And the other thing is ; No matter how well equipped the SADC army is, the fact that they don't speak local languages, they will be seen as foreigners and the level of reciprocal cooperation will be much lower if any. The SADC Interventionist force of the late 90s, involving Zimbabwe, Namibia and Angola, had officers from Zimbabwe who spoke Lingala, Swahili and French. It is a key component in working in foreign nations. Zimbabwe's casualties were substantial but could've been worse were it not for the language advantage

The biggest question is how can a government send troops to a nation without adequate air support, the South African built Rooivalk helicopters are grounded due to lack of maintenance and funds.
Okay let’s go back to August 1998 the late Laurent Desire Kabila called on SADC for support, Mugabe sent his crack Commandos, Paratroopers and the elite SAS supported by a professional Zimbabwe airforce, BAE Hawk jets, Alouette helicopter gunships, Augusta bell Huey troop carrier helicopters.
They fought bloody battles managing to recapture the Inga Dam with Namibian troops trickling in and Angolan forces moving across the border to help motivated by late president Mobutu’s support of UNITA Angolas arch enemies at the time.
The biggest challenge is maintaining the morale of the troops, maintaining the little equipment the South African military has cried out for years to be replaced, we all know how the military suffered losses in the battle of Bangui in the CAR. The question is how did we get here Denel once a mammoth of a technological hub for the South African military hardware manufacturing industry? Old men in suits send young men to die in battle while they wine and dine!Food for thought 💭

The major mistake SADC has made is to include Tanzania in this mission. Tanzania was part of the Tutsi Triumvirate made up of Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda whose presidents were all Tutsi. Tanzania is likely to surreptitiously incline itself with Rwanda-based M23 rebels and thus compromise the situation. This poses a great danger to the SADC forces.

Sometimes when you talk about those minerals...it seems like you guys can use hands to pick them....guys those minerals need big machineries to dig them up! And those who has machines are western multinationals! Why always accusing Rwanda for stealing which doesn't have those machineries???? For me l think that those multinationals always divert the attention on Rwanda for them to have free hands! Of course when it comes to artisanal mining...Rwanda have the same rights like everybody to buy them! Western countries loves to have monopoly on everything! The conflict in this part of congo is the presence of the fdlr! Why are they special???? Rwanda has been asked congo to disarm them in the past 29 years...but congo refused....why???

Mbeki is wrong. They misunderstood the issues when they were in charge. Before 1994 the community living in the area never had major issues like what is happening now. In 1994 over 1.5million Rwandan flee to DRC. As a strategy to occupy the lands with Rwandan to capture the terrotories for economic purposes Rwanda a lot of those refugees in DRC to create the situation we are seeing today. Rwanda is organising masacres of those via the armed group the fund to attract the attention of the international community on a genocide towards the same community, as it happened in Rwanda, in DRC. Besides they are also going after the Hutus as they are scared that they organize themself to return overthrow Kagame. It's importation purposely of 1994 situation from Rwanda in DRC, for controlling the eastern DRC for economic gains. Their objective is to get the international community to intervene to protect against a genocide than as in 1994 they will ask Rwanda to intervene to bring peace. As most armed groups are sponsored by Rwanda then there will be no more fighting and Rwanda will officially administer the region...

Surprised the experts don’t mention the fall of Mobutu and the Second Congo War in 1996-97 between 7 different African nations including Rwanda, Uganda and members of rhe SADC bloc, which killed . 5 million Congolese and left the country in ruins. The. MONUSCO mission was created in 2000 to help the DRC recover and protect civilians against the many armed groups which sprouted up in the wake of the war, While MONUSCO was able to deal with most of these armed groups, they could not cope with the M23 rebels, for the simple reason that they were trained and equipped by neighboring Rwanda. In 2012, MONUSCO. created a Rapid Response Force with well equipped and well armed SADC troops and defeated M23 in 2013. As Chief of the MONUSCO Video Unit for 5 years, I witnessed this conflict first hand. The RRF was disbanded, and now M 23 has returned - again with Rwandan backing. MONUSCO is a scheduled to leave at the end of 2024, so there is a power vacuum in the making. There is a real possibility of a larger conflict in a repeat of the Second Congo War.

Tell the people the truth please - M23 terrorists are well armed and supplied by the President of Rwanda Paul Kgame which has been proved numerous times by the UN and our troops are underfunded, the same as was the case in the CentralAfricanRepublic. a few years ago. In the Congo our troops have no proper artillery other than mortars and no air support. These deaths can be laid at the door of President Ramaphosa for sending our troops while our defence force is in a deplorable state due to corruption by the ANC. And by the way they inherited a fully functional military 30 years ago and did not have to "reposition" themselves as your first guest mentioned , they should just have maintained the equipment. No Rooivalk operational ? How ridiculous

If M23 is so peaceful people why would 7 million people be displaced instead of staying in M23 captured territories. Can you tell what happened in Kishishe? After capturing the town you killed 300 innoncent civilians. Going back to Nairobi, why did you leave the negotiations to go capture Bunagana? And you have been returning to ask for negotiation. Do you want people to know what your demand to the government? To be given 40% of Military position in 3 provinces and also to be included in government and state owned companies. Why do the country have laws and a constitution. If you want a position there are democratic processes to follow.

Very sorry gentlemen that you are less informed, especially about why your SANDF being in DRC, secondly you aren’t aware of how much you you are losing. It is so pathetic that, the gentleman interviewed earlier mentions minerals as the main cause of the conflict! Totally wrong, the main issue here is that, the some citizens especially the Kinyarwanda speaking people are often denied rights to leave in their country.
Here SANDF is actually contributing to the DRC government, to destroy their own country than saving it. You can’t intervene correctly if you aren’t aware of what the cause for the conflict is. There should a prior consensus between SA government and DRC, on what/why SANDF should be there in first place and what possible solutions are, otherwise you just continuously contributing to just a mess.
