amazing with this amp, especially with the telecaster neck pickup! It makes me want to play mine :) With the distortion and fuzz pedals, the bass was making speaker start to flub a bit. I don't know if that's the nature of a twin, or the eq with volume, but it seems like something that can be eq'ed out if needed. I've been so close to buying a Deluxe Reverb RI for so long now, and now the Tone Masters are out. I'll see how things look in a while when some of the honeymoon shine has worn off :). Hats off to Fender for trying this though, they've certainly tested the market with these.
Can I incorporate my Egnater Tweaker 2x12 with a Radial Cab-Link(even though there's not an ext. speaker output on the Twin) and if so would that bypass the Twin's Jensons? I was hoping to have added to sound to an extension 2x12 to put on the other side of the room. Thanks.
Awesome demo!!! It sounded better direct, but I think that’s because of the way you had the non-direct sound mic’d.. the IR’s probably capture both speakers as opposed to the way you had yours with one mic on one speaker...
It loose clarity on the mid area when pushed and Fuzz, but yeah, cleans are so nice!!! but being honest, maybe a Jazz Chorus worths more the money, talking about no tube ones
Thomas Ertzeid Gulseth it’s awful, I bought a jc120 3 months ago before finding out about these, and I’m kicking my self in the ass now. The Roland jc makes dirty pedals sound LIKE SHIT
IAMRYANMAN _ the amp has A LOT of presence! Use single coils and nothing too hot and bassy or the amp will sound boomy. I’m running a Mooer Yellow Comp > Boss BD-2 Keeley Modded > ProcoRAT 2 and I have from light overdrive to face crushing distortion with this combination and it sounds incredible. Good luck!
@@SuckSmoothie haha! that's awesome, I actually ended up selling mine, and bought a tone master deluxe reverb... I think I made the right choice for my style of playing.
I have a budget of $1000, I was going to buy the 1x12 tweed Princeton but now that the tone masters are out I can get the twin I’ve always wanted. As close as I can get anyways, that I can actually play at reasonable volumes and gig with. Nobody would even notice in a mix. Any thoughts?
David Russell thanks David, yeah I live in the US it’ll be a bit over $1000 once tax and shipping take hold but it would be the same as the Princeton!! Thanks for the advice I’m going to order it this week
I had a chance from my local guitar shop last weekend to try out the twin tonemaster in a live situation. location : medium club, appr. 200 visitors. Genre : 7-piece funk/soul band. eq. : professional PA and monitors. Guitar : fender telecaster usa. drive pedals : J rockett the dude, Ibanez TS 808, delay : Nemesis. reverb : from the tonemaster. I ran it on the 85wfull power setting. My Findings, Plus : XLR out, cab sim, quiet no hum, ofcourse the weight, great clean sound and headroom, good quality reverb & tremolo. Minus : up to Vol. 4 convincing tube feel, after vol. 4/5 a thinner sound with less bite and dynamics. this is a modeling (pre) amp design, as such there is no real tube compression from the power amp at higher levels. For a first try though it was not bad, I own a ‘71 twin rev. non master with which I could compare it at home. For a made in china amp a bit overpriced. Overall I rate it at 8.5
This really does seem like a great practice, working man and small venue amp. It checks all the right boxes, it's not super noisy, has a great XLR line output that actually sounds great and not like poo, the ability for firmware updates, you name it.
06/30/2020: Why two jack channels? I see one channel is designated "Normal" for only clean tones and the other channel is labeled "Vibrato" (has reverb). So, why not just use the footswitch for reverb and you can run the Vibrato channel clean or with reverb. So, why is there a need for the "Normal" all clean channel? Also, I see it is supposed to copy the tube amp, which any tube amp cannot have headphones. But, come on, this is solid-state and they could have added a headphone jack for total silent playing. The attenuator switch in the back is basically a volume knob, and you can't play silent. So, why is there no headphone jack at a price of $1,000.00 for a slid-state amp? Can anyone out there in cyberland answer these two questions?
g8 review and good amp..I played it @ Chgo music exhange and thought it was the tube version until I moved the amp to cut it off Then I knew smthg was off (too light). IF IT WAS 500/600 I wld BUY IT.
Great video mate! I must say, I am surprised by the sounds coming from this amp. But there is just still some inexplicable reason I would opt for good old tube amps over this one. I guess I just feel like if it was "good enough" for all the greats from the 50's onwards, I'll just stick with that. Although, that's not to say that this doesn't have some modern conveniences and features that classic tube amps don't have.
Heavenly good is right. This is an amazing amp. Hopefully reliability will last a lifetime like the tube versions. I highly plan on purchasing someday, for now my Orange crush pro is doing a great job.
There is no master volume, so the attenuator allows you to push the channel volume and still play at a lower overall volume without adding a master volume dial to the circuit and make it look like something other than a clone of the original amp.
It doesn’t sound digital to me. The price is a bit high, I think: you can get a great tube amp for the same kind of money, so why go digital, since it doesn’t have that many more features than a tube amp? Maybe the attenuation and the line out?
It was an answer to a market leaning that way. The cabinet is pine with is a tone wood rather than ply wood like the tube version. Other than that, I'm not sure of the price. It's built in China
I think it's in the reliability that this amp is a win! Compared to its tube counterpart, it weighs almost half as much (as he says in the video) and since it doesn't contain tubes, it's more roadworthy and less likely to break during a gig due to f.e. broken tubes! All that without sacrificing tone (judging from what I heard in the video) is a great achievement! 👌👌
It is almost as expensive as a “real” Deluxe Reverb, over 1000€... It is also the price of two Helix Stomp, for instance. I am convinced it sounds great but I’m not sure about spending that kind of money for it.
There's no way a digital amp like this will last 50+ years, like so many old fender tube amps, which are still going strong to this day! Yeah, they all needed some minor maintenance but old tube amps are usually pretty easy to fix yourself & parts are plentiful. However, I don't see it with this digital amp. Good luck getting parts for that thing, years from now.. Only time will tell, how these hold up in the long run. I'd love to see a gut shot though, nevertheless!
Sounds great, but I don’t know if that means much considering I think you make just about all the gear you demo sound pretty fantastic! I’m definitely considering one of these now. Seems like a killer pedal platform!
What is this “entry level” amp thing I keep reading? A Twin is never ever an entry level amp.........modelling or tube! Too many shit cheap modelling amps out there to compare to this concept........a genius concept in my view...........well done Fender! 😎👍
Do not not be chomping at the but just yet my friend.needs to be out for a few years before considering this piece of crap.my circuit board 65 twin went on the brink last week.my point to point 65 super reverb still plays.i am thinking about making a 5e3 amp.
I used to plug my 1st strat into my hifi stereo had guitar input inp} 1974,sounded similar. Ss. You honed in on the attenuator and how a transistor doesn't need attenuation you can only use a power soak when you want to take something off for the tubes transistors don't have a sweet spot No Such Thing The Sounds the same at every place
Tube will always be king.my circuit board 65 twin reissue went on the brink again.my point to point 65 super reverb still plays.i am thinking about making my own amp.a 5e3 amp that is point to point.qaulity is no good nowadays.so you will have to make your own stuff now.if this guy says their is no.another thing worth buying is a iron skillet. difference.either he is lying or does not have enough experience .
Karl Close yes but i think the point for a lot of buyers is that they don’t want the weight and the upkeep of tube amp, plus the volume options are great. at least this is the case for me. it is pricy though
Your phone is class d too. Tubes make a penetrating sound that you can feel in your bones, the only way to tell is to play it yourself and turn those dials up and down. Remember when Scotty asks the Computer if that's really Captain Kirk's voice or not? That's what we're talking about, a digital deception that mimics certain sounds but can't duplicate the phenomenon of vacuum tubes v transitors. Waveform can show it. Players can tell you it changes time, ss to fast responses, but EARS and FINGERS can easily tell difference. When its loud in gig that emulation will vanish, drums, bass will kick it out of sonic space. I'll keep my tube amps forever.
Go try one dude. I was that guy too. Haven’t owned anything but tube amps for last 20 yrs. this is the real deal and even better than the tube twin. They made this based on legendary twins from vintage yeArs. Go try one I was that guy USA made all tubes is all it will ever be !! I was dead wrong about that these are the shit dude
listen, @@seb5542 an analog amp is repairable for a long time. decades. There are people who can figure out the bad resistor, capacitor, op amp, transistor etc......techs won't touch a TV after a few years, all the digital gadgets we have will go to a landfill when broken because no one will fix them. that that they can't be fixed, it's just not worth it and the parts become obsolete and go out of production pretty fast. It sounds great but it's the same price as the analog alternative but won't live nearly as long. I;m not an analog snob but How can the price be the same? no sir. And, btw, God, why won't you intervene?
@@-thirteen "after a few years" how long are we talking here because I still repair tech that is like 10+ years old. Also TVs are incredibly easy to fix, that's just a waste of money if you're just chucking all of your broken tech into landfill. A tube amp has a higher chance of randomly breaking on you than a modeling amp would and it needs more maintenance. And if it where to break on you they are really easy to fix as the parts in them are child's play. And parts are actually quite easy to find if you know what you are looking for. And parts do not become obsolete. They may do in letter iterations, but parts are still findable. As for the price, yeah it really expensive which always annoying, specially with a modeling amp, but it's what you get for the parts they are using and that really decent 8 core processor.
@@-thirteen these techs you take you stuff to must be real knobs like apples repair techs or something lol. I feel sorry for you if they are refusing to fix your stuff.
I was also considering this option, but the fact of the matter is I would need to purchase a second device to get the full range of functionality this offers out of a regular Twin. You would need to buy something like the Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander so you could have the ability to get the breakup tones (somewhere around 6 and up on the volume knob) and have an impulse response direct out. So really, you're looking at needing to spend $1299 more to have a reactive load/attenuator/impulse response loader to accompany it. This thing is half the weight, sounds real, has attenuation, and already has an XLR out with two different (potential customizable) impulse responses.

IAMRYANMAN _ still a great choice. Getting a fender twin tonemaster soon to add to the family!
I can't wait to what you think (I'm at the beginning..lol
)
.
The sounds are wonderful, but I'm wondering about the feel.
Feels wonderful!
Go with the Tone Master for sure!
Living Room Gear Demos thanks man that’s what I was hoping to hear! Great demo by the way, subbed
I would buy the tone master also, I dont know where you live, but in the US the tone master is $1000
David Russell thanks David, yeah I live in the US it’ll be a bit over $1000 once tax and shipping take hold but it would be the same as the Princeton!! Thanks for the advice I’m going to order it this week
Yea the tone master twin is also 2 lbs lighter than the Princeton. Crazy bad ass
Can someone tell me how loud the TM Twin will be at Volume around 7 with the attenuator at 1W? (compared to a normal voice volume)
It’s distortion but reasonable volume.
If you set it to 5 watts and play it at 5/10 and ad a distortion pedal it will be similar.
Overall I rate it at 8.5
Hi. I assume at full power and 4-5 on the volume it was very loud, maybe louder than most would need?
K M it was not that loud, at band stage level. At vol. 7 it will be loud.
@@ronlezer3202 Thanks the the reply and useful info
that sounded good to me! but did feel like a tube amp?
I talk about it in the video ;)
This really does seem like a great practice, working man and small venue amp. It checks all the right boxes, it's not super noisy, has a great XLR line output that actually sounds great and not like poo, the ability for firmware updates, you name it.
DannyLlerenaTV twins are super loud! This could probably handle any gig you throw at it
Seems impressive
Indeed!
Thinking it’s not made in the USA ,like me 65 reissue twin reverb is,which I LOVE !
Love the production of this video! The light in this videos are so pretty haha
Thanks! 😃
You mentioned you'd demo with single coils and humbuckers, but you just stuck with the tele. Will there be a humbucker demo too?
There are humbucker clips in this video :)
g8 review and good amp..I played it @ Chgo music exhange
and thought it was the tube version until I moved the amp to cut it off
Then I knew smthg was off (too light).
Yes.
May I ask what pick youre using?
Nice sounding amp. As for sounding like a tube amp good but no cigar.
Got a tone master twin reverb. I keep hearing a digital “pop”...such a shame. I really liked it. It’s going back.
What was your solution? Another Fender amp?
BillyDee Williams why wouldn’t it be? The initial problem was the weight. You know what the Tone Master is?
Do ya'll wear your wedding ring on the right hand in Sweden (I'm guessing from the accent)? I know they do in parts of Europe, but just curious.
Norway :) And yes, we do!
@@LivingroomGearDemos ahhh I was close! Thank you for the reply
Heavenly good is right. This is an amazing amp. Hopefully reliability will last a lifetime like the tube versions. I highly plan on purchasing someday, for now my Orange crush pro is doing a great job.
Why the mike? It has an XLR socket!
Where’d you get the rad bar stool?
There is no master volume, so the attenuator allows you to push the channel volume and still play at a lower overall volume without adding a master volume dial to the circuit and make it look like something other than a clone of the original amp.
PRS Rocker duh! 😂
I am looking at this or a ‘68 Deluxe Reverb with the Walrus EB-10. Primarily indie rock and shoegaze with some heavier too. What would you recommend?
More headroom in this, especially good if you're doing heavier stuff!
What song is the the song thar he start playing at min 4:23
I think it's you that makes it good :) Get a newbie guitar player to demo it haha
:)
Not bad
Wish I could insert the not bad meme here
Pedals used?
Hey, it’s in the video!
What is this “entry level” amp thing I keep reading? A Twin is never ever an entry level amp.........modelling or tube! Too many shit cheap modelling amps out there to compare to this concept........a genius concept in my view...........well done Fender! 😎👍
Do not not be chomping at the but just yet my friend.needs to be out for a few years before considering this piece of crap.my circuit board 65 twin went on the brink last week.my point to point 65 super reverb still plays.i am thinking about making a 5e3 amp.
vs mustang gt ?
They used the same amount of processing power as the Mustang just to do the the reverb in the Tonemasters.
@@davidkeller6156 that's what they say
I used to plug my 1st strat into my hifi stereo had guitar input inp} 1974,sounded similar. Ss.
You honed in on the attenuator and how a transistor doesn't need attenuation you can only use a power soak when you want to take something off for the tubes transistors don't have a sweet spot No Such Thing The Sounds the same at every place
Where is the mustang??? :/
My Mustang guitar? It's in the studio mate
What's missing? Harmonic Complexity.
Is the shot of the tone knobs in the beginning seriously how you set that amp up?
The SRV tone?
Living Room Gear Demos Jesus Christ...are you serious?
I didn’t understand the question until now, relax. No it’s not how I set the amp.
@@LivingroomGearDemos Lol yes it is I can see it clearly even in the demo section, the settings look the same.
We are entering a golden age of modeling/digital amplification.
Very very expensive
i thought that to' just go and buy a decent second hand tube amp for a lot less money!! like a Fender blues junior' or a laney tube amp!!
That can't be the best Twin for clean you ever used. You didn't have side by side. MUST TURN VOLUME WHILE PLAYING to test.
OKOKOK
Your tone had a load of bottom end to it. Too much IMHO. I like the amp though.
No Tubes?! No buy!!
I enjoyed your review, but the Amp isn't that good ! Honestly it sounds like a typical Solid State Amp.
Kind Regards,
J...
Might want to go try one in person. Then you might understand wyy so many players are digging it.
The clean sound is OK but not great and I do not like the dirt sounds.
lol all this because their losing their market to the 50 dollar joyo american
If these dont have a decades long repairable life then the buyer is seriously getting ripped of
Same with any amp of that price. Modeling or not lol, they should have that sort of stuff.
listen, @@seb5542 an analog amp is repairable for a long time.
For the price I can get a nice used REAL twin reverb
Yeah but it's twice as heavy also its going need service sooner than later and doesn't have all the new stuff
