- 1972 Preseason matchup between the Philadelphia Blazers and Quebec Nordiques
Notable players were J.C. Tremblay (# 3 Nordiques), Andre Lacroix (# 7 Blazers), and Derek Sanderson (# 16 Blazers) - Maurice Richard was behind the bench as head coach of the Nordiques
Fascinating bit of footage showing Maurice Richard during his brief time as coach of the Nordiques. Also Derek Sanderson #16 in the line up for the Blazers.
Rocket was coach for what, a week?
@@guym2222Yeah I think the Rocket only lasted two games as head coach. Interesting that many guys who were legends as players couldn’t take the pressure of being head coach.
Richard probably coached more pre-season games for the Nords than regular season games
@@guym2222 No! One game!
Sanderson, later, was with the Canucks once again in Vancouver. My bad…
A beaut of a uniform matchup
Wow! Super rare, particularly considering that Derek only played 8 games w the Blazers. TY!
Amazing that Sanderson for a little while ended up sleeping on a Park Bench in New York's Central Park
Exhibition Game played @ Le Colissee on 10/3/72. Won by Quebec 6-4. Maurice Richard would only coach 2 regular season games during this inaugural WHA season. Extremely rare video of Derek Sanderson who came with great fanfare to the WHA but only played 8 regular season games before getting injured & having his million dollar contract bought out. The Blazers would only survive one season in the WHA. Founded as the Miami Screaming Eagles, they never played a game in Miami & instead moved to Philadelphia for the inaugural 1972-73 season. They then moved to Vancouver & became the Vancouver Blazers for 2 years before moving to Calgary & reincarnating as the Calgary Cowboys prior to the 1975-76 season.
Thanks for the great info.. Huge WHA fan here. That must be Marcel Paille in net for the Blazers
Wow thanks for the upload. I remember listening to all of the Blazer games on the radio. None of their games were televised.
Yeah they were on channel 12 of all places.
Wild , good stuff
Rare non-Parent start. I believe Yves Archambault is in goal judging by the #30. Marcel Paille was #1 and Parent #00 with the flaming mask. And it's wild watching a game with almost no one wearing helmets. Wish it was Parent playing. He had the coolest mask in history.
Bernie was hurt
@@resurrectionsunday looking at the Nordiques goal, that might be Bernie. Looks like his Fibrosport style mask just unpainted. Archambault wore a Higgins mask as did Paille.
Looks like JC Tremblay is playing as a forward. 8O
Great footage!
Jean-Claude Tremblay, le plus oublié des grands défenseurs québécois?
Qui mérite d'entrer au Temple de la renommée.
