In/out motion by twist 2

  • The pink rod has prismatic joint with blue body.
    Twist the knurled grip clockwise to get out motion of the rod.
    Twist the knurled grip back to get in motion of the rod.
    The red pin fixed to orange core slides in the slot of green barrel cam.
    The green spring and suitable shape of the cam slot keep the rod stable at its in/out positions.
    The disadvantage of this mechanism: the in/out stroke length can not be large because the cam pressure angle must be kept small enough for easy motion.
    The mechanism can be applied to twist pens.

    Once torque is no longer applied, does the mechanism reset itself, spring back up or is it just from the animation ?

      I am looking for some design ideas that consume torque, sort of rotational damper. I see some ideas that turn rotation into linear movement and compress a spring but I need something that is reversible once torque is no longer being applied. Do you have something similar maybe in your models? Regards.

      Pay your attention to the straight slot on the green part.
      If it is shorter (no circular concave portion at the end of the helical slot), the pink rod will get back to its initial position once torque is no longer being applied.
