Thank you Wave for presenting us this video that I watch again with pleasure. This is called world-class solo, what creativity, to think that Yoyoka was only 14 years old I think at this time, incredible.
First of all thank you Wave for your reaction and promoting Yoyoka, she is absolutely mind blowing and my favorite drummer. She always amazes me. 🐰🥁🐰🥁🐰
Nice choice Rob! Great job Wave! A year and a half ago YOYOKA say's " Uh, yeah, I can't play Jazz.". YOYOKA is clearly the "Fusion" in Jazz Fusion! I can't believe you used the "for her age" card. You know it's for ANY age.....lol She just keeps getting better almost weekly. The gift that keeps on giving! I've been predicting the YOYOKA /Senri duet for some time now. We all know how great Senri is, but a few years ago I went back and watched videos of the both of them independently at several different ages, and when compared age for age YOYOKA has always been a bit ahead. And she still shows that. It will be an epic performance when they eventually get together! And it will be much less than 10 years!
Thanks, Wave, for the great reaction, as always. "Mouth agape" LOL. When she switches to the traditional grip at the beginning, there are hints of Take Five, which she covered in one of her live request streams. I need to find it for another request.
Thanks for the reaction and a sincere salute for the recommendation...she amazes me every time....and I saw she has a new collaboration with Narada Michael Walden...a song he wrote for her... coming out in the coming days!! ...that should be fun...✌
When Wave says, "That's harder than it looks," I think, "It looks impossible, so apparently it's beyond impossible." I usually don't care for drum solos, but this was so varied, so mesmerizing, and so musical, I couldn't help being swept away.
Not to compare... But This Solo its reminds me of one of greatest Jazz Drummer in Indonesia... Wave... Like full of Enjoy the Grooves... Which is Great Rights... Especially at her ages nothing Impossible for her to more Improve Hhe...
Much as I enjoyed this solo reminds in places of Martin Drew, I think you should look also at her drum part in Traces of this same gig. It's relentlessly complex simply if that makes sense. She also did a mid number solo which is completely relevant. It's the next number but one in this same gig. Her sense of fun really shone in the following, encore number too.
I agree with this completely. I will request the encore if I can fine the video that Aki made from stage right (or is it left) of the whole performance. From this perspective you can really see all the wonderful accents and humor. She is a little too covered in the main video.
at the beginning, that is improv drum vocab. check Han Bennink Shoe Drumming in the Fresh Air Studio, he is a drum legend from amsterdam. he is best known for his clownesk elements.
I saw a interview with yoyoka where she said when she is drumming her mind is free to wander and she might be thinking about sorting that happen yesterday at lunch
The Hokkaido Hammer taps her way thru a jazz solo. She leaves me 🙊 speechless. Her May concert at the Baked Potato jazz club with the Ken Okada group featuring Yoyoka is a high point for me!

What else can you say? Yoyoka is phenomenal. 😎👍
The entire livestreamed concert was fabulous.
@@gregorytrotter6657 you know it!
I watched it a bunch!
As is the Baked Potato show!
I would argue the Baked Potato show was more enjoyable as a Yoyoka fan. She was so loose and looked as if she was having a ball!@@Rob-Yule

Keith warlock vibes. Yoyoka is seriously one of the top drummers on the planet!

Damn powerful
Yoyoka is one of the best drummers of all time and we will be mind blown by her for the rest of our lives.
GOAT??
Yoyoka needs to watch the great ginger Baker.
("HAVE MERCY PROF").
I have always said her genre is jazz. Most disagree with me but this is really who she is.
Has Yoyo played with Akira yet?
Dang.
