    I’ve done a few custom engine mounts, I’d recommend having mounts all bolted to engine and then weld to frame, Also have the trans bolted up and do trans mount at same time.
    Be a pain to finally get to fit and trans won’t fit.

    • @davescheer5038
      @davescheer5038 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya I agree with ya, bolt the trans and trans mount and see we’re ya have to go from there , the pan and steering thing may work itself out or not , the way chads going now he may have to move the trans crossmember afterwards, 🤔

    Whenever I mocked up engines in my rally trucks I always kept the frame portion of the mount on the engine until I was happy with the fit then welded it onto the frame ....may make it easier for you that way

    The way I would go about it would be to cut the mounts off the frame, bolt everything to the engine and set it in place where you need it and weld the mounts back to the frame. You need more at least 1/2 to 3/4" clearance between the pan for the engine torque movement. Also, Chad keep in mind the low oil pan and your air ride when you lower it all the way down. something to keep in mind.

    Last night I watched Chad before going to sleep (adjusting the Merc's hood gap) and had a weird dream. I was carrying an engine in my bare hands and Chad was sitting on top of the intake while I carried it effortlessly. So weird that Chad is doing this engine video today! Ha, ha! You said the engine is very close to the steering box but don't forget, that engine will move some when you put the put to the metal too. Great job and thanks for the crazy dreams, Chad & Jolene!

    The best way to make sure the angle of the engine is right you need to install the transmission and mount it to give you the right angle where the engine will sit. Other then that its guess work, better to install both engine and transmission

    The cradle on the back of the engine stand has one bolt holding it into the pivot feature. Take out one bolt, like you were going to rotate the engine, and slide the cradle out of the stand. You can then use the cradle to help position the engine and make any adjustments

    Looks to me like you need some taller motor mounts. Jim's right.........the pan doesn't need to be lower than the frame. Those LS's have a taller than ordinary pan and it makes it hard to install on in an older car. Also there is a lot of distance between the core support and the engine. Hope there isn't a cooling issue.

    I'm late to the comments, but Jim mentioned he has a problem with his quadrajet carb flooding, and not being able to lower the floats enough. Its his fuel pressure being too high, even if its a new mechanical pump for his application, they seem to put out enough pressure to overpower the needle and flood. He will need a fuel pressure regulator, or get a delphi brand fuel pump. They seemed to put out the correct pressure.

    I had a 2007 Tahoe with a 5.3 engine. Those engines had a problem with how the top of the engine was vented and would use a lot of oil beginning at about 50K miles. I bought a new valve cover which had a different vent and was supposed to cure the problem. I sold the Tahoe before I ever installed it. I still have the new valve cover. Hope yours doesn't.

    Nice to see some engine work.
    I would change the motor mounts on the frame. A bit higher so you get more space on the frame and the steering parts, it is now out of suspension when you drop it it will touch the steering arms. It is a bit more work but it gifts you a lot of benefits.
    Motor mounts as the firtsway mounted, cut it of the frame and use fitted bolts. Position the engine in the center of the car and weld on some higher studs on the frame. (My thoughts)
    Do what fits for you 👍

    Should have welded two pipes together along the long edge so from the end it looks like an 8. Then a bolt goes through the top pipe through the motor mount. And another bolt goes through the bottom pipe circle through the frame motor mount. That would have spaced it down a pipe thickness, and allowed for a way to accommodate the need for up, but not out (the problem Jim was talking about).
