Arsenio Hall was the man who brought hip-hop to late night TV and introduced me and a lot of other people to amazing acts like Wu-Tang. He went off the air 25 years ago this month.
I was at this show. I used to have it on VHS because when they went to commercial, the camera would turn to the audience right were I was sitting every single time. My 5 min of fame. Wish I still had the tape.
They vibe too authentic. They really look like they just got up left the crib and went on the show. I fw this way more than how everybody be all extra tryna fit in the same box.
Arsenio and Eddie Murphy really need to get that love and respect. They gave a lot of young black artist that spotlight that really put them out there and helped there careers grow. Really showcased a lot of talent that turned these brothers and sisters who probably wouldn't have gotten on into millionaires back in the day.
"I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times sides staying alive was no jive. Had second hands, moms bounced on old man, so then we moved to Shaolin land." '
My god does this take me back to when hip hop could do no wrong. I remember watching this live & being impressed with this new crew’s swagger. Little did I know what was to come. Hip hop owes Arsenio a lifetime of gratitude.
