The focus on sibling rivalry diverts our attention away from another deep-seated source of violence which is tribal rivalry, such as that between the Israelites and the Canaanites. The Hebrew scriptures really do condone and encourage violence against other tribes who worship "strange" gods.
I also don't believe Paul would've taught replacement theology, especially as he speaks of Christians being grafted into the fold. However, the Christian testamant is sometimes rather freely narrated and it well could be that somewhere along the way someone put a few words in Paul's mouth.
Paul is quite clear that God has *not* abandoned the Jewish people in his Letter to the Romans. His ode to Israel, the image of Gentiles being grafted 'unnaturally' into the People of God pretty much leaves without a shred of doubt his views about his people whom he loved deeply.
