Imst Alpine Coaster - High Speed Pursuit

    When I rode this Austrian Alpine Coaster it was the longest in the World. My first ride took 5 minutes • Long Alpine Coaster (I... but I tried on my next ride to see if it was possible to complete it faster than 5 minutes. After 3 minutes all was going well until we caught up to my friend Chris...so for the final 2 minutes we chased him in a high-speed alpine coaster pursuit. Please forgive the screams and over-excitement at the beginning of the ride...but at full speed some of those corners and bumps in the track are a little scary! Also please note that the video was filmed during a private event and not when the coaster was open to the public.

    It is my understanding that when given today's advancements in Fighter Technology, many of the free world Air Forces are sending their best pilots to Austria with the intent to ride this coaster in an effort to weed out potential future problems in their ranks. Not only does this coaster test the limits of human endurance under extreme G loads, it also provides the Aviation Medical Professionals with a stating base line for all future testing to be applied as new technology continues to be developed and deployed. We truly live in exciting times if I may say!

      404UsernameNotFoundX Every time I would ride the fast lane there was ALWAYS some slowpoke, usually a girl, that took that lane then fucking died. I always bumped them and yelled to speed up. Never had a great ride because of these types of people.

    • @davidjellis
      @davidjellis  8 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      There is always a risk of getting behind a slower rider...happens a lot and it's very frustrating - that said, it isn't an excuse for breaking the safety rules of the ride, sorry.

    • @stefs
      @stefs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      it happened to me when i was a kid. i always tried to go full speed, but due to lacking body weight i even ground to a full halt at one point (unintentionally). the operator urged me to get going again ... and it did. i've got no idea why i fully stopped back then (i wasn't scared of the speed or anything), it just happened. i guess max speed is dependent on body weight, so it'd be no surprise mostly (smaller) girls are the slow pokes. it's not their fault.

  • @LelandGreen

    Loved it! I'd never heard of these, either. Don't apologize for the screams & excitement. That made it fun--and *more real*!
    I know that the closer to the ground you are, the faster it feels like you're moving. So that's probably why people say you must be going faster (than 26mph). Although it does seem fast! (And like you said, if you're 300lb, it probably is faster.)
    I'll bet those little bumps really "get your belly", as we say here in the Ozarks. :) That was always the fun part of coasters for me, but they'd just have a few. This has one after the other.
    The prices are really cheap, too.
    I've got to check your playlist(s), now! :) Thanks for posting these!

    Years and years ago at Alton Towers I went on an all weather bobsleigh ride down a fibreglass track. I was only about 12. Partway down a wild rabbit popped out the side of the track, leading me to panic and lean the other way, flipping the sled of and up in the air whilst I slid down the fibreglass burning skin off my arms, legs, back and torso. I was dazed and took a while to gather myself. Nobody came to my aid, yet no further sleds came down. There were screens showing the track from the top but I must've come off in between cameras. The first person I saw was my dad who was wondering where I'd got to as my sister had safely returned to them. That was SO DANGEROUS! Not one person helped me except my dad who just took me away from the area to get treatment rather than kicking off at the ride. The wounds took months to heal, with hindsight I should've had skin grafts as there was no skin to heal over, then they got infected too. The ride was removed and something else put in its place the next time we went but my parents never complained so I expect others would have come off it too

    • @davidjellis
      @davidjellis  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those types of ride (alpine slides / toboggans) are potentially unsafe as you can indeed come off them if going too fast for the conditions (I came off twice on the longest one in North America in August last year and my elbow is still sore) - the ride in this video is an alpine coaster and fixed to the track so you cannot capsize or fall off, so not a safety risk. I like the alpine slides, but will think twice after coming off that one last year before I attempt one at speed!

      There are three similar coasters in the US Appalachian Mountains (Pigeon Forge area in Tennessee), one has a covered car and windscreen for rainy weather... slow in comparison, probably due to aerodynamics, and on that one you spend a long time "climbing" on the rail (pretty boring).

    I don't know if it's just me, but this looks a thousand times more fun than those giant B&M rollercoasters at theme parks that have these huge overexaggerated drops and loops, while the actual ride lasts only 2 minutes. Love the scenery as well. Someone should invent a form of transportation like this lol. Would make for one interesting trip to work every day.

    • @davidjellis

      Yes i agree 101% this one is getting in touch with nature yet getting the best adrenaline kick out of it unlike the indoor city roller coasters which is now becoming a cliche, unless is backwards roller coaster like the one in japan. & the best abt alpine coasters is that i can control my own speed which takes more courage to speed up than just choosing to sit on a normal roller coaster...now i got mountain coaster added into my bucket list if i go to Austria / Swiss next time

    Glad to see that you took having a slower rider in front of you with good humour. There's at least one TH-cam vid where the rider goes berserk at having to slow down for someone; he yells, curses, rams the cart in front of him, and does other unpleasant things.

    • @davidjellis
      @davidjellis  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am aware of that video, as the guy that did it tried to copy my 'no brakes' video and failed miserably. On this occasion the person in front was a friend of ours so it was all good friendly banter :-)
