My band director showed this as inspiration to do our best. Hopefully this can be us next year!
The reason why there are adults playing with the kids is because the private lesson teachers were invited to play with the band as a final celebration. The 8th grade kids that played in the band last year were also invited to play again even though they are in High School now. I know this because I'm one of them.

For the last performance, the band director invited: previous year's 8th graders, private lesson teachers, existing band directors, a couple of HS band directors and probably a few other folks I missed. From watching other schools at TMEA, an invitation to other performers on the last piece is fairly common.
The closer was pretty much a celebration of all the folks that help make the band program a success from the past, present and future.
