Glenn is the real deal...lovable, friendly and a natural engaging singer. No histrionics or fireworks, just a beautiful sound that never grows old. Love on you Glenn.
They tried that and lost. And as sad as it is in one sense, the actual agreement was pretty straightforward and they all knew what they signed up for. And what they lost when they walked away.
I may have told this story before, but over 20 years ago I attended a LRB concert. Had a meet and greet, with an original vinyl album ready to be signed. Heading them before that on stage, I was sure there was at least a few original members on that stage, Some were pretty obvious they weren't .. but their sound was incredible. As I met them, I believe it was Wayne that said, "You don't want us to sign that" I said, Yes, of course. He said, you don't understand, non of us are on that record. His explanation was, the original LRB we're studio musicians and did not want to perform on the road. So needless to say, I didn't get my record album signed, but received an autograph 8x10 by Wayne and the boys. 😁 Great series of interviews with Glenn. thank you love your channel. ❤️🎙️
They weren't studio musos, probably all had been in other bands in the 60's and 70's. Twilights, Axiom, Masters Apprentices, Mississippi etc. I saw them a few times around when they first had a hit record in Australia. They played at suburban pubs in Melbourne.
Well done John. The music business is now and has always been a ‘shark tank’. After everything is said and done though the music survives on its own merits and the Little River Band in my humble opinion are Australia’s answer to the Beatles -melodic and lyrically satisfying. And let’s not forget John Farnham’s immense contribution to their legacy.
As an Aussie, LRB will always be Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles and Graham Goble to me. Sure, Shorrock left and eventually so did the others and they were fools for not attending to the legal side of things. Glenn you guys could get back and play. Just go under the platypus logo no name. This is what Prince did. You guys got to get together again and tour Australia.
I am a musician and guitar builder. I come from Glenn's neighbourhood and am pissed off that Steve Housden has stolen the name. How do American lawyers allow / achieve this? It's as bad as Springsteen's situation in the 70s Elliot Easton playing in Creedence Clearwater Revisited. LRB were really big here in 75/76 then disappeared. I know of a millionaire, living in Adelade's most prestigious Street ( nothing under several $m ) just for remastering the originals. I'll go collect his guitars off the wall one day. How dare they make money off of Beeb, Graham and Glenn!!! BTW Beeb is a nice guy also. Pissed off.
Maybe Glenn should tell us how much money he sold his rights to the name for (and in what year) and we can decide if we should feel sorry for him or not. Surely it was a large sum.

Set the story straight please. They didn't "lose it". They SOLD their US shares to Housden. When the 3 wanted to reform and found out Housden "owned" the name in the US, they didn't ask him, they filed suit against him and lost. The press asked Housden why he didn't just let them back in the band, you know what he said, "they never asked me....the first thing I heard was they were filing a lawsuit against me". They asked Housden if he would have let them back in, he said "probably, it would have great for all of us". So why blame Housden because he wanted to keep going and he spent his own money doing it? Housden simply had a better outlook on what LRB meant. As for the attorneys for Shorrock, Goble and Birtles, to allow them to sell their rights away with no recourse in the future was poor judgement. I know the three were burned out and wanted to move on, but don't blame Housden. I love Little River Band and the music they made in that era, but I am not blind to bad business decisions, and this was a whopper. They did it to themselves.

I guess, in the end, you need to evaluate the revenue stream and be content in the decisions made, and not be upset when those decisions are deemed to ber undesirable.
This is sort of pathetic, especially over the fact that these guys made tens of millions, and have millions of fans out there who recognize them under the name Little River Band. Another example of such bullshit was the inner fighting amongst the Eagles. Don Felder was going to explain it all in his book, which Frey and Henley sought court action to stop Felder’s book. Pitiful.
Glenn, please advise all young bands how to avoid this pitfall legally. And that Aussie guitar player who holds that name, has he no mercy? When will he just give you guys back your name? Have him put it in his will at least.
I feel sorry for Shorrock. Really awful how the last LRB former member holds the rights to the band's name, while he holds everybody else hostage. Shorrock should have the right to tour under his band's name. He is being deprived of income, which may be sorely needed at this point in his life. Shameful.
Nobody holds anyone to hostage; Shorrock (as did the other originals) SOLD his rights to the name, Stephen Housden was smart and didn't do that. Now he has a band that makes him, and the members, a living and Shorrock wants the lot fired!
I just recently saw Little River Ban, LRB, on stage a month ago at my RV campground. I said to my Friends that I was with, they don't even sound like them. So I was looking up the Names of the members playing and Not One Single member Performing was an Original Member. So I was wondering, if no one Is an Original Member, How can they Keep the Name Little River Band, So this video explained it all to me.
As an Australian these guys fucked up by leaving the band without putting much thought into it.They walked away from the brand and that was a big fuck up there's no other way to put it.
Hey Autrailia it may happen maybe... doesn't mean it is right!!!! The Little River Band was one of my favorite bands. If someone goes out and uses your name would b e terrible. I won't go see anyone that almost steals, you should be able to have your name and sing your beautiful songs.
That would work, The Original Australian Little River Band Revisited. Just like CCR did When John Fogerty left and gained the rights to Creedence Clearwater Revival they just renamed it to Creedence Clearwater Revisited and the replacement for John was an Amazing Singer, Showman and Guitar player, and in My Opinion they Sound Better without John Fogerty 👍
Is a good way to denounce what those so-called legalities entail, given the fact that you could lose it all just because of one hidden clause which will prevent you from using a band's name. I'm not happy at all, those other guys could have done better; I gather there are "rights" to the song author and that .. I don't think they could take away from the originals. men! o men!
Glenn seems a very humble yet still enthused bloke. I hate to sound negative but being in many bands I've found most members were mercenaries all about them not the 'team'. If you are fortunate to find a 'team mentality' in a band then run with it, then again this Plandemic thing seem to have ruined music ,hopefully not forever....
I don't understand the whole name thing. Surely all the band members were co owners of the trademark? How can this one Irish guy, not even an original member, get the name?
One by one band members left, and subsequently gave up their stake in the company that was Little River Band. In giving up their stake, they gave up their rights to the name; nothing uncommon and nothing illegal here, it's business. As these members left, they were replaced by new members who, technically, were (and still are) salaried employees while being completely bona-fide Little River Band members. The last stakeholder in the company was, and still is, Stephen Housden, an Australian who was a band member from 1982. Therefore Mr Housden owns the Little River Band name. Glenn Shorrock, basically, wants the job he quit decades ago back and is very bitter that he can't do that. Instead of accepting his responsibility in the whole matter, he plays the victim and constantly blames others. He signed a legal agreement, got paid for his stake in the company, and lived happily for decades until, one day, he wanted the name back. If Richard Branson were to sell his stake in Virgin Airlines, he couldn't then decide 25 years later that he wanted to set up an airline called Virgin Airlines and try to sue the owners of the Virgin Airlines that he no longer wanted to be a part of. The situation here is no different.
I heard on a radio show. That some of the band members went to use the restroom. They was only one member in the lawyers office. So he got the band name little river band just because he was the only member who stayed in the lawyers office. Strange but true
This is a shame. I saw the LRB in Sparks, Nevada last year. Didn't sound anything like the originals, didn't even sound like a good cover band! Then I did the research and found out why. The problem is Stephen Housden who lucked out getting the name he did nothing for. He could have shared it with the genius's who created the legacy, but thought putting together a shitty cover band was a better idea. Check out www.amazon.com/Birtles-Shorrock-Goble-Full-Circle/dp/B0009IW9ES. This is what LRB REALLY sounds like today (or as of 2005).
2013 my wife and I were in Arizona at a gas station in the middle of nowhere on a back road, there was a sign on a dusty paddock fence advertising LRB would be playing there next week. I felt so sad for the original members.
there's so much here which is heresay, not the legal facts. Go find out. It was a business. Someone in the band bought the business from the original guys - they didn't want it and sold their part in it. Don't go blaming the guy who was a member and bought it because he was loving playing and wanted to continue the band. Still a few of the original members were in it and continued with him for years. I was there, I was a witness in the court hearing over the name later on, it was a disgraceful display of sour grapes and childishness against the guy who owns the band name and who if they had simply asked to team up again would have happily done so. Instead they just sued straight up. They could have just asked him to rejoin and it all would have been good between them all. But instead a stupid wasteful approach was taken. And the manager of the original 3 guys was behind the unfriendly and aggressive court case, not the owner who is actually a really nice guy, and who did in fact write and play on many of the mid-late period hits and is a damn fine guitarist Chill out people, you mostly don't know what you're talking about.
Stephen Housden was in the Little River Band from 1981 - 2006; that isn't a 'little while' as you call it! Ex-members, including Mr Shorrock, gave up their rights to the name Little River Band when they left the band and sold their stake in the company. They didn't lose the name, they didn't want it anymore...until 30 years later. You can't sell a business then expect to start another one up with the same name doing the same thing decades down the line.
Yes, they didn’t do due diligence when the rights came up. NOT Steve Housden's fault. It fell into Steve's hands by default. There were also a couple of people in the band whose egos got in the way, and who were cordially disliked by quite a few in the business.
It’s not just a business though I mean , it is technically but wouldn’t you want to see the original members as spouses to a cover band Wich is all it is now no matter what you say it is legally Personality , soul , artistry , chemistry transcend legal B S in my mind Although it sounds like they made a dumb move Such a weird situation Bottom lime is that music and that band wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the actual real band starting it. Legality doesn’t change any of that It’s music not real estate
Well the band with Gobles, Birtles and Shorrock in it was only up until the late 90's. How many hit songs did they have after those 3 left. Because that is the answer as to who should own the rights right there. And they were in it from its inception in 1975.
In every interview I see with this bloke, he comes across as a very bitter old man. He left the Little River Band TWICE...and signed away his rights to use the name forever. I don't know any job in the World where you can quit your position and then just walk back into it 25 years later firing anyone who gets in the way. This is what Shorrock wants to do. Conveniently, he 'omits' certain aspects of the band's history in these interviews making himself sound ever the victim. Stephen Housden and Wayne Nelson joined the band in 1982 & 1980 respectively and both spent way more time in the band than this bloke. I wish he'd stop bleeting and accept that he did this to himself instead of blaming everyone else.
yeah but who wrote all the songs that became famous and made the the name valuable? Not Housden. I'd be embarrassed to use the name now with the current lineup. He could have sold the name back to them. Anyway nobody goes to see the curret LRB except a few people who know nothing of the band history.
Steve Housden bought the name (and was an LRB member for 25 years - that's longer than Shorrock) and has every right to it, legally and ethically. The other band members let the name slide through their fingers because they were too preoccupied (and dumb) to read the fine print.
Legally maybe. Do you know the story? About the new corp, We Two LTD, formed in 1987? About the document that transferred ownership of the rights to the band name, from Little River Band LTD, to the new corp? When a trusted Mgr says, sign here, you do it. As you said, they unknowingly "let it slide through their fingers". Goble and the original creative forces in the band, were busy doing what they do best. Preoccupied, as you put it, writing and creating original, great music as they,d done since the mid 70's. Housden, ethically? And Nelsons current band? Definately not ethical? They've created nothing!
@@sweetrocks85 yep, the original guys were mislead and got screwed. Housden legally has the name, but he should be sympathetic to the original guy's situation for at least two reasons: 1. They made the band famous and wrote the songs that the current cover band plays and make money from at concerts now. 2. The original guys got screwed.

Glenn, please advise all young bands how to avoid this pitfall legally. And that Aussie guitar player who holds that name, has he no mercy? When will he just give you guys back your name? Have him put it in his will at least.
That guitar player is actually a Pom.
Now he has a band that makes him, and the members, a living and Shorrock wants the lot fired!
isnt that two different names little river band and lrb
How about “The Band from Dangerously Close to Little River”🤷🏼♂️
lil , Big River Band L.B.R.B.
Is there anywhere I can listen to the full interview from start to finish?
Big Lake Group.
Yea. Glenn had a big ego. They replaced him
Hey Autrailia it may happen maybe... doesn't mean it is right!!!! The Little River Band was one of my favorite bands. If someone goes out and uses your name would b e terrible. I won't go see anyone that almost steals, you should be able to have your name and sing your beautiful songs.
It was their own fault that they gave up the name! Crying about it now doesn’t change the facts.
Kinda weird, but he seems OK with it. Good guy. P. S. Cool that more of your close it out song played. It's nice.
They can perform under another name adding (former original members of ...) can't they?
They tried to, without the new it's not going to work unfortunately.
Yes, they could legally do that
They can tour as LRB. Or Australia little river band
I don't think they could take away from the originals. men! o men!
I guessing Maribyrnong River Band is taken...
Flooded right at the moment, more like Maribyrnong lake.
What does Derek think about all this ?
More importantly, what does OPRAH think of this hot mess!?!
Some band actually bills themselves as Rare Earth but they aren't Rare Earth without Peter Rivera. Just saying.
So dose that mean he owns the name of the town. its the name of a town out side of Geelong how can he own the name
*does
Just use lil river band?
glenn great singer. might sound crazy but I'm curious about wayne nelson and Stephen housden thoughts on on the subject.
He forgets to mention Steve Housden is also a killer guitarist...
He is a good guitarist. But, on stage, he over plays his part. It is a blowing session. For the bedroom at home to practice. Over ripe at a show.
@@thomaspick4123 …..Wow! You sound like you have an axe to grind (literally). Show some respect and give the guy his dues. He IS a killer guitarist.
@Mountain Chief ……..He immigrated to Australia as a child, and grew up there, so what difference does that make?
they lost nothing, they quit and sold out--------------their own fault
IN 1976 HELP IS ON THE WAY & DAYS ON THE ROAD WERE BOTH BIG HITS THEN
Just as war and molly hachett there are no original members or only one original member
I heard on a radio show. That some of the band members went to use the restroom. They was only one member in the lawyers office. So he got the band name little river band just because he was the only member who stayed in the lawyers office. Strange but true
The Band of River Little?
Can't you just be LRB?
there's so much here which is heresay, not the legal facts.
100% correct, this Shoorock bloke always comes across as very bitter & twisted in almost every interview he does.
Thanks for explaining. I wish I knew all that earlier
Good to have the story straight
@@welshieallovertheplace This Shorrock Bloke? You mean the lead singer of the band...
They shouldbehappy that Wayne kept their songs alive for many years. Here's always delivered a good product and never disparaged the original members.
Love LRB you guys sold your name
You need to watch the interview with Graeham Goble for the full account about what really happened about losing the name before you go spouting off.
It’s not just a business though
I mean , it is technically but wouldn’t you want to see the original members as spouses to a cover band Wich is all it is now no matter what you say it is legally
Personality , soul , artistry , chemistry transcend legal B S in my mind
Although it sounds like they made a dumb move
Such a weird situation
Bottom lime is that music and that band wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the actual real band starting it. Legality doesn’t change any of that
It’s music not real estate
If it's just a job like every other job where are your international hits??? PLUS they employed a manager to deal with legal issues.
yeah but who wrote all the songs that became famous and made the the name valuable? Not Housden. I'd be embarrassed to use the name now with the current lineup. He could have sold the name back to them. Anyway nobody goes to see the curret LRB except a few people who know nothing of the band history.
Yea ego is a bitch
2. The original guys got screwed.
to call these guys dumb is just plain cruel!
He wasn't there at the start, didn't write any of their hits. Good guitarist but shit person.
STUPID
ITCH!!!!! HE WASN'T ORIGINAL!!!!
Yer what a joke.. Cover band .. not even close.. Thieves
