Budgeting, exercise, expertise in your chosen field. Start as soon as you can, if you can get to this point in your 20's your 30's will be amazing. You will have great financial freedom, relationship freedom and a sense of peace not easy to obtain for men in the current western culture. Become self sufficient. You can do this, many of us have. I give Dave credit for holding out as long as he did before flipping out...this caller is absolutely infuriating to listen to. I paused it 4 min into the call, and I can see he is a scatter brain. Dancing around questions, instead of answering with 2-3 words which is all it takes. I am surprised he has such a good job, especially in consulting because he isnt very articulate with his words. Phew, this is exhausting to listen to.

THIS is the reason our government can't balance the budget and is in so much debt. My personal feeling is that every single politician that has any input in spending taxpayer money should have to make their FICO score and their income to debt ratio public. If you can't be responsible with your own money, you aren't going to be responsible with other people's money.

Discipline is a must. Live like you still make $90,000!!! After a $1000 savings, pay only housing, utilities, eat food prepared at home (no eating out) so pack lunches. There are plenty of TH-cam videos with tips on minimizing meal expenses. Use public transportation. Put cash in envelopes for each month's budget category and that is all you have until next month's budget. All remaining surplus goes only to paying debts. Act like an adult. Stop making excuses. Stop letting your girlfriend live off your income. Make your dates cooking together to meal prep for each week. No snacks, drink water. Budget only for necessities (needs only, no wants). Only way to get ahead quickly. You've dug yourself a big enough hole, time to work your way out of it with intense commitment.

So to give him the benefit of the doubt, traveling makes it harder to budget and spend wisely. He might be doing something like five days in NY and then 5 in Orlando, back and forth but with no consistency. That makes it very hard to grocery shop. So then he has to eat out a couple times a day. And he is renting snd furnishing two apartments. Plus flights, transportation, etc. he would likely be able to save and invest more making $90k staying in Orlando only. Just saving on Ny rent and taxes. He might be saying his gross business income and he is a contractor so can deduct business expenses like flights, hotels, rent in NY, restaurants, Uber, etc and after all deductions his taxable income might be $110k a year then after the IRS and NY and NYC he had more like $7k a month, not $14k. Then an expensive car lease, eating out all the time, gym membership, nice clothes, expensive haircuts, etc eat up the rest but he “needs” to look New York professional.
