    This is why more people need to appreciate B&M's engineering and design ~~ They have literally made maintenance so easy for parks and they just deliver a high quality product through little things we don't notice ~~ I mean Behemoth, Yukon Striker, and Leviathan at my home park, Canada's Wonderland are super reliable. And because the controls are almost the same for each ride, it takes no longer than maybe 5-10 minutes for the ride to start up again. But even then, those are super rare to happen on B&Ms. I was in line for Behemoth wth some friends and because of some mechanical failure in the station, of course they had to stop the ride. We chatted with the ride operator just for fun, and maybe after like 10 minutes or 15 minutes, the ride was back up. It doesn't take that long for B&M coasters to be ready again after very minor downtime. Yes B&M is not the most extremely innovative, but their products are in my opinion the highest quality of roller coaster out there.

    • @streamoflillies2345
      @streamoflillies2345 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Canada's wonderland was the park of my teens, and although Yukon Striker opened after I moved away, I remember Leviathan and Behemoth with great fondness. Because their restraints were more of a modified lap bar than over the shoulder (which tend to also be beside your head if you are shorter) I found them more comfortable to ride than some of the other coasters at the park.
      However, I did find the ride experience between the two rather similar (So I would spend more time on Behemoth bc Leviathan was newer and so nearly always had a longer queue). And I just watched a POV of Yukon and it looks to be another 'the same but bigger' situation, like Leviathan was to Behemoth, and I don't know if having all 3 in the same park is really worth it

    • @andreb732
      @andreb732 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah.. Reliability is the big win for B&M.. But at the cost of innovation. If all companies would do this, every park would have the same set of coasters and layouts. They could perfectly innovate more (especially in their layouts, since that has nothing to do with the technical aspects of the ride) without lowering their uptime.

    Nicely put together! B&M has remained my favorite manufacture since I was since introduced to them back in the early 90s. Quite honestly, 50% of the thrill of coasters, to me anyway, is riding them. The other 50% is the engineering that goes into them. Yes, there are more thrilling rides from other manufactures but as far as a park getting what they paid for, B&M have consistently proven themselves with reliability, safety and throughput. I absolutely love all the little things they created that not a lot of people would understand, just like you said in this video.

      B&M coasters are beautiful works of pure engineering wizardry, but you have to admit they do all feel a bit samey. I kinda feel like once you've ridden one of their models, you more or less experienced most of them, which I don't feel with say, Intamin and the insane amount of different ride types they produce. Plus the excessive amount of trim brakes on their hypercoasters are a bit of a bummer

    Kind of an unfair comparison between Jersey Devil and Orion. Yeah, we all know RMC Raptors relatively low capacity, but they aren’t intended for big parks. Six Flags just wanted one for Great Adventure because it was cheaper than similar-sized coasters from other manufacturers.

    • @andreb732
      @andreb732 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Other manufacturers get similar or even better capacity with smaller trains than B&M. So their capacity really isn't that great. Hagrid for example does 50 people more per hour, but with only 14 people per train. Where as Orion can fit a whopping 32 (more than double) people in a train. Colorado Adventure has a bit bigger trains than B&M (36 people) but transports 600 people per hour more than Hagrid.
      Disney is all for capacity, yet they nearly always go for vekoma.. and there is a good reason for that.

    I agree with the prototype thing. They have created many different roller coasters, but none of them are really considered prototypes. For example, Leviathan was their first giga coaster, so technically that was their prototype giga coaster, but also, they are similar to their hyper coasters, if not pretty much the same, in terms of controls, trains, design, etc. So of course, their experience with their hyper coasters is pretty much transferred over to their giga coasters :)

    B&M's are incredible, and they're the best manufacturer. But they're not my personal favorite. B&M's offer a fun, smooth experience which is great for the GP and they're almost always a guarenteed success. However I prefer Intamins and RMCs. I like the hectic out of control experiences, B&M's tend to have the more 'majestic' and drawn out ride experiences. The average B&M is not nearly as intense as the average Intamin or RMC. So I agree with all your points. B&M creates the best coasters, but they're not my personal favorite. I know its almost cliche umong enthusiasts at this point but my favorite manufacturer is RMC with Intamin close behind. B&M is my third favorite.

I will tell you, this ride was EASY to train staff from loading, unloading, evacing, safety checks. EASY. This is ride almost NEVER broke down. They are really geniuses when they designed the floors to sink and split was pure amazing engineering. I loved this ride. There was only one other ride the beat its compacity and that was another B&M ride call Nitro. B&M will build any coaster type the customer wants.

    Question about #9- the lift trim. Why isn’t this feature included on newer B&Ms? I thought this trim was used to take stress off of the lift hill chain by keeping the train at a constant speed until it was disengaged from the chain.

    I have to correct you on number 9. B&m did Not implement this on all it's rides. The comparising to the vekoma is also not fair and misleading.
    The vekoma coaster shown in the video is 'Python' in the Efteling, Netherlands. It's an old coaster from 1981 and was back in the day unique for it's time. Being the 7th official Vekoma Coaster ever build.
    B&M officially started building coasters under their own name in 1990, so already 9 years after Python was build. The first 8 coasters build by b&m, which are most still operating, did not have the trim brake after the lifthill.
    It wasn't untill their 9th coaster, Apollo's Chariot in Bush Gardens Williamsburg, build in 1999, that they implemented it.
    Bottom line, this accident could also have happend on a B&M rollercoaster as it did on this old vekoma.

    I just have a few things to ask/say
    1. Do the lift hill trim brakes default to the open position or closed position?
    2. Why’d you throw shade on i305, when it has significantly more capacity than Superman: Ultimate Flight, while also having one less train?
    3. I’m not sure how many people agree with me, but S&S made a much better vest restraint in terms of comfort. However, knowing S&S, they probably don’t have the best design...

I may trigger some people by saying it, but I personally prefer the b&m over the intamin coasters except one. Rougarou is my only exception, if rougarou had the vest restraints then I would of ranked it higher, no matter how many times I ride rougarou, I get off with a slight headache from the head banging. But I do prefer steel vengeance the best in the park, because of all the air time and smoothness. But I rank raptor, gatekeeper and valravn over millenium force, Maverick and top thrill dragster. They have 2 lanes where they can load up guests on one train while another is being sent off. Meaning you don't have to wait till the train has left to start loading guest. While I don't work there so I don't know the ins and outs. It seems like it never has too long of a line. Best Vest Restraints? I don't think that this point should go to B&M, the ones used on the latest Vekoma Coasters like Formula or Lech are way better than the ones from B&M.
    On a side note, Vekoma also started to use little side wheels for train Storage / Maintenance on their newer coasters. You can easily see this when Formula only operates 1 Train because the storage "building" is really just a large tube tent with a metal fence on the side with the exit path.

If the dispatches are one minute apart, that already bumps the throughput up to 720 pph. Also, the other Raptors only pull 600, yet they have one less train and four less riders per train. I would have thought this ride will pull at least 720 pph for it's max capacity based on that.

      The lifthill did not start again, the sound you hear is the anti rollback+the chain hill hook moving forward. What happened was that they unloaded the back of the train and when they wanted to unload the front, the weight on that side of the train was heavier then on the other side of the pre drop. Which made the train starting to move again due to gravity.

Air, first prototype B&M flying coaster, was assembled at a testing facility in North Africa for a while before being shipped to Alton Towers. Then Oblivion, a prototype dive coaster that could not dive vertically because of not being able to distribute the load reliably between the road wheels and upstops. B&M have since perfected and built multiple versions of both coaster types. I think Europa Park went to B&M for Silver Star because MACK didn't have the resources yet, but if they did at the time have those resources and the technology then MACK Rides would have made it. MACK Rides went into the thrill coaster market in 2009 with Blue Fire so they didn't have the technology yet in 2002, and since B&M had a good reputation of reliability and capacity they went for them.
