    about the mafioso/mafia slang: in the 90s, a lot of east coast rap adopted that mafia type personality in their records. you had nas who had the firm, big with the mafia and the planned commission, jay z's reasonable doubt, obviously the wu, even puff who had his production team called the hitmen, would refer to them as 'goodfellas'. they also adopted that in their videos too.
    hell even death row, when snoop had the whole dogg father movement and they all started rocking suits. this was partly because of movies like goodfellas, casino, donnie brasco, mobsters, which were all popular mob/mafia movies that came out in the 90s. east coast hip hop was heavily influenced by this

    The hook that Biggie is singing came from a reggae song that was hot in the early '90s... it was Shabba Ranks - Don't Test Me... he just took their hook and put it into this song. Biggie is of Jamaican heritage, btw. He was born here, but his parents are from Jamaica.
