My only guess is that they were too busy trying to deal with the other corrupted surrounding them to where they couldn’t really keep an eye on chip while being able to defend themselves effectively, which eventually led to Chip dying due to being overpowered/overwhelmed by the repeter (or whatever that form of Peter is called)
Although if you were talking about as to how Chip even got himself into that situation in the first place, then I’m with you there because I doubt Chip would’ve been far enough from the group for him to be alone in the first place unless peter lured him out with a fakeout of him being uncorrupted before trying to kill Chip or something

It was an extreme situation of death or life, and Death was perhaps busy with a corrupt person and I don't think that occurred to Death during the fight, there were too many enemies to be able to talk.
