As a beginner everything is hard, even on electric. And if you just started because you want to play music that uses electric guitar there is absolutely no need to start on acoustic. It will only demotivate you more, because it's hared to play and you're not even doing what you wanted in the first place.

This is why I like to often practice electric parts on acoustic, it's like weighted training, makes everything a bit easier when you actually play it on electric.

I only play acoustic because that's all I got, the one my parents got me for Christmas in high school. I play fingerstyle, which is really difficult. You'll be spending months on just one song. Days or weeks on even one bar. Speaking of bars, bar chords are much more difficult on acoustic. It's just raw sound, so a lot of sound will barely come out. You have to push the strings down hard and hold it very firmly and precisely. That got me to thinking. If I can now play the acoustic guitar decently, with a bachelor degree in music in fact(though on a different instrument, but still helpful), then electric guitar might be a pretty easy switch for me.

I started on a classical guitar and I practice both electric and classical so this wasn't really a problem for me, my only problem is getting used to extended range guitars

  • @Fakedis

I started in classical so it's actually the other way around to me 😅
Can play arpeggios nicely and barre chords are easy but i estimate that any solo is like at least half a year away from me

I feel like classical and acoustic need a bit more differentiation 'cause I definitely think you could've pulled that off on acoustic... but I'm looking to deep into it your point is super valid lol. A lot of stuff that works on electric doesn't work on acoustic and it's just a fact. Very different instruments yet very similar 🤔
