Thanks for this. I'm 66 and grew up on Bluebell at Salerno Drive. My mother is 96 now and has similar recollections to participants. We now live in Norfolk.
This puts together all the stories my mother told me about Huyton during the war. She worked in the fish and chip shop not far from the camps mentioned. Thanks for showing.
This is all wrong the roads with Generals names are on the Bluebell estate this was a Army camp closed in about 1958 then the houses were built, the Brookehouse Estate was on the other side of Bluebell lane the Photo showing barbed wire camp was the hillside estate on thge other side of the main Prescot road this was built just prior to the war and became a POW camp for Italian Prisoners the Photo showing German Prisoners staning by the Hutswas on the edge of the Brookehouse estate on Huyton lane and i think Lonview lane not avtually on the King George the Fifth playing fields but on a piece of land alongside, there used to be 2 large bombs standing at the entrance on longview lane i understand they were V2s just a little more information the German Prisoners had some good footballers amongst them, the German Prisoners always wore a black battledress jacket with a red triangle on the bask and the sleeve after the end of the war they used to stroll around in the evenings to longview shops chip shop.
