+Joanna Sternberg she's just such a class act and amazing woman! true inspiration. her describing her attire is preppy and ironic for playing punk music is just icing on the cake for me as I'm a preppy dressing 'alternative' guy haha
That is so funny when she spoke about her fear that new fans wouldn't know she was a serious musician.. I was introduched to her through Portlandia and when I first heard about Sleater Kinney I thought it was a parody band stemming from her work with the show. Obviously so wrong... All of you have to do is listen to her for ten seconds to know the girls got serious game.
I know this comment is 6 years old but I too was introduced to Sleater Kinney through Portlandia. I went to their concert in Nov 2019 and it was INSANE!!! They are so good!
I really like Carrie's answer here: th-cam.com/video/-Tx3H5-PEQI/w-d-xo.htmlm57s The way she speaks is eloquent and poetic. I wonder if that comes from her experience writing music or if she is just really well-read or what... Whatever it is, she has it, and I am in awe :) She is so funny on Portlandia and she has great fashion sense :D
I think... having tried to best characterize the satire of Portland and the "rules", that ultimately they have been satirizing activists... and the politically correct flotsam and jetsam that results.
i get what you're saying. there is a huge difference between people who lean inward to look for information and people who desperately grapple thought patterns floating through the air. if you've ever been to a protest march you'll find that no matter how non-conformist the music you're imagining, it wouldn't be right for the march based on solidarity through non-conformism. to show that the solidarity was not coming from the past. but to those who seek information inward 99% of the time just means they know everything and can still grasp that ability to convey and that's what a protest march is.
People who imagine themselves funny and clever are just annoying. Nice to be able to afford to shop at New Seasons....we can't anymore now that rents have doubled in Portland!
Wow. She makes me want to go visit Portland.
OMG how is she cute and funny and smart and brilliant and a rock star ALL AT THE SAME TIMEEEE?!?!

I didn't even know that she was in a band until lately.

Several points for "flummoxed" here.

Miss Jian's talent. Such a cultural tragedy.
Portland is where you go at 23 to retire.

Well, he is no longer with the CBC, thankfully. I feel badly that Carrie had to be interviewed by this creepy man!
