This game actually broke the record for attendance at any Pittsburgh sporting event with 70,622 attendees. I've never seen such a great crowd at a Pitt game in my life. A really special experience!

Like typical ESPN, they got that completely backwards, and never bothered to correct their statement. That was a more lopsided pro-Pittsburgh showing than Steelers fans at a Redskins game...sorry, Commanders.

Pittsburgh is a pro sports town. Pitt usually draws 30,000 fans to their games. The only reason this game sold out was because of 40,000 West Virginia fans.

11 years of defensive football…. Not a Pitt fan but I’m happy their fans finally got to see them play offense… Pretty amazing that last years QB made it to the NFL without ever taking a snap!!!
If this is a sign of things to come, this revival of the Backyard Brawl is going to be epic and there is still three more meetings. I am happy Pitt came out on top, but wow what a game and even after 11 years, the emotion was still there.
as a WVU fan it was tough to lose this one but an electric game nonetheless. This is college football at its best...not that WVU vs Kansas State or Rutgers vs UCLA conference realignment BS. Classic rivalries like this need to happen every year..shame on whoever made the decision to not have these teams play each other for the last 11 years

Imagine how JT Daniels feels...Knowing you can sling it but your coaching staff calls a very conservative gameplan for most of the game and when you do sling it you drop dimes only to have your receivers let you down.

Great seeing this game played with passion. That’s way it was growing up with both teams recording from hardcore industrial northeastern cities. Of course I realize some of those places like my native North Jersey no longer have the same talent pipeline. But it’s great to see these proud programs play games with top 20 rankings on the line again…

Heck of a game. Hard hittin'. It was USC versus USC quarterbacks. Funny how that worked out. Pitt made the plays in the 4th. I give the Panthers credit for playing very hard, and not giving up in the face of real adversity.
Daniels was average at best.
Honestly JT Daniels was collected and did everything right, can't blame him for his receivers inability to catch the ball. Great game!

It's crazy because the guy who had the pick 6 "MJ Devonshire" is a Pittsburgh High school legend from Aliquippa where Darrelle Revis, Ty Law, Mike Ditka, Jonathan Baldwin are from. He chose Kentucky on National signing day then came back home for his sophomore year! People in Pittsburgh always say if Pitt could keep the kids from this area home they would be a national power..Aaron Donald, Terrelle Pryor, Miles Sanders, Tyler Boyd, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Jason Taylor are all Pittsburgh guys.. they have to find a way to keep the 4 and 5 star kids.. great win for Pitt!

Not a fan of either of these teams but hands down one of the most exciting week one games I have ever watched. I was at work at a restaurant last night and they had every tv on this game. It was hard for me to focus on my job at times because of this game lol.

Overall it's just more of an experience at the college level. Rivalries really get the blood boiling, and not just because divisional alignment says to lol
I always say the same thing. Nfl get a pay check no matter what, sometimes they are drafted by a city they don't want to be in, they don't dive or hussle. College is where it's at, they are trying to make a name for themselves and have pride in where they are
Mainly because the NFL is more of a large corporate business.

I agree they should have went for it but if he had more time to pass & less drops they win by at least 2tds. They Would have never been in that situation anyway

Was looking if anyone commented on espn side of things because they didn’t show the touchdowns either next play the other team alr had the ball and 7 on the board. Point of highlights is to show how points were made and what not smh espn

That crowd noise was deafening. In deep south Texas their is a high school version of the backyard brawl...Mercedes Tigers v Edcouch-Elsa Yellow Jackets. It was nicknamed the Big Game for many years cuz whomever won that game would go on to become district champions and of course bragging rights. Now they call it the Backyard Throw Down. I know its cliche but these teams REALLY don't like each other. They are separated by like a dozen or so miles and are in the same district. Though football is king in Texas, these 2 teams have epic battles in the other sports as well. The fans REALLY get into it. Seeing the highlights of this game totally reminds me of The Rio Grande Valley's own version of the Backyard Brawl!

It does still exist it’s just made up of fcs schools like Villanova, Providence, Creighton, ect. It’s a fire basketball conference tho.

Wow. This cast my memory back to 1970 when I lived in Tower B and watched Pitt upset UCLA at the old Pitt Stadium up on The Hill. This was before the Steel Curtain era, well before Dorsett and Marino. I also remember standing way up in the REAL cheap section above the stadium where you could see about half the field and hear the announcers. This was so long ago that I actually saw the pre-Bradshaw Steelers lose against Fran Tarkenton and Bart Starr! (Yes, I also saw Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell-“Chicken on the Hill!”-at Forbes Field from the third floor windows of the Hillman Library.)

West Virginia looked like the better team tbh. Mistakes killed them but they dominated this game upfront on both sides

WVU defense isn't even close to being as good as Pitts, slovis looks better than Daniels and Pittsburgh dominated in the second half which is when it matters most

@@tylerminich9998 I urge you to watch the game again. I’m not a fan of either team but the size difference between the team on both the outside and inside is glaringly obvious. Pitt looks overrated if WV can get 6 sacks on them they’re in trouble. They even gave up sacks on 3 man rushes
@@tylerminich9998 and yes WV did dominate upfront for most of the game. They had 190 yards rushing on 6 yards a carry while Pitt only had 79 yards for 1.9 yards a carry. JT lost them that game he made some poor decisions. If WV stuck with the run more than the pass they would’ve won that game. Idk why you stop running it when you’re avg 6 yards a pop. But taking nothing away from Slovis even tho he was running from the rush for most of the game he dropped some dimes. Pitt needs to fix that offensive line if they’re going to stay ranked or it’ll be a long season for them
Brown had an excellent run at Troy. He is on very thin ice right now. There's a tough sked to deal with later this season.
