  • "Lens choice is the memory you would have, if you were there." by James Cameron in his master class, best articulates the "feeling" or "instinct" when I make my films. I hope to share this with you plus my thoughts on this topic, as this helps me to improve my craft significantly by understanding the drive behind creative decisions.

    As someone who comes from the film side and still figuring out 3D, I think you're instinct are damn good to me. If you watch a lot of films you already intrinsically have a good sense of what works, and I assume you've watched a TON of films. But, like most cinematography, all these choices depend on what you're trying to do. Do you want to guide an audience into your viewpoint with carefully chosen shots, or do you want to allow them to put ideas together by backing out the camera for wider shots most of the time? (The film Parasite does a lovely job with this by the way). There's a lot of good theories out there. Anyway, I love your stuff.

    First off, your work is amazing. I subscribed to your channel after watching a couple of your short films. I don't use unreal engine but the information you give out goes beyond unreal engine and every now and then, I come to watch a few videos. I just came from "why CG cameras look fake" & now I'm watching this one. I have come to realize that over the years and also, right now, a lot of the things you mentioned, I already do them. They feel almost instinctive and that's partly because of the amount of movies, short films etc. Honestly, I consume a lot of media. Anyways, yes, some of these things are second nature at this point, I just never know the terminologies for them. And I don't pass up on videos like these because you can always pick up something new. What I am currently exploring are camera angles as each one has a story to tell so I'm trying to incorporate that into my short films. I'm currently working on one & I'm excited about that. Anyways, keep doing your thing. You're killing it 👏🏾

      i never liked the robot kissing thing...i always felt like it was pointless and a waste of time to tell a good story. I didnt feel anything when i watched it but wow what a waste of work on a pointless story.

    They also call it the angel perspective, where would you position yourself to witness a moment if you were an angel and you could be anywhere!
    But I love this idea better, but maybe a mix of both... Where would you see (or remember) a moment from if you could position yourself anywhere for the maximum emotional impact and focus...something like that

    So question: Do you think DCC's like Blender can also replicate lenses like you are portraying here? I know you work mainly in UE5 but I've ran into so many complications and I see Blender has good outputs in realism or movie-ism as well. Your thoughts?

    • @Unrealhan
      @Unrealhan  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh yeah totally. All 3D software should be able to, in fact, blender is much stronger in producing good anamorphic bokeh and lens artifacts. I think movie-ism feeling comes from a lot more aspects, I'm working a video talking a bit more about it. stay tuned.
