We're happy to have you, and happy you appreciate our river. I grew up on the Lower Hoh, on the reservation, right at the mouth. It truly is beautiful there, right? I feel guilty at times that I take it for granted so much, since that's the only place I saw for 27 out of my 29 years here on earth.
I took out at the Oil City trailhead. Depending on the flows you may be able to paddle back up (especially in a sea kayak), but I just hiked my boat up the trail from the mouth.
@@samPNW great to know. We paddle the coast a lot but have never put in near the Hoh River. Ruby Beach is a huge hike down withe the boats but Oil City might be a good launch for a trip north with a shuttle.
@@gmontlake Would definitely make a good launch for a paddle north. I've used Ruby Beach as a launch before for sea kayaking out to Destruction Island and it is a carry. I think you could find a way to put in close to the Oil City trailhead that would be much less of a carry. Your trips along that coastline look incredible, need to put that on the list to check out!
Spoke to another couple of guys who said it is easy to paddle upstream to Oil City and they use it as a take out in Summer for trips from LaPush so the predominant weather is at their backs.
Beautiful scenery. Great music choice

Thank you so much! The river is truly a special place, I can only imagine the strong connection you have to it growing up there!
Cool trip! Such blue clear water.
Nice jams to go with the great scenery.
I live in WA and am definitely adding this to my TODO list!
Do you think the paddling would be any better at a higher flow?
I think it would be good with a little more water in it, up to 2500cfs or so, but there is A TON of wood, so could be scary at high flows.
Love your kayaking videos btw!
Do you think I can make it in a still water/ flat bottom kayak?
Where/how did you take out at the end? I heard you cant shuttle on the reservation there. Is it possible to paddle upstream to Oil City trailhead?

Would this be doable with current flows sitting at around 560cfs?

Do you know anywhere near the Hoh rainforest where I could rent a kayak?
No, I don't. I think there is somewhere in Port Angeles that may rent kayaks, however, I don't know their policy on renting whitewater kayaks.
