    A ferrite bead with a conductor through it is an inductor and so is used as a low pass filter. Typical use is for power cables to reduce EMI.

      Also, you can't install this into a box. The beads have to be on the cables. The size of the cables is how the size of the beads has to be. Unless you have inferior beads on cheaper cables. This product is priced correctly, IMHO.

    Just add a solid state relay instead of a switch, then when you have alternator level voltage it supplies current to the charger. Then it turns off when you shut off the rig.

    Yep, like other person said about the dongles on the cords - they added those recently because of feedback. They’re apparently EMI filter/preventers. I bought the EcoFlow charger with the Delta two bundle. It was about $1000. Mine didn’t work. It keeps throwing an error code and I’m in the process of returning it. This is been a very common problem for people that bought them in May and June from Amazon.

      Me too. Have 8 of their products bought over the last 1 1/2 years. Regretting buying any of them, a Delta 2 has gone bad, 800w Alternator Battery Charger doesn't work. Support suggested everything I had already tried, did all again, but nothing has changed. Should of checked their Better Business rating before I bought anything from them. Support matters.

      Seriously though I've spent around 4k on their products and I now only have 1 that works. It sucks because I had family that bought products based on my recommendation and it just turned into such a big mistake for everybody. Sad to say I would never buy their products again. I didn't even get to use some of the batteries because they just stopped working or would never take a charge.

    i just installed it in my 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid - the battery is nice cause its right at the rear compartment so i left the charger box in the next compartment and bam plug it in it detected it in the app, I used my car hotspot to set it up to, i plugged it into the Deta 2 Max and it started charging i took a drive and it did go up to 800 however i manually put it to 650 which is enough. So now i have a power source for my future fridge for the road trips. I can monitor the Delta 2 and see the charger doing its thing. i have my voltage set to 12.7

  • @krisyoung447
    @krisyoung447 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Being able to set the voltage lower than 12V is great for people like me who want to use it to reverse charge their Ecoflow from a LiFePO4 battery. (You cant get full capacity at 12V. 10-ish would be even better.) That is a bigger use case for me than the alternator charger.

  • @kentbriggs
    @kentbriggs 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The reason the app lets you set a cutoff voltage below 13v is because the other use for this product is to connect it to standalone batteries (like a LiTime 12.8v 230 Ah LifePO4, for example), thus expanding your Delta 2's capacity immensely.

      @MrHsv123 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @kentbriggs
      @kentbriggs หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrHsv123 Same way he connected to his car battery/alternator in the video. Those LifePO4 batteries have threaded connections on the terminals. Or you can use alligator jumper clips, which is what I did to mine so I can easily attach to the car battery with the hood up and move it to the LiFePO4 battery I keep inside the house to use during power outages. And when the power comes back on I use the reverse charging feature to top the battery back up for next time.

    Nice product but I hate the fact that it doesn’t work when attached to a bussbar. I already have a 6awg the runs from the battery to my sprinter van garage. I tried for hours to put the +/- on the buss bar along with the EF 800W AC and kept getting 2 errors. Device Error and Charge Conductor Overcurrent. So I had to install directly to the battery and now have two cable runs.

    Great information. I had several questions about this device and my EcoFlow Dual Delta Pros so I ordered on and a couple of 'Walmart Specials' batteries. This device was every thing you showed and explained here. Easy as pie. But when I wired it up for 24V use I didn't get it to function in all modes. I could get the batteries to charge my DP's but the DP's could not charge them. Have y'all done any work with it on 24V systems yet?
    I am going to test whether both this device and the Smart Generator can charge my DP's at the same time. I know my DP's put up the same symbol if I had an expansion battery connected. Waiting on 2 more Smart Generator Plugs so I can connect everything to the DPs. Know anyone wanting to sell some? LOL

  • @nemo4evr
    @nemo4evr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    As per the comment about the quality, IMHO is that we are so used to buying components that are build like s#te that when we come across something in which the pencil pushers and bean counters of a company don''t get involved and have no input on the manufacturing process we actually get the quality we are paying for.
    Also that big dongle box at the end, if I am not mistaken I remember seeing them used to prevent feedback and mess up your stereo sound or other components, and I repeat I am not an expert, just speculating on their function, as a practical thing I can see why they might have done it, since if it breaks is easier to replace a cable than have to do surgery in the unit itself.
    Thanks for the review.

Even though it was out of warranty. I only used it when we lost power after a bad storm for a few days. It had stopped working. They offered a replacement. After a few reviews of other waves having issues, I asked for a refund. They honored that and gave me a refund for a product that was out of warranty. This is the first time in my 42 yo life this has ever happened. Their customer support is the best I have ever received. 24 hour support via text, but support nonetheless. Direct from the ecoflow FAQ.
      Will this product damage the alternator, starter battery, or affect the overall lifespan of the vehicle?
      No, the 800W alternator charger's charging logic does not rigidly apply 800 watts. Instead, it depends on the power surplus of the car's alternator. It ensures the alternator is not overloaded, allowing up to a maximum of 800 watts without harming the car's battery

    I'm curious why there is so little emphasis on the "Smart" capabilities of this device vs. "dumb" dc to dc charging or even the use of an inverter. This device is purposely designed not to kill your alternator or starter battery. Yes, there are cheaper ways to achieve near or even excess of 800 watts of charging power, but not without caveats. This all in one device removes many gotchas and additional equipment while providing reasonable levels of safety for the DIY'ers. $599 is not that high of a buy in for piece of mind.

    I was just charging my DP with EB from 80% to 100% in less than an hour. Fun fact, you can also connect solar to this while running the AC to help supplement the charging. It takes away my reason to buy the EF smart generator. The few things I don’t like about it is that they probably won’t sell the wiring separately so I can’t transfer from vehicle in to another, and also the removal tool has no place to mount. I just used industrial Velcro and stuck it on the unit itself. Awesome review guys!

  • @mattheword
    @mattheword 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I may be wrong but idk if you have to do all that with adding an in line switch. Just leave the alternator charger on when you turn the car off. Just make sure you have the “Start Working” toggled off on the app. You’ll see that option above the modes. When you do that it’s only powering that status light which shows red since the car is off and the voltage drops lower than the setting that you set it on (mine is set to 13v). Obviously if you leave it on for like a week that light could run the battery down but I doubt it’s drawing much. I’m not electrician but that was just my two cents after installing it in my truck.

      Actually just tested this and the device times out and shuts off overnight. So you have to press that small on button every time you get in the car to keep it charged. $599... ouch. It is in fact just a DC to DC with a low voltage protection. $109 and will universally work with an inverter, so yes you need a 100W inverter... still half the price and more versatile imo. I ground to the frame, in the back of my truck. Ran 1 power wire with a fusible link. I can push 460watts alone, it trips when I put 2 chargers (Bluetti) which pushes it over 900W on a 1000W inverter, it trips the inverter. I'm in maybe $320 and can run anything, fridge, chargers, tools etc... this is way to expensive for being so proprietary. I don't need to have a "solar gen" in my truck, just plug into the inverter.

    so, if you do put it on a switch, does it automatically turn on when re-powered? or doyou have to flip the switch, then go turn the unit on?

      i've seen other videos where it shuts itself off when you take the keys out of the ignition, so maybe there's been a firmware update? not sure

    Lithionics Battery make a 51 volt alternator. This may be a great pairing.

    It's a second generation product, but new to the US/International market, that's why it's so polished.
    They released gen1 here in China a year ago, it only had 500w charging and looked much like a traditional 12/24 Dc converter... It wasn't universally well received because it relied on a movement sensor to allow charging - logic being if the car was in motion then the engine was on... Stupid and janky, so they fixed it...

    Install a golf cart style plug connector and you will be able to use this on multiple vehicles. Then it is a sure enough plug and play.

    Question would a high output alternator be the perfect fit for a system like this??

    i see a lot of people deciding to get rid of solar panels in favor of this type of product. Is it one of the reasons for solar is to be self reliant , on your own, not tied to the grid! to do this you need redundant systems so you should keep the solar and or a small genny if your car wont start!

    I like this, but for that price I’d rather just use a 1000w ac inverter for $130. The only cool thing I’d miss is the reverse charging

    Don't install it in the car. You can even make a box for this thing. Take it with you. Charge your battery when you arrive by using quick connects and this device.

      I disagree.
      When I go out somewhere I want to be able to turn off my car, enjoy where I’m at use the eco flow as needed and then be able to turn on my car and recharge it if needed or let it charge in my drive somewhere.

      Yes hook up same exact way to the 12V battery. When vehicle is on the car uses a DC-DC converter to take the battery pack voltage down to about 14V to simulate an alternator and keep the 12V battery charged. The 12V battery runs all the 12V electronics like your FM stereo and all the other things normal gas cars have. I have a Chevy Bolt EV and it puts out 1600W peak/1200W continuous at 14V from its DC-DC converter. More than enough to run this device for sure. Would be great to access its 66kWh car battery to charge my 2 DP and 2DP extra batteries running my house if the solar does not provide enough. I will wait and see if they come out with.a V2 that can pull more than 800 watts. 1200watts would be perfect for my car's 1200w continuous or others that have high output alternators...

      @@kylesylvester2710Just a heads up, as I have the same car. Don’t try to draw the max, remember the car has some overhead even in idle with everything turned off that is user controllable, such as coolant circulation pumps, control systems, inverter overhead, etc. To be honest I’m not planning to draw over 1000 and may limit myself to just 800 watts. The Bolt can get in to an annoying fault condition if the voltage drops too low repeatedly in a short period of time.
