    The old sharpeners cut the wood in the direction from the tip to the eraser. The new Exacto and Bostitch manual sharpeners have helical blades that cut in the opposite direction. The effect is that the new sharpeners feel as if they are drawing in or devouring the pencil. 😮

    This was very helpful, I found that the pencil was not inserting completely into the bore, but it looked clear of graphite on visual inspection but I could not see down into the inner center. Looking at how the components fit together via your video I was able to avoid taking everything apart and rather stuck to poking down deep into the roller mechanism to look for chunks of graphite, I did this by using a thin drill and gently drilling into the center, and sure enough it was packed with graphite pieces which were invisible to the eye, color matching the machined steel. So simply using the drill to gently loosen and then tapping the sharpener on its end to shake out the pieces opened up the blockage. Now working perfectly and re-mounted on the wall. Again many thanks for your video!

    I really like the general idea of these videos and I look forward to seeing more.
    Just some feedback:
    The video is still a bit long for such a simple mechanism.
    It might also help to clear some of the things from the background as they are a bit distracting.
    Having a separate camera for close up shots seems like a fine idea however it takes a while for the camera to focus and sometimes is unable to focus on what you are talking about.
    Hope this helps somewhat if didn't know about these points already.

    Thanks. Had no idea the handle unscrewed to remove the cutting assembly. This helped me change the cutters on my old sharpener.

    Hello, amazing video.. I have a question about the numbers inside the sharpener? Does it mean month and year of the production? :)

    The one I have looks new but the gears seem jammed. I tried WD40 but no luck. It doesn’t appear rusty, but simply somehow stuck. I’m a little nervous about taking apart but suppose that’s the only option. Too bad because it looks bran new.

      They aren't blades. It is wrong that he calls them blades. They are gears.

      @Mingus8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PATRICKJLM Alright, is that because a blade is supposed to be straight, or? This is helical.

      @@Mingus8 Blades are sharp and that's why they need sharpen. This is just two gears - their "teeth" aren't sharp.

    You can easily tell these US made sharpeners are made to last compared the Chinese made that are made to be trashed after 3 months of use.🤣🤣🤣
