Having been a farmer’s wife for 52 years, these sayings are all good. I can remember my father-in-law telling these quotes with a lot of his own. My husband went to the barn with his dad when he was 8 years old, heard, remembered & tells these stories often. We have 4 sons &
2 of them stayed farming, my hope is that one day their sons can quote their dads. It is a great life for kids learning to work, be responsible & enjoy the open air.

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and beautiful story! It’s truly amazing how these timeless sayings connect generations and hold so much wisdom. Your family’s farming legacy and the values you’re passing down are truly inspiring. It’s wonderful to hear how the stories and lessons continue to shape your sons and, hopefully, their sons as well. Farming truly is a remarkable way of life-teaching responsibility, hard work, and a deep connection to nature. Wishing you and your family continued joy and success on the farm! 🌾😊

@@bellakim93 In the 1990s, one of my co-workers was a man who had lived and worked in California for a company that combined self-scheduling with shift differentials. More about that system at your request if you aren’t familiar with how it works.
Mr. Beene would still have been working for that company were it not that his wife had left him and moved to Utah - and he had moved to Utah to be nearer to his son. Mr. Beene was the person who told me about his former employer combining self-scheduling with shift differentials. Such a plan had never occurred to me before.
My mention of asking potential employees about their availability was because of my mother’s theory that people who have no other obligations or responsibilities than a job are seldom very efficient workers.
Over a period of four years in the early 1970s, I hired dozens of people because I was the manager of a small factory in Pennsylvania but I hadn’t applied for that position. I was invited by the owner of the business to be the manager. It seems to me that most business owners and most business managers are in those positions because they want to come as close as legally possible to “owning” their employees - i.e. they thrive on being able to tell people not only what to do but how and WHEN to do it.
In Pennsylvania, I continued to use the policies the company had in place (meaning that I didn’t ask potential employees about their schedule preferences or their availability) but I did suggest one change. I explained to the owner my theory that it would be more efficient use of the available space to increase the amount he had been paying as bonuses for employees who did more work than was required than to hire more employees. He implemented my suggestion.

Why should one not spread manure before a storm? I should think the rain would help the nutrients soak into the ground. And after a storm the ground would be more likely to be muddy, making it difficult to pull the spreader through the field.

    • @Llianna12

Great observation! While rain can help nutrients soak in, spreading manure before a storm can actually wash away a lot of the nutrients, reducing its effectiveness. The muddy ground after a storm can also make it harder to spread properly. It's all about timing!
