- Caterpillar D12 Bulldozer
The D12 is said to be larger and more powerful than the D11, Caterpillar's largest dozer to date. It is rumored to be powered by a 12-cylinder diesel engine capable of producing up to 1,500 horsepower. The D12 will also likely feature a new blade design and advanced undercarriage system to handle the increased weight and power.

It’s a custom made machine in Australia, nothing to do with cat themselves. Google custom d12 Australia, it’s not that hard. It’s a d11 that’s been lengthened , widened, & has a motor from a 789 dump truck in it

Can't see cat make a bigger production dozer for a while yet .The komatsu d575 failed miserably & nevermind the logistics of transportation of parts to the site .There comes a stage when size becomes a disadvantage rather than an advantage.

if its a modified D - 11 its still a D- 11 call it what you want there is no D - 12 produced by caterpillar yet.

They made 1 here in Australia. From what i have learnt it was made not by cat, but by a mining group or similar and not for production but for their own use.
Ran a Cat D22 RT a few times! Which actually 2 D11s a R & T series pushing side with blades together! Also we put a D10N,D9H, D11N,D10R all together in on solid push, I was actually on D10R guy on D9H said he was just along for the ride ! He was afraid dirt was going to roll over blade on top of him!

There is a market for a D12.
I think the only reason they haven't built it is it will replace the D11 in a some of the cases. If that is the case it just would hurt D11 sales which doesn't help Cat.

My father's Sand plant had a D12 this was the late sixties and early seventies. It took a V8 to start it.

Interesting video. I used to work repairing Cat Tractors, mainly D6, D8, D9 and D10 flat Track and High Drive variants. As I see it the design base for the heavier High Drive Tractor made the Machine unsuitable in soft conditions but also put a lot of strain on Track adjusters, idler Trunnion Caps and Pivot Shafts. The D11 was in my opinion the absolute limit for the High Track design layout. Introducing a larger Tractor (D12) on the current design platform I don’t think is viable so a redesign would be needed to deal with the huge forces generated from say a 785Engine through a Multi stage Torque into a Planetary Powershift and combined Final Drive. It’s not beyond Cats ability to produce such a Machine but for R&D investment and product certification they would need to sell 100’s of Machines a year worldwide, interesting.

@@Podus81 it’s not for me to say but like all designs they evolve over time. A smaller, faster more powerful Tractor might appear when tech allows for it.

A Caterpillar D12 would encounter the same problems that kept the Acco Super Bulldozer from being practical, Such as it was too big to transport it from one place to another. The Cat D12 would end up in a museum just like the Super Bulldozer is now.
It is possible that the D12 bulldozer can be assembled at the job site, making transportation easier.

Komatsu D575A-3 SD (SUPER DOZER) is bigger than the D11 at 168tons compared to the D11's 124ton. I can definitely see CAT coming out with a D12 version to match Komatsu's.

Komatsu has not made a 575 for some year's now due to cost per unit and need or order's SO WHY would Cat make a D12???? It would requiere a completely new MASSIVE build line little if any of the D11 could be used?? And I don't belive it would be twice as big as a D11 not in a long shoot!!!! DON"T SEE IT HAPPENING but you can always dream!!

The only D12 is in Australia and they're just a modified D11 it's not a production model and most likely never will be because mining is not as big as it used to be if they were gonna produce a D12 they would've already done it when Komatsu did the 575 SD

Why would Cat develop a D12 when the Komatsu 575 was discontinued due to lack of sales? They wouldn't. Then there is the issue of transporting such a large machine, already no small feat with the D11.
Cat is different from Komatsu, where later if possible Cat will release the D12 which is easy to transport.

This is a myth. There’s no need and no plan to ever build anything bigger than a D11. Look at what happened to the Komatsu 575! The 475 is a monster and one hell of a machine I have to say, even though my patriotic roots scream Cat Cat Cat! Those Japanese engineers know how to build a world class machine, I guess they both have their good points and their detractors. The only thing that really matters to me is no more frickin AI crap! Wait until you’re standing in the unemployment line and can’t feed your family or your children, then maybe those engineers will start to take it seriously! 🇺🇸🇯🇵💪👊🤙

The Acco dozer was built in the early 1980s, largely with Cat parts and considerably bigger than the 'Kummagutsa' D575, but Cat has apparently shown zero interest in taking that up.

Caterpillar has never made a D12. The only D12 that was ever made was made by a company in Australia, who took a D 11 and improved it and added weight to it and called it a D12.
