  • A more personal look at my (and my brother's) favourite childhood gricing spot, as it underwent significant changes earlier this year. Our parents were often asked on Saturdays, "can we go to Brock this afternoon please"?
    Perhaps not the most interesting of uploads for people who don't know the place, but I invite you to share memories of your own favourite places.

    A very imaginative record of this location which obviously meat a great deal to your family David...well done...Bob

      Thanks very much Bob. It's a shame when old haunts change, and it's funny how you can become attached to a place. At least most of the places on the S&C are largely as they were, for now!

    One thing I noticed is that the siren sounds differently everyday when a train is coming

      It appears in this vid that the crossing has two different but equally loud yodalarms. Though in that last scene where the lights are covered the alarms sound as though they're in ATC mode.

    • @rainbowlady1532
      @rainbowlady1532 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be precise at the 5:48 point of vid the alarms definitely sound as though they're in the Another Train Coming mode, just to clarify.

    A few years ago I came across this video
    And more recently when I tried to find it again, nothing
    I gave up hope... And then I found a link to it in the comments section of a video on another channel

      7:00 you say it’s the last place you can legally cross 125mph tracks, is norton slower than that?

    • @Linesider1
      @Linesider1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Conor Evans Ahh right got you, thanks. That caption talks about a sense of loss - that a 125mph crossing local to me has closed. I’m not saying that there are no other such crossings, just that this one has gone and it’s a loss to me.

      Conor Evans 👍🏻 I’ve only been through on the train I’m afraid. Think it’s on a curve, not sure what the views are like either side. Maybe worth a look at photos on Flickr?

    in sicily,
    there was this old,old crossing that had a bell and one light. That's it.
    when I was little I used to watch freight trains zoom past.
    until they closed it, it was very emotional for me.

    I went back recently to my old vantage point of the 50's and early 60's on the Midland near Harpenden at the East Hyde viaduct and it is still the same barring the overhead telephone wires which we used to shy at with ballast stones to hear the "twang". Happy days.

    • @Linesider1
      @Linesider1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which is precisely why I make the point in the video that the reasons for the footbridge are sound. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

    Yeah, I remember that when I was a child, I was driving to my aunt and we was driving near PKP train line Warsaw-Żyrardów, and on this way there was a lot of railroad crossing, but we was driving parallel to this line, so we wasn't driving trough any of them. But now I'm old enough and I decided to drive all the way to my aunt near PKP line to see these all railroad crossings. And then I got suprised, because they removed ALL railroad crossing and replaced them with viaducts and underground tunnels

      the parapets are in excess of 6 foot high, which means no-one would be able to see the trains.

    My favorite haunt was Bent Bridge south of Leyland station. You an see it from the M6 where it crosses the railway. My friend and I would cycle there from Blackburn, nearly everyday during the holidays. Happy days indeed.

      I live in Bristol now so I don't know what it is like any more. Not too good I should think now that the double semaphores are long gone. I used to love to watch them going up all the way back to Leyland station. There was also a very unusual semaphore heading south. It was for the Euxton juntion but had an arm with a home and distant and another shorter arm with a distant only for the diverging line.

    • @Captaincruncher-qy9hf
      @Captaincruncher-qy9hf 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +steven dawson A splitting distant, probably for going on to the up central (Chorley) line.
      I seem to remember that the Signal Boxes going out of Preston southwards were.....
      Ribble Sidings, Skew Bridge, Farrington Curve Jct, Farrington Junction, Bashalls Sidings, Leyland Station, Euxton Coal Sidings, Euxton Junction, Euxton Balshaw Lane Station, Darlingtons Sidings, Blainscough Sidings, Coppull Hall Sidings, Standish Jct, Victoria Colliery Sidings, Boars Head Junction, Rylands Sidings, Wigan North Western No2, Wigan North Western No1 Springs Branch No2, Springs Branch No1, Bamfurlong, Crosstetley Sidings, Long Lane, Golborne Stn No2, Golborne Stn No1, Golborne Jct, Winwick Jct, Winwick Quay, Dallam Branch Sidings, & Warrington Nos 5-4-3-2-1 boxes.
      At one point back in the 50s-60s all the regular signalmen who staffed Euxton Junction box were all from the same family (I think it was a father & two of his sons) who were all named Pincock & for a while the box was nicknamed Pincocks Junction.

      I had a model of the semaphore made for me a few years back. It takes pride of place on a shelf in my railway room( or the loft as it is known).
