Great deal. It'd be around 6 year since they sold for around $10-15 working. Crazy how much they've gone up in resale value. Great to see another 10 being put back in to gamers' hands too. I think you got incredibly lucky with the simple fixes too! Look forward to the update vid.
Yeah its hard to get them that cheap still. I thought for sure at least 1 would be a clapped out water damaged write off but surprisingly all went well!

I have seen those on ebay but these 10 I managed to get in Australia

@chickenmaster121 all but 1 which had a ton of water damage. I haven't sold em yet, but im glad im making my money back.

how do you find these so cheap broken? most of the time i see them upwards of 40 bucks
1 guy had all of them listed for $25 each from memory, I offered $150 for all 10 and he took it. Most singular ones are overpriced. I did a more recent video where I got 30 of them from the same guy for $400 posted. I assume he works at some sort of electronics recycling centre to have so many broken ones.

where did you find a deal like this? All the broken ds i pick up are all flooded with water damage. (maybe i am just unlucky)
Also is there a difference in how the replacement frame for the top screen looks and feels compared to the original one.
I sent an offer on eBay to a guy $150 for all 10, he was trying to sell them individually for around $30 each so got lucky there.
Not really, slightly different and sometimes the hinge area needs to be adjusted cause the pieces won’t fit in but they do the job for being about $3

As someone who's starting to get into DS Lite modding, this video is a huge help, thank you!
Have a question though, if you encounter those shoulder buttons that need a harder press to get them working, what's the best solution? The one where you take out the actual metal dome from the switch, or is contact cleaner (or 99% IPA) enough?
No worries!
I usually spray some contact cleaner or ipa into the switch and press it multiple times, sometimes need to apply the spray more then once. If they're still dodgy after a few goes I will replace the switch

Really nice job. I would also love to start doing this more often but I don’t have the money to actually start doing this. I have destroyed 2 top screens trying to swap in a new screen on my ds. it is quite demoralizing tbh
Yeah I started out small only 1 at a time kind of thing to keep costs low, also ruined the first 2 top screens I tried. Just gotta practise a bit more and its a piece of cake!
@@chickenmaster121 my soldering iron is really bad and anything would be an upgrade. My iron doesn’t get as hot as yours and takes a bit longer to melt the solder. I also can’t control temperature. I also don’t have leaded solder wire as I bought the non leaded one which I partially used in a chemestry experiment
That's what my first iron was like as well, $15 at bunnings it was rubbish but I got use to it. Get some leaded solder and some flux and practise, if you still have the top screens you broke just try doing the speakers for it a couple times

was really cool to watch you fix these! how much are you willing to sell each of these for? I already have a pink one but i might buy another colour for the fun of it 🤣. I really like the light blue one (it’s my favourite colour) :D.
Ill check what the average going rate on eBay is at the moment and base it on that. The green one isnt done but if you wanna buy it when its ready I can let you know

I could only find 1.5 A (32V and 0603) fuses available for purchase. Any issues with that? Or it has to be 0.5A?
How do you select consoles to fix? Because you can't possibly just fix any broken console that comes your way; there must be too many. Heck, I've got a DS Lite and a New 3DS XL that are broken that I *don't even need anymore* but that I can't offload easily because almost nobody is interested in repairing broken systems. I've reached out to local hobbyist video game outlets to no avail.
Whatever is can find that is reasonably priced and isn’t a complete disaster. At the moment it’s not a case of to much for me but to little! I am always looking to buy more stuff if you want to offload them, but I’m based in Australia so postage may be a bit much depending on where you are. If you are keen let me know

Man. I remember having an DS lite when I was a kid.. good times.
The glory days
you can revive the top screens with screen cancer with some elbow grease and patience. take off the display cover and scrub (not too hard as to not break the lcd itself) the black pixels with a qtip. they will move around, you can push them over the edges. l usually do this half an hour each for a few days, leave the console for another few days, turn on and pixels gone... top screen saved.
I would have thought they were dead pixel not screen cancer. I guess the next one I find with that problem there's no harm in opening the screen up to try it
@@chickenmaster121 they are indeed dead pixels, but you can revive them by moving them around. let me know how it went. ;)
The post where the trigger spring sits between broke on my ds lite any suggestions to fix it?
Might just have the glue the post in place and hope it holds

Thanks, bought a broke red ds lite so im gonna try my hand at repairing it, swapped the battery and won't start up but it kinda does when plugged in, so I'm gonna open er up and clean the board and see if there's any issues with the soder points

I still have the last 4 which need the top screens replaced, my screens haven't arrived yet
